The numbers of obese people and diabetic patients are ever increasing. Obesity and diabetes are high-risk conditions for chronic diseases, including certain types of cancer, such as colorectal cancer (CRC). The aim of this study was to develop a novel animal model in order to clarify the pathobiology of CRC development in obese and diabetic patients. We developed an animal model of obesity and colorectal cancer by breeding the C57BL/KsJ-db/db (db/db) mouse, an animal model of obesity and type II diabetes, and the C57BL/6J-Apc(Min/+) (Min/+) mouse, a model of familial adenomatous polyposis. At 15 weeks of age, the N9 backcross generation of C57BL/KsJ-db/db-Apc(Min/+) (db/db-Min/+) mice developed an increased incidence and multiplicity of adenomas in the intestinal tract when compared to the db/m-Min/+ and m/m-Min/+ mice. Blood biochemical profile showed significant increases in insulin (8.3-fold to 11.7-fold), cholesterol (1.2-fold to 1.7-fold), and triglyceride (1.2-fold to 1.3-fold) in the db/db-Min/+ mice, when compared to those of the db/m-Min/+ and m/m-Min/+ mice. Increases (1.4-fold to 2.6-fold) in RNA levels of insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-1, IRF-1R, and IGF-2 were also observed in the db/db- Min/+ mice. These results suggested that the IGFs, as well as hyperlipidemia and hyperinsulinemia, promoted adenoma formation in the db/db-Min/+ mice. Our results thus suggested that the db/db-Min/+ mice should be invaluable for studies on the pathogenesis of CRC in obese and diabetes patients and the therapy and prevention of CRC in these patients. 相似文献

Simple formulas are proposed for predicting the Munsell value of colors with the same tone (the same values for whiteness‐blackness, perceived lightness, and chroma irrespective of hue). The formulas can be used for any tone. In other words, the method can determine the Munsell value with the same perceived lightness at any specified chroma irrespective of hue. The chromatic strength (CS) function is only used for the derivations. The formulas are very simple, and can be used not only in the colorimetry but also in the color design field. The concept described in this study is that a common CS function can be used for transforming each of the three color attributes (hue, lightness, and chroma) from their uniform color space metric to their corresponding color appearance space attribute. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. High-density nickel–dispersed-alumina (Al2 O3 /nickel) composites with superior mechanical properties were obtained by the hydrogen reduction and the hot pressing of alumina–nickel oxide (Al2 O3 /NiO) mixed powders. The mixtures were prepared by using NiO or nickel nitrate (Ni(NO3 )2 · n H2 O) as a dispersion source of nickel metal. Microstructural investigations of the composite fabricated using nitrate powder revealed that fine nickel particles, } 100 nm in diameter, dispersed homogeneously at the matrix grain boundaries, forming the intergranular nanocomposite. High strength (.1 GPa) and high-temperature hardness were registered for the composite that contained a small amount of nickel dispersion. The ferromagnetic properties of nickel, such as high coercive force, were observed, because of the fine magnetic dispersions, which indicates a functional value of structural composites. 相似文献

The effect of preparation methods and processing conditions on morphology and mechanical properties of poly(styrene-b-ethylene-co-butylene-b-styrene) (SEBS) triblock copolymer were investigated with atomic force microscopy (AFM) tapping mode and nanomechanical mapping, tensile testing, and gel permeation chromatograph (GPC). It was found that the samples prepared by solution casting and melt processing show large difference in morphology and mechanical properties. High shear rate does not induce alignment of lamellar block copolymer melts but leads to serious degradation of SEBS. As increase of rotational speed from 0 to 400 rpm, the molecular weight including Mn and Mw decreases from 67,100 to 26,000 and 70,000 to 43,000, respectively. Such large molecular weight decrease causes greatly decreased tensil strength but there is almost no evident effect on the well-phase separated morphology and Young's modulus of the SEBS. The Young's modulus distribution revealed by nanomechanical mapping becomes narrow as the increase of rotational speed. The amount of SEBS molecular having higher Young's modulus, which play a very important role in tensile strength of SEBS, also decreases. 相似文献

