A novel vasorelaxant peptide, adrenomedullin (AM), has been isolated from the acid extract of human pheochromocytoma. We have recently shown that AM inhibits histamine- and acetylcholine-induced bronchoconstriction in anesthetized guinea pigs in vivo, and this bronchodilatory effect is long-lasting. Here, we measured plasma AM concentrations in nine patients with an acute attack of bronchial asthma. The results were compared with values in 30 age-matched normal control subjects and seven age-matched stable asthmatic patients. The mean AM concentrations of patients with an acute asthma attack (98 +/- 22 pg/mL) were clearly higher than those of normal control subjects (18 +/- 2 pg/mL) and stable asthmatic patients (21 +/- 3 pg/mL). Reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) showed that the major component of plasma immunoreactive AM in patients with an asthma attack and in normal subjects equally corresponded to authentic human AM(1-52). Our results suggest that plasma AM is markedly increased in many of the patients during an acute attack of bronchial asthma, but it is not observed in stable asthmatic patients. Although this report is preliminary, the observed increase of circulating AM during an acute asthma attack may represent a compensatory mechanism against the bronchoconstriction, probably through its bronchodilatory action. 相似文献

Mice lacking the alpha-subunit of the heterotrimeric guanine nucleotide binding protein Gq (Galphaq) are viable but suffer from ataxia with typical signs of motor discoordination. The anatomy of the cerebellum is not overtly disturbed, and excitatory synaptic transmission from parallel fibers to cerebellar Purkinje cells (PCs) and from climbing fibers (CFs) to PCs is functional. However, about 40% of adult Galphaq mutant PCs remain multiply innervated by CFs because of a defect in regression of supernumerary CFs in the third postnatal week. Recently, we have reported that central administration of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) strongly decreased food intake of chicks. The aim of the present study was to elucidate whether suppressed food intake by central injection of GLP-1 would be modified by an appetite stimulant such as fasting and neuropeptide Y (NPY). Birds (2 days old) were starved for 3 or 6 h and then GLP-1 (0.03 microg/10 microl) or saline was injected by the intracerebroventricular (i.c.v.) route. Birds starved for 6 h ate significantly more food than those starved for 3 h, while irrespective of the time for fasting GLP-1 strongly inhibited food intake as rapidly as 10 min after i.c.v injection. The suppressive effect on food intake continued until 4 h after injection. Central administration of NPY (2.5 microg/10 microl) greatly enhanced food intake, but co-injection of GLP-1 (0.01, 0.02 or 0.03 microg/10 microl) decreased food intake in a dose-dependent fashion. Under GLP-1 (0.03 microg/10 microl) treatment, whether NPY modifies food intake of chicks in a dose-dependent manner was investigated by co-injection of graded levels of NPY (0.4, 1.0 and 2.5 microg/10 microl). GLP-1 completely inhibited the effect of NPY on food intake without a dose response. These results suggest that central GLP-1 may interact with NPY and may be the most potent inhibitor of food intake in the chicken. 相似文献

Production of polypropylene (PP) nanofibers below 1 μm in average diameter is difficult with conventional melt‐spinning. A nozzle‐free melt‐type electrospinning (M‐ESP) system with a line‐like CO2 laser beam melting device were used to produce PP nanofibers. To achieve the purpose, core [poly(ethylene‐co‐vinyl alcohol) (EVOH)]–clad (PP) nanofibers (average diameter, 0.88 μm) were fabricated from PP/EVOH/PP three‐layer films using the M‐ESP. The core–clad structure was formed by a wrapping phenomenon caused by the difference in the melt flow rates (MFRs) of PP and EVOH melts. Hollow PP nanofibers were obtained from the core–clad nanofibers by extraction of EVOH. Multilayer mirrors with a system wavelength resolution (lambda/Dlambda) as high as 30-50 are required for the diagnostics of cosmic plasmas with temperatures of 1-20 MK. Such a high wavelength resolution can be realized by increasing the number of layer pairs contributing to the reflectance, by selecting less-absorbing materials for both the reflector and the spacer, and by decreasing the thickness of the reflector. We have fabricated a multilayer mirror tuned to 284 A with a silicon carbide reflector (20% thickness of the layer period) and an aluminum spacer and achieved lambda/Dlambda ~26.8 with a peak reflectivity of ~13.0%. This wavelength resolution is close to the value obtained with a numerical simulation and is considerably higher than the value obtained with the conventional Mo/Si multilayer. 相似文献

In this paper, the development of a quadruped micro-electro mechanical system (MEMS) microrobot with a four-leg independent mechanism is described. As the actuator mechanism inside small robot bodies is difficult to realize, many microrobots use external field forces such as magnetism and vibration. In this paper, artificial muscle wires that are family of shape memory alloy are used for the force of the actuator. The artificial muscle wire shows the large displacement by passing the electrical current through the material itself. The double four-link mechanism is adopted for the leg system. The link mechanism transforms the linear motion of the artificial muscle wire to the foot step-like pedaling motion. The location of the backward swing motion is lower than that of forward swing motion. This motion generates the locomotion force. As a result, the total length of the constructed quadruped MEMS microrobot was 6 mm. The microrobot could perform similar gait pattern changes as the quadruped animal. 相似文献

The surface and bottom compositions of poly(2-ethylhexyl acrylate) (P2EHA)/poly-(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoro acetone) [P(VDF-HFA)] blends were investigated by XPS analysis. In these blends, the enriched P(VDF-HFA) layer was observed from the top surface to a few nm depth, while the P2EHA component segregated at the bottom (the surface in contact with release liner). The probe tack values of the bottom side were remarkably larger than those of the surface side for the P2EHA/P(VDF-HFA) blends because the characteristic segregation structure was formed. We expected that the P2EHA/P(VDF-HFA) blends could be utilized as a non-backing pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) tape. The effects of the film thickness of the blends and the molecular weights of P2EHA on the segregation structure were also examined. We thought that segregation behavior found in P2EHA/P(VDF-HFA) blends was caused by several factors, such as surface tension, miscibility, density, and rate of solvent casting. 相似文献
