We searched for new components that are involved in the positive regulation of nuclear gene expression by light by extending a screen for Arabidopsis cue (chlorophyll a/b-binding [CAB] protein-underexpressed) mutants (H.-M. Li, K. Culligan, R.A. Dixon, J. Chory [1995] Plant Cell 7: 1599-1610). cue mutants display reduced expression of the CAB3 gene, which encodes light-harvesting chlorophyll protein, the main chloroplast antenna. The new mutants can be divided into (a) phytochrome-deficient mutants (hy1 and phyB), (b) virescent or delayed-greening mutants (cue3, cue6, and cue8), and (c) uniformly pale mutants (cue4 and cue9). For each of the mutants, the reduction in CAB expression correlates with the visible phenotype, defective chloroplast development, and reduced abundance of the light-harvesting chlorophyll protein. Levels of protochlorophyllide oxidoreductase (POR) were reduced to varying degrees in etiolated mutant seedlings. In the dark, whereas the virescent mutants displayed reduced CAB expression and the lowest levels of POR protein, the other mutants expressed CAB and accumulated POR at near wild-type levels. All of the mutants, with the exception of cue6, were compromised in their ability to derepress CAB expression in response to phytochrome activation. Based on these results, we propose that the previously postulated plastid-derived signal is closely involved in the pathway through which phytochrome regulates the expression of nuclear genes encoding plastid proteins. 相似文献

A case of Ewing's sarcoma of the bone, arising in the right radius of a 12-year-old girl, which showed unique histologic features after pre-operative treatment, is reported. The light microscopic features of a biopsy sample were those of a small round cell tumor showing positive immunoreaction with antibodies against the product of the MIC 2 gene (O13), neuron-specific enolase, neurofilament, and synaptophysin, but no morphological differentiation. The patient received combined intensive multi-drug chemotherapy and radiation before surgery. Examination of the surgical specimen showed that the tumor was less cellular than that in the biopsy specimen, and was composed mainly of loosely textured large cells mimicking ganglion cells, occasionally forming Homer-Wright rosettes. An immunohistochemical study revealed that neural differentiation was enhanced. Immunoreactivity for Leu-7 also became positive. Although the patient underwent postoperative chemotherapy, she died of multiple lung and bone metastases 30 months after the diagnosis. Autopsy showed that metastatic foci were made up of densely packed small round cells like those seen in the biopsy samples, but associated with prominent Homer-Wright rosettes. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first report of a tumor being replaced almost entirely by ganglion cells after pre-operative chemotherapy and radiotherapy. 相似文献

The anti-arthritic effects of epoxyquinomicins on type II collagen-induced arthritis in DBA/1J mice were examined. Prophylactic treatment with epoxyquinomicins A, B, C and D (1-4 mg/kg) had potent inhibitory effects on type II collagen-induced arthritis. In contrast to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), epoxyquinomicin C (1-30 mg/kg) had neither an anti-inflammatory effect on carrageenan-induced paw edema in rats nor an analgesic effect on acetic acid-induced writhing in mice. These results suggest that the mode of action of epoxyquinomicins is different from that of NSAIDs and that epoxyquinomicins may become useful drugs for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. 相似文献

Distribution and biliary and fecal excretion of bile acids were examined in Wistar strain male rats of about 300 g body weight.
The pool size of the rats on ordinary diet was 40 mg/rat, biliary secretion was 14 mg/hr, and fecal excretion was 10 mg/day.
Bile acids were mainly located in the small and large intestinal contents, 87% and 10%, respectively; but a portion was found
in the intestinal wall and the liver. Rats fed 2% cholesterol-supplemented diet for a week showed similar values for pool
size and biliary secretion with the rats on ordinary diet, but higher values for fecal excretion and distribution ratio in
the large intestinal contents. Cholic acid was a major component in the bile, small intestinal wall, small intestinal content
and liver, while the bile acid composition ratios were roughly similar to each other, although a relatively large amount of
α-muricholic acid was found in the intentinal wall and liver. Both the wall and content compositions of the large intestine
were similar to that of the feces, in which lithocholic, deoxycholic, α- and β-muricholic acids were the main components,
although the ratios of α- and β-muricholic acids in the large intestinal wall were larger than those in the intestinal contents
or feces. The high concentrations of these bile acids may indicate a difference of transport velocity across the cell membrane,

