A method for obtaining electrocardiographic potential through thin cloth inserted between the measuring electrodes and the skin of a subject's dorsal surface when lying supine has been proposed. The method is based on capacitive coupling involving the electrode, the cloth, and the skin. Examination of a pilot device which employed the method revealed the following: (1) In spite of the gain attenuation in the high frequency region, the proposed method was considered useful for monitoring electrogardiogram (ECG) for nondiagnostic purpose. (2) The method was able to yield a stable ECG from a subject at rest for at least 7 h, and there was no significant adverse effect of long-term measurement on the quality of the signal obtained. (3) Electrode area was the factor that had most influence on the signal, compared with other factors such as cloth thickness and coupling pressure, but could be reduced to 10 cm2 for heart rate detection. (4) Input capacitance of the device was assumed to be the dominant factor for the gain attenuation in the high frequency region, and should be reduced with a view to diagnostic use. Although there is still room for improvement in terms of practical use, the proposed method appears promising for application to bedding as a noninvasive and awareness-free method for ECG monitoring.  相似文献

ABSTRACT: A bacterium, which was isolated from fish-sauce mush (moromi) of frigate mackerel and identified as Staphylococcus xylosus , could change notes of an odor in fish sauce made in Thailand. Volatile compounds of the fish sauce after incubation at 32 °C for 24 d with the cultured bacterium were analyzed by gas chromatogra-phy. Although the contents of 2-ethylpyridine and dimethyl trisulfide were reduced during the incubation, 4 volatile compounds, including 2-methylpronal, 2-methylbutanal, 2-pentanone, and 3-(methylthio)propanal, showed no significant quantity changes. On the other hand, although 3-methyl-1-butanol and 2,6-dimethylpyrazine were markedly increased, 3-methylbutanoic acid was slightly increased. As a result of sensory evaluation, fishy, sweaty, fecal, and rancid notes of the fish sauce treated with the bacterium were all weaker than those of the nontreated fish sauce. No changes were found with respect to burnt, cheesy, meaty, and ammoniacal notes between fish sauce treated with the bacterium and that without treatment. Taken together, the odor of fish sauce was much improved by treatment with the isolated bacterium.  相似文献

Recently, micro- and nanomachines for microelectromechanical systems and the mechanism of bio-adhesive pads have attracted great interest. Nanoscale structures are affected by forces such as the van der Waals force, even though they are neglected in large-scale structures. In this paper, the van der Waals force is introduced to a boundary element method (BEM) program for analyzing adhesion in arbitrarily shaped bodies. The van der Waals force is described by a nonlinear function of the distance between two surfaces in close proximity, and the adhesion and repulsion forces vary greatly within the atom equilibrium distance. Therefore, it is difficult to obtain a solution for the simultaneous equation in the BEM. We propose a method to compute the body deformation and apply it to the adhesion between a cylinder and a flat, rigid substrate. The solution is compared with previously published theoretical results, and the validity of the algorithm for approaching the solution is demonstrated. Further calculations for the adhesive contact of softer and harder cylinders with a rigid substrate are conducted.  相似文献

The old ELISA method for detection of allergenic substances (egg and milk) in Kanagawa prefecture from 2003 to 2007, employed before improvement of the food allergen labeling system, yielded detection rates of 20% for egg and 30% for milk. In 2005, after improvement of the labeling system, the detection rate using the new ELISA in solutions containing 1% SDS and 7% 2-mercaptoethanol increased by about 10% for egg, but decreased by half for milk. There were 4 positive samples (over 10 μg/g) for both egg and milk proteins, on account of contamination by ingredients at the manufacturing line and the lack of proper food labeling. In 2009, the contamination levels of egg and milk proteins in labeled commercial foods were low. In a comparison between the new and old methods with the same samples, both the new ELISA and Western-blot analyses showed an increase in the detection rate of egg protein. In relation to milk protein, the detection rates were decreased with the new ELISA, although the ELISA detection rate and consistency rates with Western-blot analysis were increased. On the other hand, in the case of a protein content below 5 μg/g, it was impossible to determine ovomucoid and casein by Western-blot analysis.  相似文献

Increased generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) is recognized as a prominent feature of vascular dysfunction with diabetes. For self-monitoring of the risk of diabetic complications, we proposed a simple adhesion test of erythrocytes using positively charged surfaces and its adhesion property was found to correlate HbA1c level in diabetic patients.  相似文献

In this study, a pilot-scale plant was built to examine the practicality of producing biogas from seaweeds, widely available in Japan. Laminaria sp. and Ulva sp. seaweeds were mixed with other organic waste (milk) and used as fermentation materials. Though quantities and ratios of the materials were varied, the ratio of generated methane to input chemical oxygen demand (COD) was largely stable (0.2–0.3 m3 methane/kg COD) and the organic acid concentration in the methane fermentation solution was low (< 1200 ppm) during prolonged operation. These findings indicate that stable methane fermentation was achieved and that mixing with other organic material was effective in suppressing fluctuations in material amounts caused by the variable supply of seaweeds. Our results demonstrate the practical feasibility of biogas generation using seaweeds.  相似文献

Over the past 10 years, many products utilizing the functionality of salmon cartilage proteoglycan have come on the market, and consumer awareness of proteoglycan has increased. During this period, the biggest issue has been how to evaluate the amount and quality of proteoglycan in the cartilage extract blended in the products. In this study, we propose an immunological method that can easily evaluate the amount and quality of proteoglycan in the proteoglycan-containing compositions. By the present method, it is possible to evaluate not only the retention of the functional domains of the core protein of proteoglycan, but also that of chondroitin sulfate chains linked to the core protein. Furthermore, the binding activity of proteoglycan to hyaluronan can be evaluated if hyaluronan is used as a probe instead of an antibody. This method is expected to be useful for proteoglycan quality evaluation during the manufacturing process and product storage.  相似文献
