The study explored the effects of intensive urbanization on urban plant diversity and landscape pattern. An inventory of plant species in managed green spaces in the nine urban districts of Guangzhou (south China) with varied development history was conducted. The relationships among species richness, diversity and urban development were analysed by community ecology attributes, cluster analysis, growth-form differentiation and district fidelity indices, and statistical tests. The 1055 vascular species were dominated by a small number of common evergreen species, accompanied by many rare species. By species richness, tree was the dominant growth form, followed by herb and shrub. Species richness and diversity were slightly below urban-fringe secondary forests. Old and young districts offered disparate conditions for species enrichment to establish urban landscape patterns with divergent floristic and growth-form assemblages. Urban species profile and vegetation landscapes were mainly influenced by planning and management of the urban landscape and changing landscape fashion.  相似文献

Urban vegetation increasingly contributes to nature conservation and ecosystem services, but lacking understanding of site variations has restricted such uses. This study analyzed the spatial pattern and differentiation of tree communities in three major green landscape types (urban parks, riverside parks and street verges) in Taipei city. In each landscape type, 10 representative tree communities were studied. Statistical tests for ecological communities were employed: Jaccard and Q species similarity indices, two-way indicator species analysis (TWINSPAN), and new species fidelity, landscape fidelity and composite Q indices. Significant recent increase in Taipei's green spaces was traced. The study area contained 164 tree species, but few were shared by the three landscape types and none by 30 communities. Native evergreen broadleaf species with large final dimensions were dominant. Urban parks registered the highest species richness, landscape fidelity, rare species and urban endemics. Such exclusive species constitution deviated notably from riverside parks and street verges, with relatively simple and converging intra-site species ingredients. Pronounced species differentiation between urban parks reflected diversified site topography, natural woodland inheritance, woodland creation, and past landscape fashion. TWINSPAN classified the communities into nine groups each with signature characteristics. Inherent site variations offered main determinants of tree heterogeneity, superimposed by human modification to satisfy pre-determined site functions. A hybrid urban park with high species diversity and nature contents is advocated by amalgamating conventional but polarized designs of country and urban parks. The findings could inform management of urban forest, urban nature conservation, and ecological services of urban green spaces.  相似文献

This article reviews the recent research of molecular memory based on self-assembled nanowire-molecular wire heterostructures. These devices exploit a novel concept of using redox-active molecules as charge storage flash nodes for nanowire transistors, and thus boast many advantages such as room-temperature processing and nanoscale device area. Various key elements of this technology will be reviewed, including the synthesis of the nanowires and molecular wires, and fabrication and characterization of the molecular memory devices. In particular, multilevel memory has been demonstrated using In2O3 nanowires with self-assembled Fe-bis(terpyridine) molecules, which serve to multiple the charge storage density without increasing the device size. Furthermore, in-depth studies on memory devices made with different molecules or with different functionalization techniques will be reviewed and analyzed. These devices represent a conceptual breakthrough in molecular memory and may work as building blocks for future beyond-CMOS nanoelectronic circuits.  相似文献

We present a study of the performance of Birks' Law in liquid argon ionization chamber simulations as applied to highly ionizing particles, such as particles with multiple electric charges or with magnetic charge. We used Birks' Law to model recombination effects in a Geant4 simulation of heavy ions in a liquid argon calorimeter. We then compared the simulation to published heavy-ion data to extract a highly ionizing particle correction to Birks' Law.  相似文献

Polylactic acid (PLA) and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) are two kinds of biocompatible and biodegradable polymers that can be used in biomedical applications. PLA has rigid mechanical properties while TPU possesses flexible mechanical properties. Blended TPU/PLA tissue engineering scaffolds at different ratios for tunable properties were fabricated via twin screw extrusion and microcellular injection molding techniques for the first time. Multiple test methods were used to characterize these materials. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) confirmed the existence of the two components in the blends; differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) confirmed the immiscibility between the TPU and PLA. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images verified that, at the composition ratios studied, PLA was dispersed as spheres or islands inside the TPU matrix and that this phase morphology further influenced the scaffold's microstructure and surface roughness. The blends exhibited a large range of mechanical properties that covered several human tissue requirements. 3T3 fibroblast cell culture showed that the scaffolds supported cell proliferation and migration properly. Most importantly, this study demonstrated the feasibility of mass producing biocompatible PLA/TPU scaffolds with tunable microstructures, surface roughnesses, and mechanical properties that have the potential to be used as artificial scaffolds in multiple tissue engineering applications.  相似文献

Traditionally, the process capability index is developed assuming that the process output data are independent and follow normal distribution. However, in most environmental cases, the process data have more than one quality characteristic and exhibit property of autocorrelation. We propose two novel multivariate process capability indices for autocorrelated data, NMACp and NMACpm, for the nominal‐the‐best case. For the smaller‐the‐better case, Γ(0) is used to modify the ND index and a new multivariate autocorrelated process capability index NMACpu is derived. Furthermore, a simulation study is conducted to compare the performance of the various multivariate autocorrelated indices. The simulation results show that the actual nonconforming rates can be correctly reflected by our proposed indices, which outperform the previous Cpm, MCp, MCpm, NMCp, NMCpm, and ND indices under different time series models. Thus, our proposed capability indices can be used in evaluating the performance of multivariate autocorrelated processes. Finally, a realistic example in hydrological application further demonstrates the usefulness of our proposed capability indices. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Photography reached the Ottoman Empire soon after its invention, at about the time that painting began to be practised there as part of a broader project of assimilating aspects of European culture. This was in marked contrast to the situation in Europe, where photography had to contend with visual traditions from which it adopted pictorial conventions and subject matter. Instead of supplanting existing traditions of realistic visual representation, photography in the Ottoman Empire served as a discrete source of inspiration. This paper examines how this inversion of European experience within the Ottoman Empire provides an alternative to dominant narratives of photographic history. If one of the salient characteristics of modernist movements in Western art is their ability to break with tradition, then the adoption of Western practices of representation by artists within the Ottoman Empire may be viewed as a radical modernist success.  相似文献

Road traffic collisions while at work are the single largest cause of occupational fatality in the United Kingdom. Work-related road collisions do not comprise a homogenous group, but take many forms, encompassing the use of varying types of vehicle used for diverse purposes. A sample of over 2000 collision cases was considered, over 1000 in detail, from UK police forces, involving drivers/workers of all ages, and covering the years 1996-2004 inclusive. There were three key findings. (1) There were six main classes of collision-involved vehicles. These were company cars, vans/pickups, large goods vehicles (LGVs), buses (PCVs or ‘passenger carrying vehicles’), taxis/minicabs, and emergency vehicles (police, fire/rescue and ambulance). (2) The drivers of company cars, vans/pickups, and large goods vehicles (LGVs) all appeared to have a high ‘blameworthiness ratio’ in their collision involvement. Company car drivers showed excess speed as a causal factor, whereas van drivers showed more observational failures, and LGV drivers showed more fatigue and vehicle defects as factors. (3) The drivers of buses (PCVs), taxis/minicabs, and emergency vehicles showed a low ‘blameworthiness ratio’ in their collision involvement. Their problems seemed to be primarily with the other drivers/parties with whom they share the road. While they made a variety of mistakes or errors, they were more likely to become the victim of another party's mistake or error.  相似文献
