Abstract

In the present study, the ability of an artificial neural network model to evaluate the thermal performance of a cooling tower, which used in the heating, ventilating, and air conditioning industries to reject heat to the atmosphere, is examined. The network is trained with the following experimental values: the ratio of the water mass flow rate to air mass flow rate, the inlet water temperature, and the outlet water temperature, and the inlet air wet-bulb temperature are selected as input variables, while the output is the coefficient of performance. It is concluded that a well-trained neural network provides fast, accurate, and consistent results, making it an easy-to use tool for preliminary engineering studies.  相似文献

Three-dimensional (3-D) effects in short deep beams without stirrups that failed in shear were investigated experimentally and analytically. Two deep beams with a shear span to depth ratio (a/d) of 0.5 and with different beam widths were tested. The effect of beam width on load-carrying capacity, failure mode, crack pattern and 3-D behavior was investigated, and shape effect due to beam width was clarified. In addition, the beams were analyzed by the 3-D rigid-body-spring model (RBSM). RBSM is a discrete form of modeling that presents realistic behavior from cracking to failure, and 3-D RBSM is applicable to simulate 3-D behavior as well as the confinement effect of concrete. Analytical results in terms of load–displacement curves and crack pattern are compared with the experimental results. Three-dimensional deformations, strut widths and cross-sectional stress distribution are investigated analytically and compared with the experimental results to determine 3-D behavior in detail. The 3-D effects in short deep beams are clarified.  相似文献

The aim of this review is to summarize the most relevant contributions in the development of electrochemical sensors based on carbon materials in the recent years. There have been increasing numbers of reports on the first application of carbon derived materials for the preparation of an electrochemical sensor. These include carbon nanotubes, diamond like carbon films and diamond film-based sensors demonstrating that the particular structure of these carbon material and their unique properties make them a very attractive material for the design of electrochemical biosensors and gas sensors.Carbon nanotubes (CNT) have become one of the most extensively studied nanostructures because of their unique properties. CNT can enhance the electrochemical reactivity of important biomolecules and can promote the electron-transfer reactions of proteins (including those where the redox center is embedded deep within the glycoprotein shell). In addition to enhanced electrochemical reactivity, CNT-modified electrodes have been shown useful to be coated with biomolecules (e.g., nucleic acids) and to alleviate surface fouling effects (such as those involved in the NADH oxidation process). The remarkable sensitivity of CNT conductivity with the surface adsorbates permits the use of CNT as highly sensitive nanoscale sensors. These properties make CNT extremely attractive for a wide range of electrochemical sensors ranging from amperometric enzyme electrodes to DNA hybridization biosensors. Recently, a CNT sensor based fast diagnosis method using non-treated blood assay has been developed for specific detection of hepatitis B virus (HBV) (human liver diseases, such as chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma caused by hepatitis B virus). The linear detection limits for HBV plasma is in the range 0.5–3.0 µL? 1 and for anti-HBVs 0.035–0.242 mg/mL in a 0.1 M NH4H2PO4 electrolyte solution. These detection limits enables early detection of HBV infection in suspected serum samples. Therefore, non-treated blood serum can be directly applied for real-time sensitive detection in medical diagnosis as well as in direct in vivo monitoring.Synthetic diamond has been recognized as an extremely attractive material for both (bio-) chemical sensing and as an interface to biological systems. Synthetic diamond have outstanding electrochemical properties, superior chemical inertness and biocompatibility. Recent advances in the synthesis of highly conducting nanocrystalline-diamond thin films and nano wires have lead to an entirely new class of electrochemical biosensors and bio-inorganic interfaces. In addition, it also combines with development of new chemical approaches to covalently attach biomolecules on the diamond surface also contributed to the advancement of diamond-based biosensors. The feasibility of a capacitive field-effect EDIS (electrolyte-diamond-insulator-semiconductor) platform for multi-parameter sensing is demonstrated with an O-terminated nanocrystalline-diamond (NCD) film as transducer material for the detection of pH and penicillin concentration. This has also been extended for the label-free electrical monitoring of adsorption and binding of charged macromolecules. One more recent study demonstrated a novel bio-sensing platform, which is introduced by combination of a) geometrically controlled DNA bonding using vertically aligned diamond nano-wires and b) the superior electrochemical sensing properties of diamond as transducer material. Diamond nano-wires can be a new approach towards next generation electrochemical gene sensor platforms.This review highlights the advantages of these carbon materials to promote different electron transfer reactions specially those related to biomolecules. Different strategies have been applied for constructing carbon material-based electrochemical sensors, their analytical performance and future prospects are discussed.  相似文献

