A high‐performance ambipolar light‐emitting transistor (LET) that has high hole and electron mobilities and excellent luminescence characteristics is described. By using this device, a conspicuous light‐confined edge emission and current‐density‐dependent spectral evolution are observed. These findings will result in broader utilization of device potential and they provide a promising route for realizing electrically driven organic lasers.  相似文献

After the recent discovery of bacterial riboswitches, synthetic riboswitches have been engineered by using natural and artificial RNA aptamers. In contrast to natural riboswitches, the majority of synthetic riboswitches in bacteria reported to date are ON switches that activate gene expression in response to the aptamer ligand. In this study, we adopted a mechanism‐guided approach to design libraries predisposed to contain OFF riboswitches that respond to thiamine pyrophosphate (TPP). The first library design exploited a pseudo‐Shine‐Dalgarno (SD) sequence located near the 3′‐end of the TPP aptamer, which would be less accessible to the ribosome when the aptamer is bound to TPP. In the second library, an SD sequence was strategically placed in the aptamer's P1 stem, which is stabilized upon ligand binding. OFF riboswitches were obtained by dual genetic selection of these libraries. The results underscore the importance of effective library design to achieve desired riboswitch functions.  相似文献

Heme can be removed from a number of native hemoproteins, thus forming corresponding apoproteins, each of which provides a site for binding of a metal complex. In one example, myoglobin, an O2 storage protein, can be reconstituted with iron porphycene to dramatically enhance the O2 affinity. Although it is known that myoglobin has poor enzymatic activity, the insertion of iron corrole or iron porphycene into apomyoglobin increases its H2O2-dependent peroxidase/peroxygenase activities. Furthermore, reconstitution with manganese porphycene promotes hydroxylation of an inert C H bond. It is also of interest to insert a non-porphyrinoid complex into an apoprotein. A cavity of apocytochrome c has been found to bind a diiron carbonyl complex, serving as a functional model of diiron hydrogenase. Aponitrobindin has a rigid β-barrel structure that provides an excellent cavity for covalently anchoring a metal complex. A rhodium complex embedded in the cavity of genetically modified nitrobindin has been found to promote stereoselective polymerization of phenylacetylene.  相似文献

Block copolymer consisting of polyfluorene and polytriarylamine with benzothiadiazole moiety at the junction is prepared in order to obtain an orange emitting polymer via Suzuki‐Miyaura followed by Buchwald‐Hartwig coupling reactions. Electroluminescent device fabricated with resulting block copolymer exhibit only orange emission, although slight blue emission is observed in the fluorescent spectrum for the thin film, indicating that benzothiadiazole part plays a role of an effective trap site. Devices based on polyfluorene homopolymer doped with block copolymer (10 wt %) or an orange emitting model compound at the corresponding content of benzotiadiazole unit are also fabricated. The device with the model compound exhibits orange emission with Commission Internationale de l'Éclairage (CIE) coordinate of (0.58, 0.42), whereas that with block copolymer pale orange with the coordinate of (0.44, 0.38). This fact is probably due to the preferential distribution of block copolymer at the vicinity of anode via hydrophilic interaction of trioxyethylene side chains with poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate). © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The Mycobacterium tuberculosis Ser/Thr kinase PknB is implicated in the regulation of bacterial cell growth and cell division. The intracellular kinase function of PknB is thought to be triggered by peptidoglycan (PGN) fragments that are recognized by the extracytoplasmic domain of PknB. The PGN in the cell wall of M. tuberculosis has several unusual modifications, including the presence of N-glycolyl groups (in addition to N-acetyl groups) in the muramic acid residues and amidation of d -Glu in the peptide chains. Using synthetic PGN fragments incorporating these diverse PGN structures, we analyzed their binding characters through biolayer interferometry (BLI), NMR spectroscopy, and native mass spectrometry (nMS) techniques. The results of BLI showed that muropeptides containing 1,6-anhydro-MurNAc and longer glycan chains exhibited higher binding potency and that the fourth amino acid of the peptide stem, d -Ala, was crucial for protein recognition. Saturation transfer difference (STD) NMR spectroscopy indicated the major involvement of the stem peptide region in the PASTA-PGN fragment binding. nMS suggested that the binding stoichiometry was 1:1. The data provide the first molecular basis for the specific interaction of PGN with PknB and firmly establish PGNs as the effective ligands of PknB.  相似文献

A shaft generator system supplies electrical power required in a ship by using a part of the power produced by the main engine. Since the speed of the main engine can vary over a wide range, an externally commutated thyristor inverter, which has high reliability, is generally used to produce ac power with constant voltage and frequency. In this paper, a set of system equations, by which the total harmonic distortion of the output voltage, for example, can be estimated, is derived first. The effects of leading angle of the inverter and the reactance of ac reactor located in the output side of the inverter on the system performances and the operation limit of the system are then clarified. Moreover, a way of taking the system losses into account is proposed to obtain precise calculation results. Urease-immobilized ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVA) membrane was prepared by the covalent bonding of urease on EVA membrane activated with cyanuric chloride. The urease-immobilized EVA membrane had optimum pH at about 7.0 similar to native urease. The Michaelis constant (Km) and the maximum velocity (Vm) of the urease-immobilized EVA membrane were smaller than those of native urease. When the EVA membrane, prepared on a polyethylene (PE) plate by the phase inversion method, was used as a support, urease was asymmetrically distributed in the direction of cross section of the urease-immobilized EVA membrane. The permeation decomposition of urea through the asymmetrically urease-immobilized EVA membrane depended on the asymmetric distribution of urease in the membrane. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The large eddy simulation (LES) is applied to an unconfined swirling flow of an air surrounding a bluff-body having a central jet of air, and the complicated flowfield that involves the recirculation and vortex breakdown is investigated. The Smagorinsky model is used as the sub-grid scale model. The results of the present numerical simulation are compared with the experimental data of the mean and stochastic root mean square (RMS) variations of two velocity components. Although the inflow conditions are specified in a simple manner, the obtained numerical results are in reasonable agreement with the experiments, except for a part of RMS variation values near downstream of the bluff body. The present numerical calculations can successfully reproduce the two characteristics of the flow, i.e., an upstream recirculation zone established just downstream of the burner plane and the additional recirculation zone established at the more downstream location.  相似文献