The effect of the IVa element addition to the niobium core and that of gallium addition to the matrix on the composition, growth rate and superconducting properties of the composite-processed Nb3Sn have been studied. The IVa elements added to the niobium core enhance the growth rate of Nb3Sn, and prevent the grain coarsening of Nb3Sn. A much larger amount of titanium is incorporated into Nb3Sn than zirconium or hafnium. Tc shows a slight maximum against the IVa element concentration in the niobium core. Jc at high magnetic fields is more significantly increased by titanium addition than zirconium or hafnium additions. The gallium substitution for tin in the matrix is effective for increasing Tc and Jc in high fields, except for the specimen with Nb-Ti alloy core. The simultaneous addition of hafnium and gallium is most effective for the enhancement of Jc in high fields. 相似文献

Molybdenum specimens prepared by two processes, powder-metallurgy (PM) and electron-beam melting (EB), were irradiated to a fast neutron fluence of 2.74 × 1024n/m2 (En? 1 MeV) at about 600°C (873 K), and their mechanical properties were studied in detail. It was shown that the degree of irradiation embrittlement in EB-Mo was smaller than that in PM-Mo, which might be caused by stronger grain-boundaries and probably smaller irradiation-hardening in the former. From the relation between the recovery of ductility and microstructural changes in post-irradiation annealed PM-Mo at 800 (1073 K), 1000 (1273 K) and 1200°C (1473 K), it was concluded that the recovery resulted from a decrease of irradiation hardening due to a rearrangement and a disappearance of depleted-zones, dislocation-loops and voids in order with increasing annealing temperature. An anomalous mode of fracture was observed in as-irradiated specimens, which consisted of inhomogeneous deformation, then brittle fracture not at the center but at the root of the deformation neck. This mode was observed in a narrow temperature range near the DBTT. A possible mechanism is discussed. 相似文献

Characterizations of Ti-B binary oxide thin films by means of various spectroscopic measurements have shown that Ti-B binary oxide thin films are formed by ultra fine TiO2 nanoparticles. A dramatic decrease in the contact angle of water droplets to 0 degree under ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation and a return to only half of its initial value under dark conditions were observed for the Ti-B binary oxide thin films. Moreover, ultraviolet irradiation of these thin film photocatalysts in the presence of NO led to photocatalytic decomposition of NO into N2 and O2. Especially when the Ti content was low, the size of the primary nanoparticles of the thin films was smaller and the photocatalytic reaction proceeded efficiently with a high selectivity for the formation of N2 and O2 from NO. 相似文献

Abstract— A new light‐collection optics has been developed that enhances the luminance of projection TV which use lamps as the light source. The conventional optical system consists of an elliptical reflector and a flat‐surface front glass, but these systems cannot sufficiently collect the beams coming from the light source, and they cause loss in the coupling with the light pipe. To solve this problem, we devised a new optical system through a structure of an aspherical reflector and an aspherical front glass. This new optical system concentrates the beams coming from the light source to a smaller point which improves the coupling efficiency. Thus, we have successfully increased the luminance of the projection TV by approximately 10%. In image classification based on bag of visual words framework, image patches used for creating image representations affect the classification performance significantly. However, currently, patches are sampled mainly based on processing low-level image information or just extracted regularly or randomly. These methods are not effective, because patches extracted through these approaches are not necessarily discriminative for image categorization. In this paper, we propose to utilize both bottom-up information through processing low-level image information and top-down information through exploring statistical properties of training image grids to extract image patches. In the proposed work, an input image is divided into regular grids, each of which is evaluated based on its bottom-up information and/or top-down information. Subsequently, every grid is assigned a saliency value based on its evaluation result, so that a saliency map can be created for the image. Finally, patch sampling from the input image is performed on the basis of the obtained saliency map. Furthermore, we propose a method to fuse these two kinds of information. The proposed methods are evaluated on both object categories and scene categories. Experiment results demonstrate their effectiveness. 相似文献