We investigated the darkening of nine high OH fibre types irradiated with 500 MeV electrons from the Linac Injector of LEP (LIL) at CERN. The transmission of Xe light was measured in situ in the 350–800 nm range. The induced attenuation at 450 nm is typically 1.52±0.15 dB/m for a 100 Mrad absorbed dose. Two-parameter fits for darkening and recovery are presented. After irradiation the tensile strength remains essentially unchanged. For Polymicro quartz core fibres the tensile strength is typically 4.6±0.4 GPa.  相似文献

The effect of porosity on the mechanical and fracture behaviour in Al–Si matrix alloy and composites reinforced with SiC particles of 10 and 20 vol.% in the as-cast state and after extrusion process has been studied. Matrix alloy and composites were fabricated by compocasting and extrusion. Samples were characterized by optical microscopy, image analyzer, scanning electron microscopy and tensile tests. The results demonstrate that hot extrusion considerably reduces the porosity, while size and distribution of the reinforcement particles are also affected. In the point of fracture behaviour, the existence of large porosity is more effective.  相似文献

Post-treatment was carried out to eliminate the colour and COD of treated combined industrial effluent. Ozonation at a dose of 300 mg/h for 10 min resulted in 100% colour and 96% COD removal at pH 8 and temperature 25 °C. The application of UV/H2O2 resulted in 91% colour and 82% COD removal. 79% colour and 60% COD removal was obtained with the Fenton process after 60-min treatment in the presence of 170 mg/l H2O2, while the photo-Fenton process showed an almost complete elimination of both parameters. Electrical energy consumption showed that the photo-Fenton resulted in the highest removal efficiency with 95% removal in terms of colour and COD abatement rates. The electrical energy requirements of the tested processes followed the increasing order UV/Fe/H2O2 < O3 < UV/H2O2 < UV.  相似文献

A beam polarimeter using CH2 and carbon targets has been used to measure proton and neutron beam polarization in the energy range 0.4–2.8 GeV in one of the beam lines at the SATURNE II accelerator. The analyzing power for np-scattering is calibrated against the known analyzing power for pp-scattering by using the polarized deuteron beam to measure simultaneously the asymmetries for scattering of quasifree protons and neutrons in the deuterons. A low level of systematic errors is achieved by pulse to pulse polarization reversal at the ion source of the accelerator, and by measuring left and right scattering simultaneously. The detailed operation procedure and the beam polarizations measured during all experiments from 1981 to 1984 are presented.  相似文献

A unified dynamic theory for polarizable and magnetizable magneto-electro thermoviscoelastic. electrically and thermally conducting anisotropic solids possessing magnetic symmetry is developed for time-dependent electromagnetic fields. Considering the Chu formulation of the Maxwell equations, the balance equations of nonrelativistic continuum mechanics and the boundary conditions together with the constitutive equations for anisotropic materials are given. It is shown that the entropy, polarization. magnetization and the nondissipative part of stress are derivable from a potential while the dissipative part of stress, electric current and heat flux vectors satisfy a residual inequality. The theory developed for a general anisotropy and interaction is applied to special cases.  相似文献

The waste pomace of olive oil factory (WPOOF) was tested for its ability to remove chromium(VI) from aqueous solution by batch and column experiments. Various thermodynamic parameters, such as DeltaG degrees , DeltaH degrees and DeltaS degrees have been calculated. The thermodynamics of chromium(VI) ion onto WPOOF system indicates spontaneous and endothermic nature of the process. The ability of WPOOF to adsorb chromium(VI) in a fixed bed column was investigated, as well. The effect of operating parameters such as flow rate and inlet metal ion concentration on the sorption characteristics of WPOOF was investigated. The longest breakthrough time and maximum of Cr(VI) adsorption is obtained at pH 2.0. The total adsorbed quantities, equilibrium uptakes and total removal percents of chromium(VI) related to the effluent volumes were determined by evaluating the breakthrough curves obtained at different flow rates and different inlet chromium(VI) concentrations for adsorbent. The data confirmed that the total amount of sorbed chromium(VI) and equilibrium chromium(VI) uptake decreased with increasing flow rate and increased with increasing inlet chromium(VI) concentration. The Adams-Bohart model were used to analyze the experimental data and the model parameters were evaluated.  相似文献

A miniaturized, polarization insensitive, and fully passive chipless radio frequency identification tag is proposed in this research article. The realized tag is based on slotted elliptical structures in a nested loop fashion with identical lengths and widths of slot resonators. Alteration of data sequence is accomplished by addition and elimination of nested resonators in the geometric structure. The tag is capable to encode 10 bits of data and covers spectral range from 3.6 to 15.6 GHz. The formulated structure demonstrates polarization insensitive characteristic. The data encoding structure is analyzed and optimized for different substrates that are, Rogers RT/duroid/5880, Rogers RT/duroid/5870, and Taconic TLX‐0 over the miniaturized footprint of 22.8 × 16 mm2. The presented tag is robust, novel, compact, and flexible exhibiting a stable response to impinging electromagnetic waves at various angles of incidence.  相似文献
