The kinetic speciation of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), and Zn(II) in model solutions of a well-characterized fulvic acid (Laurentian fulvic acid), freshwater samples from the Rideau River (Ottawa, Ontario), and freshwater samples from the Sudbury (Ontario) area were investigated by the competing ligand exchange method using Chelex 100 as the competing ligand and by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry to measure the dissociation kinetics. The metal species were quantitatively characterized by the rate coefficient for the first-order dissociation of metal complex to free metal ion. This technique can be applied to almost all elements and represents an important advance in our ability to investigate the kinetic availability of metal species in the freshwater environment. The order of the lability of the metal complexes, Co(II) > Ni(II) > Cu(II) < Zn(II), follows the reverse order of the ligand field stabilization energy with the exception of Cu(II); the behavior of Cu(II) is also due to the Jahn-Teller effect, which shortens the equatorial bonds and lengthens the axial bonds of a tetragonally distorted Cu(II)-L6 complex. This study has demonstrated a relationship between the lability of metal-DOM complexes of the 3d transition metals in freshwaters and their d electron configuration. This is the first time that the importance of the d electron configuration on the lability of metal complexes in the freshwater environment has been demonstrated. The slow complexation kinetics of both Ni(II) and Cu(II) suggestthatthe usual equilibrium assumption for freshwaters may be invalid.  相似文献

The work involved in identifying geothermal fields can be simplified by means of a Geographical Information System (GIS), a decision-making tool used to determine the spatial association between exploration and environmental thematic maps. This methodology has been applied to part of the Sabalan geothermal field in northwestern Iran, and to the siting of exploration wells. The datasets used in the analyses consist of geological, geochemical and geophysical information. Boolean and Index Overlay knowledge-driven models were developed for site selection; the findings from these two models correlated well with the exploration data modeling. The results of the Index Overlay model were combined with those of an environmental suitability analysis for final selection of well sites. The results of exploration and environmental data modeling were combined to select and prioritize the sites of three exploratory wells in the study area.  相似文献

This study reports measurements of stability limits and exhaust NO mole fractions of technically-premixed swirl ammonia-air flames enriched with either methane or hydrogen. Experiments were conducted at different pressures from atmospheric to 5 bar, representative of commercial micro gas turbines. The full range of ammonia fractions in the fuel blend, xNH3, was considered, from 0 (pure methane or hydrogen) to 1 (pure ammonia), covering very lean (φ = 0.25) to rich (φ = 1.60) equivalence ratios. Results show that increasing pressure widens the range of stable equivalence ratios for pure ammonia-air flames. Regardless of pressure, there is a critical ammonia fraction above which the range of stable equivalence ratios suddenly widens. This is because flashback does not occur anymore when the equivalence ratio is progressively increased towards stoichiometric and rich blowout occurs instead. This critical ammonia fraction increases with pressure and is larger for ammonia-hydrogen than for ammonia-methane. Provided that enough hydrogen is blended with ammonia (xNH3 < 0.9), flames with very lean equivalence ratios (φ < 0.7) can be stabilized and these yield competitively low NO emissions (<200 ppm), regardless of pressure. For this reason, very lean swirl ammonia-hydrogen-air flames are promising candidates for micro gas turbines. However, N2O emissions have the potential to be unacceptably large for these operating conditions if heat loss is too large or residence time is too short. As a consequence, the post flame region must be considered carefully. Due to the lower reactivity of methane compared to that of hydrogen, very lean swirl ammonia-methane-air flames could not be stabilized and good NO performance is limited to rich equivalence ratios for ammonia-methane fuel blends. The equivalence ratio above which good NO performance depends on pressure and bulk velocity.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A new benchmark with a high accurate solution is proposed for the verification of numerical codes dealing with double-diffusive convection in a heterogeneous porous medium. The new benchmark is inspired by the popular problem of square porous cavity by assuming a stratified porous medium. A high accurate steady state solution is developed using the Fourier–Galerkin method. To this aim, the unknowns are expanded in double infinite Fourier series. The accuracy of the developed solution is assessed in terms of the truncation orders of the Fourier series. Comparison against finite element solutions highlights the worthiness of the proposed benchmark for numerical code validation.  相似文献

The Fourier-Galerkin (FG) method is used to produce a highly accurate solution for free convection in a square cavity filled with heterogeneous porous medium. To this end, the governing equations are reformulated in terms of the temperature and the stream function. These unknowns are then expanded in infinite Fourier series truncated at given orders. The accuracy of the FG solution is investigated for different truncation orders and compared to the results of an advanced finite-element numerical model using fine-mesh discretization. The obtained results represent a set of high-quality data that can be used for benchmarking numerical models.  相似文献

