Rapid demographic aging has made caring for the elderly an increasingly important social issue in Japan. To study current conditions of the oldest elderly citizens, we investigated the dietary practices of centenarians in the Tokyo metropolitan area. First, we compared the food intake of centenarians with that of octogenarians. Next, to identify dietary trends, we investigated whether food intake by centenarians had changed significantly between 1981 and 1995. Nutritional intake by the centenarians and octogenarians in 1995 was about 60% and 75% that of the control, respectively. However, the nutritional intake of well nourished centenarians was similar to that of the octogenarians. Cognitive function and daily activity have an influence on nutritional intake. The centenarians were similar to the control subjects in their consumption of dairy products, sweets, and fruit. However, their intake of cereals, meat, fish, and fatty oils was loss than 60% that of the control, which indicates their preference for soft and sugary foods. The pattern of dietary practices of centenarians in 1981 was similar. Although the total food intake of centenarians amounted to 60% of the control in 1995 energy intake per kilogram of body weight averaged over 30 kcal. As to dietary trends, centenarians in 1981 are more cereals, eggs, algae products, and legumes than did their 1995 counterparts. This finding seems to reflect a generational difference in dietary habits.  相似文献

We describe a method to evaluate glomerular filtration rate (GFR) in both children and adults using 99mTc-diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid (DTPA) and a gamma camera. METHODS: Renal scintigraphy with 99mTc-DTPA was performed in 40 children and 92 adults with various degrees of renal function. The percent renal uptake at 2-2.5 min after tracer arrival in the kidney was determined with background subtraction and correction for soft-tissue attenuation and was correlated by linear regression analysis with GFR measured from two blood samples. A perirenal region of interest was used for background subtraction. Renal depth was computed using the equations determined or validated on the basis of CT measurements, and the attenuation coefficient was set at 0.12. The obtained regression equation was used to predict GFR. Renal function was also assessed by the Gates' method. RESULTS: Percent renal uptake was closely correlated with GFR normalized for body surface area in all patients (y = 15.958x - 2.94; r = 0.939). GFR was successfully predicted using the regression equation in both children and adults. Gates' method severely overestimated GFR in children and provided less accurate values even in adults than our method. CONCLUSION: The method presented here requires neither blood sampling nor additional imaging and allows estimation of GFR in both children and adults.  相似文献

It is important to grasp the explosion characteristics of object gases: natural gas and methane, in order to evaluate the influence of a gas explosion accident in the HTTR hydrogen production system on the reactor. Thus, we carried out explosion experiments of the object gases in semi-open space, and verified a numerical analysis code for the simulation of the explosion accident. It was confirmed that NG–air mixture or methane-air mixture in semi-open space did not result in DDT although 10 g of C-4 explosive was used as an ignition source, and the numerical results agreed relatively with the experimental results. As a result, we could have the prospects for predicting the influence of the explosion accident on the reactor.  相似文献

This paper presents an application of parallel genetic algorithms (PGA) to the optimal long-range generation expansion planning. The problem can be formulated as a combinatorial optimization problem that determines the order of introduced generation units at each interval of the year. The proposed method considers introduced power limits of each technology, maximum loads at each interval, and load duration curves at each interval. Appropriate string representation for the problem is presented. Binary and decimal coding and three selection methods are compared. The method is developed on a transputer that is one of the parallel processors. The feasibility of the proposed method is demonstrated using a typical expansion problem with four technologies and five intervals. The method is then compared with conventional dynamic programming and a simple genetic algorithm with promising results.  相似文献

We purified a novel serine protease with a molecular mass of 26 kDa from Sarcophaga pupae. This protease appeared almost exclusively in the yellow body, an organ that develops temporarily in the pupae of dipteran insects and expands to form the adult midgut by engulfing the larval midgut. cDNA analysis revealed that this protease consists of 239 amino acid residues and has significant structural similarity with bovine trypsin (about 40% sequence identity). The 26-kDa protease gene was transiently activated in 1-day-old pupae. The protease was found to cross-react immunologically with antibody against sarcotoxin IA, an antibacterial protein produced by this insect. It is suggested that this protease participates in the decomposition of the larval midgut in the yellow body during metamorphosis.  相似文献

An oxygen-deficient Mn(II) ferrite (Mn0.97Fe2.02O3.92) was synthesized and its reactivity to reduce CO2 gas into carbon was studied at 300°C. The oxygen-deficient Mn(II) ferrite was obtained by flowing H2 gas through Mn(II) ferrite with a nearly stoichiometric composition of Mn0.97Fe2.02O4.00 at 300° C. The lattice constant of the oxygen-deficient Mn(II) ferrite (0.8505nm) is larger than that of the Mn(II) ferrite with a nearly stoichiometric composition (0.8498nm). The chemical composition of the Mn(II) ferrite changed from Mn0.97Fe2.02O4.00 to Mn0.97Fe2.02O3.92 during the H2 reduction process, indicating that the oxygen is deficient in the spinel structure of the Mn(II) ferrite. This was confirmed by Mössbauer spectroscopy and X-ray diffractometry. The efficiency of CO2 decomposition into carbon at 300°C with the oxygen-deficient Mn(II) ferrite was much lower by about 105 than that of oxygen-deficient magnetite. This is considered to be due to the difference in electron conductivity between Mn(II) ferrite and magnetite, which determines the reductivity for CO2 into carbon by donation of an electron at the adsorption site.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Despite increased awareness of risk factors, wound complications continue to be a problem following coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. A minimally invasive alternative was therefore developed to reduce the risk of complications while providing the same benefits as the standard open vein harvest procedure. METHODS: Video-assisted endoscopic technique for vein harvest was introduced in our medical center in October 1996. The procedure was evaluated and compared with the standard open vein harvest procedure. With the endoscopic technique, small incisions were made, each about 2-3 cm at the selected access sites (groin and above and below the knee). An endopath subcutaneous dissector was subsequently inserted along the anterior surface of the saphenous vein with the assistance of an endoscope and video monitor. The venous side branches were detected and positioned using a vessel dissector. A ligaclip was applied and the branches were divided using endopath-scissors. In some cases, the venous branches were divided directly using the endopath-scissors. Therefore, the distal and proximal ends of the saphenous vein were isolated, ligated and divided. The harvested veins were used for CABG. Each patient was evaluated for length of surgery, hospital stay and morbidity. RESULTS: From October 1996 through May 1997, we performed 50 procedures using video-assisted endoscopic vein harvest. The results were compared with those from 106 patients who underwent standard open vein harvest during the same period. The rate of complications was 2% in the endoscopic group compared with 13.2% in the open group (p < 0.05). The average hospital stay was 7.2 days in the endoscopic group and 11.5 days in the open group (p < 0.05). Twelve weeks after the operation, all of the incisions healed with good cosmetic results in the endoscopic group. However, long visible scars were found in the patients in the open group. CONCLUSIONS: Endoscopic saphenous vein harvest provides a minimally invasive alternative to open vein harvest. It provides good cosmetic results without a hypertrophic scar and enables the patient to regain early ambulation.  相似文献