The redox flow battery using uranium as the negative and the positive active materials in polar aprotic solvents was proposed. In order to establish the guiding principle for the uranium compounds as the active materials, the investigation of uranium β-diketonate complexes was conducted on (i) the solubility of active materials, (ii) the electrode reaction of U(VI) and U(IV) β-diketonate complexes and (iii) the estimation of the open circuit voltage of the battery. The solubilities of higher than 0.8 mol dm−3 of U(VI) complexes and higher than 0.4 mol dm−3 of a U(IV) complex were obtained in the solvents. The electrode reactions of U(pta)4, UO2(dpm)2, UO2(fod)2 and UO2(pta)2 were first studied and the redox potentials of uranium β-diketonates were thermodynamically discussed. The open circuit voltage is estimated more than 1 V by using Hacac or Hdpm. The larger open circuit voltage is expected when a ligand with the larger basicity is used. 相似文献

Different types of commercial nonporous (reverse osmosis and gas separation) polymeric membranes were screened for their abilities
to separate FFA, MG, DG, and TG from a lipase hydrolysate of high-oleic sunflower oil after diluting it with organic solvents
(ethanol and hexane). Cellulose acetate (CA) (NIR-1698) membrane gave the largest difference in rejection between FFA and
glycerides and high flux in oil/ethanol mixtures. In the hexane system, the values of permeate flux and rejection were generally
lower than those in the ethanol system. The silicone-polyimide composite membrane (NTGS-2100) gave the highest flux and rejections
of solutes (70.2% for FFA, 94.4% for TG) in oil/hexane mixtures. In the ethanol system with the CA membrane, TG had the highest
rejection (98%) followed by DG (90%) and MG and FFA (50–70%) when the oil concentration was varied from 6.3 to 45.8%. A discontinuous
diafiltration process (16 batches) using the CA membrane with ethanol changed the composition of the oil from 31∶28∶9∶32 TG/DG/MG/FFA
to 65∶30∶1∶4. The results of this study showed that oil constituents can be separated in suitable solvents using appropriate

The thermal conductivity of polycrystalline Al-doped ZnO was controlled through the fabrication of nanostructured polycrystalline materials, by hot-pressing nanosized Zn1– x Al x O ( x = 0.01, 0.02) particles, which were synthesized by a coprecipitation and spray-drying method. This process resulted in an improved thermoelectric power factor because of the nanosized Zn0.99 Al0.01 O particles of the polycrystalline products. Preparation of a model nano-matrix-dispersed polymer was investigated in terms of graft-copolymerization of deproteinized natural rubber latex with styrene, using tert-butyl hydroperoxide/tetraethylenepentamine as an initiator. The products were characterized by 1H-NMR spectroscopy and size-exclusion-chromatography after ozonolysis. The grafting efficiency of styrene was found to be more than 90% under the best condition of the graft-copolymerization. The morphology of the film specimens, prepared from graft-copolymers, was observed by transmission electron microscopy after staining the films with OsO4. Poly(ethylene glycol)‐based nanoparticles have received significant attention in the field of biomedicine. When they are copolymerized with pH‐ or temperature‐sensitive comonomers, their small size allows them to respond very quickly to changes in the environment, including changes in the pH, ionic strength, and temperature. In addition, the high surface‐to‐volume ratio makes them highly functionalized. In this work, nanoparticles composed of temperature‐sensitive poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide), poly(ethylene glycol) 400 dimethacrylate, and poly(ethylene glycol) 1000 methacrylate were prepared by a thermally initiated, free‐radical dispersion polymerization method. The temperature‐responsive behavior of the hydrogel nanoparticles was characterized by the study of their particle size with photon correlation spectroscopy. The size of the nanoparticles varied from 200 to 1100 nm and was a strong function of the temperature of the system, from 5 to 40°C. High strength polyethylene fiber (Toyobo, Dyneema® fiber: hereinafter abbreviated to DF) has a negative thermal expansion coefficient. Relation between fiber structure and thermal strain of DF used as reinforcement of DF reinforced plastic (DFRP) for cryogenic use was investigated. The crystallinities and orientation angles of several kinds of polyethylene fibers having different modulus from 15 to 134Gpa (herein after abbreviated to DFs) were measured by NMR and X‐ray. We obtained the parameters of the mechanical series‐parallel model composed of crystal and amorphous by crystallinity and modulus. Thermal expansion coefficients of DFs were estimated by mechanical series‐parallel model. All DFs having different modulus showed negative thermal expansion coefficients in the temperature range from 180 to 300K, and absolute values of those markedly increased by increasing tensile modulus of DF. The estimated thermal expansion coefficients showed negative values, and thermal strains showed a similar curve to observed ones mostly. Average thermal expansion coefficients in the temperature range from 180 to 300K estimated by mechanical model agreed with the observed ones. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