Coaxial wire-cylinder electrode arrangements are widely used for the electrostatic precipitation of dust particles contained in flue gases. The aim of this paper was to evaluate a new design, which was expected to increase the particle collection efficiency. The collector electrode of the several models under study consisted of a cylinder with alternate small- and large-diameter sections. In a first set of experiments, the current–voltage characteristics of each model were compared with those obtained for a standard wire-cylinder electrode arrangement, at both polarities of the high-voltage supply, and for three values of the inlet airflow rate, namely, 0, 4.5, and 6 $hbox{dm}^{3}/hbox{min}$, with the corresponding air velocities in the large-diameter sections being 0, 6.0, and 8.0 cm/s. A second set of experiments showed that the current density distribution inside the models depends on the geometry of the electrode system but is roughly the same at 4.5 and 6 $hbox{dm}^{3}/hbox{min}$. The particle collection efficiency of the different models was evaluated in a third set of experiments, performed with 2-g samples of starch powder, under various operating conditions. Data analysis revealed that the modified precipitators have higher efficiency than the standard model. As expected, for a given geometry of the electrode arrangement, the efficiency was found be lower at higher inlet airflow rates. These findings could serve in the design of new industrial electrostatic precipitators.   相似文献

The bcl-2 gene product inhibits apoptosis and is thought to participate in oncogenesis. Association of bcl-2 immunopositivity with improved prognosis of non-small cell lung cancers (NSCLC) is controversial. Although two studies have reported better survival in bcl-2-immunopositive NSCLCs, a third series has contradicted this finding. The authors studied a relatively larger case series involving 427 patients for whom detailed information on long-term follow-up was available to determine the prognostic significance of bcl-2 expression. The study included 252 adenocarcinomas (AC), 111 squamous cell carcinomas (SCC), and 64 large cell carcinomas (LC). After antigen retrieval, sections were immunostained using a monoclonal anti-bcl-2 antibody (1:60, Clone 124, Dako) and the avidin-biotin complex technique. Staining was scored as positive or negative and also on a semiquantitative scale as 0, low (<10%), moderate (10% to 75%), or extensive (>75%). Bcl-2 immunoreactivity was correlated with survival using the actuarial survival method, Kaplan-Meier method, and log-rank test and was not associated with statistically significant differences in survival for NSCLCs (P = .5537). Differences in survival remained insignificant even after NSCLCs were stratified for cell type, stage, or grade, singly or in combination. Therefore, using this method, bcl-2 immunopositivity does not appear to act as an independent prognostic indicator in NSCLCs.  相似文献

PURPOSE: To gain understanding of the seminal vesicle as a muscular organ, seminal vesicle compliance and contractile properties were quantified with an in vivo, microsurgical rat model. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Microsurgical dissection was performed on anesthetized rats to enable simultaneous organ filling and monitoring of intraluminal pressures. The reliability and reproducibility of post-ganglionic hypogastric nerve-induced ipsilateral (4 rats) and bilateral (5 rats) seminal vesicle contractile responses were assessed during repeated nerve stimulation. Seminal vesicle resting compliance was assessed during a constant saline infusion (10 rats). Functional performance curves were obtained at fixed fill-volumes by measuring organ contraction after nerve stimulation (4 rats). RESULTS: A reproducible seminal vesicle contractile response was obtained with a nerve stimulation interval > 15 minutes. Bilateral seminal vesicle responses were observed with unilateral nerve stimulation. The resting organ compliance curve with saline filling exhibited a characteristic, triphasic response. Functional performance studies revealed that contractile performance improves as the fill-volume increases until the distensibility limit of the organ is reached. CONCLUSIONS: A reliable, in vivo, rat model of seminal vesicle organ compliance and contractility is described. The seminal vesicle is a highly contractile, compliant smooth muscular organ with dynamic properties analogous to that of the urinary bladder. This experimental system may allow for the investigation of pharmacologic and other physiological influences on in vivo organ activity.  相似文献

Dystrophic neurites are major components of neuritic (both immature and mature) senile plaques in Alzheimer disease. Previous studies have shown strong immunoreactivity for different neuropeptides, and chromogranin A, a protein associated with dense-core vesicles, in dystrophic neurites. In the present study, antibodies to synaptophysin, synapsin, Rab3a and synaptotagmin (synaptic vesicle proteins), and SNAP-25 (synaptosomal-associated protein of 25 kD) and syntaxin (presynaptic plasma membrane proteins) have been used to learn about the dystrophic neurite equipment of proteins that are necessary for the docking and fusion of synaptic vesicles, and then for exocytosis and neurotransmission. The present results have shown that, although most neuritic senile plaques have chromogranin A- and SNAP-25-immunoreactive dystrophic neurites, only a percentage of them contain synaptophysin, and a minority contain synaptotagmin and Rab3a. Dystrophic neurites do not contain synapsin and syntaxin. These results show that dystrophic neurites of senile plaques are defective in proteins that control exocytosis and neurotransmission.  相似文献
