Surfactants, varying in their chemical composition and hydrophobic behavior, are used in the formulation of a waterborne coating.
These differences influence their aggregation in micellar structures, their interaction with associative thickeners, and in
particular, the synergies present in their competitive adsorptions on the disperse phases in a waterborne coating. Adsorption
of HEUR thickeners on latexes and the ability of surfactants to displace them from those surfaces is an important variable
in the dispersion’s viscosity. With large particle latexes, viscosity increases arise primarily from the network built through
the interaction of HEURs with surfactants in the aqueous phase. Fluorescence is used to verify the mechanism by which surfactants
enhance associative thickener viscosities. That is best achieved with nonionic surfactants, because of their synergies with
large hydrophobe HEURs at low concentration. With decreasing latex particle size the adsorbed species is an important contributor
to the dispersion’s viscosity through its contribution to the latex’s effective volume fraction increase and when the size
of the adsorbed HEUR is matched to the separation distances of the latex at 0.25 volume fraction. Achieving controlled shear-thinning
behavior in small particle size latex paints with the economic constraints on the amount of HEUR required to obtain 90 KU
viscosities are discussed.

ZnO is a highly efficient photon emitter, and has optical and piezoelectric properties that are attractive for a variety of applications in sensors and potentially optoelectronic devices such as emitters. Due to its identical stacking order and close lattice match to GaN, it is also being developed as a substrate material for GaN epitaxy. However, the surface finish of the ZnO is such that much of the damage induced by sawing and follow up mechanical polishing remains. We developed a thermal treatment method to eliminate surface damage on the 0 face of ZnO (0 0 0 1) to prepare it for epitaxial growth. Atomic force microscopy images of ZnO (0 0 0 1) annealed at 1050 °C for 3 h etc. show that residual scratches from mechanical polishing are removed and atomically flat, terrace-like surfaces are attained. In addition, low-temperature photoluminescence and high-resolution X-ray diffraction measurements have been employed to investigate the effect of annealing on ZnO substrates. 相似文献

A photonic crystal grating filter with an extremely wide rejection band and reduced modal back-reflections is proposed and demonstrated with a stopband extinction of 20 dB and insertion loss of less than 5 dB. Sources and current methods of analysis of uncertainty from randomness, fuzziness and ignorance or incomplete knowledge in seismic hazard assessment problem are briefly discussed at beginning; understandings of the authors are then presented in the following order. All three types of uncertainty come from incomplete knowledge. Probabilistic method can be applied to all of them, objective probability for random factors and subjective probability for the other two types of uncertain factors. Discrete subjective probability mass functions for incomplete and fuzzy factors can be obtained from logic-tree and membership functions respectively. Fractile curves may be used to show the scattering of any uncertainty factor, but a unified probabilistic treatment may be applied to any combination of all three types of uncertainty. 相似文献

经过改性的超细空心微珠可以作为填料加入到硬质聚氯乙烯(PVC-U)树脂中,同时改善PVC树脂的流变性、冲击性能和刚性等性能。研究结果表明,超细空心微珠加入到硬质PVC管材中,可以明显改善PVC硬管的加工流动性能,显著缩短塑化时间,降低最大扭矩。而超细空民微珠加入到硬质PVC板材时,可以提高PVC硬板的冲击性能,减小制品的收缩率,赋予PVC硬板优异的耐腐蚀性能,且产品的各项性能均符合PVC板材国家标准GB/T4454-96。 相似文献
