The operational performance of a paper production plant can be significantly improved by appropriate process interventions. This paper deals with energy aspects of the most important section of such a plant, the paper drying section. A significant intervention that would lower the operational cost of the drying process is proposed. It refers to the recompression of low pressure steam leaving the dryers by means of a thermocompressor that would utilize high pressure steam coming from the plant burners. The mathematical model of the thermocompressor is evaluated and its design procedure is formulated as a mathematical programming problem involving appropriate objective function and constraints.  相似文献

Design of conveyor-belt dryers constitutes a mathematical programming problem involving the evaluation of appropriate structural and operational process variables so that total annual plant cost involved is optimized. The increasing need for dehydrated products of the highest quality, imposes the development of new criteria that, together with cost, determine the design rules for drying processes. Quality of dehydrated products is a complex resultant of properties characterizing the final products, where the most important one is color. Color is determined as a three-parameter resultant, whose values for products undergone drying should deviate from the corresponding ones of natural products, as little as possible. In this case, product quality dryer design is a complex multi-objective optimization problem, involving the color deviation vector as an objective function and as constraints the ones deriving from the process mathematical model. The mathematical model of the dryer was developed and the fundamental color deterioration laws were determined for the drying process. Non-preference multi-criteria optimization methods were used and the Pareto-optimal set of efficient solutions was evaluated. An example covering the drying of sliced potato was included to demonstrate the performance of the design procedure, as well as the effectiveness of the proposed approach.  相似文献

The growing consumers’ demand for healthier snacks is of high importance and is driving research and industry towards developing novel ready to-eat expanded products. Thus, it would be interesting to enrich these products with additives that possibly lead to highly nutrient products. In the present study, extruded snacks based on corn flour enriched with broccoli or olive paste were developed and studied. Although the addition of broccoli or olive paste in extruded snacks can improve their nutritional properties, the final properties of these products must also be considered. Textural analysis (compression tests), thermal analysis (glass transition temperature), and moisture sorption measurements (sorption isotherms) were performed. A Guggenheim–Anderson–de Boer model has been applied to describe moisture sorption isotherms. Moreover, simple mathematical models were developed in order to correlate textural properties (maximum stress, maximum strain, elasticity parameter, number of cracks) with the process conditions during the extrusion (screw speed, temperature) and the raw materials’ characteristics (moisture content, concentration of broccoli or olive paste). Regression analysis was used to estimate mathematical models’ parameters. The influence of process conditions and raw materials’ characteristics on the measured properties of corn-based snacks enriched with broccoli or olive paste was presented based on the alterations of the estimated parameters.  相似文献

This paper presents ALA (Adaptable Logarithm Approximation), a novel hardware architecture for the approximation of the base-2 logarithm of integers at an arbitrary accuracy, suitable for fast and area-efficient FPGA implementation. It is based on a piecewise linear approximation methodology, implemented so that an arbitrary number of linear segments approximate the logarithm function. The achieved approximation accuracy depends on the number of segments used, which also affects the size of a ROM used for storing the parameters that control the computation. The implementation of the ROM using an FPGA BlockRAM allows the parameters to be updated without reconfiguration of the FPGA core. This provides the considerable advantage of data set adaptability to the proposed architecture over the other relevant architectures, as the parameters can be easily updated to minimize the approximation error for different data sets. Both real and synthetic datasets have been used for evaluation purposes. The results show that ALA adapts well to all data sets used and requires significantly less FPGA slices than the CORDIC architecture to achieve the same or higher approximation accuracy. Moreover, it provides a throughput of one result per cycle and up to four times lower latency than the CORDIC core.  相似文献

Olive-mill cake is one of the most widespread biomaterials for bioenergy exploitation in Greece. It is a sludge-type material, produced as byproduct from olive-mill extraction process. Its energy content is higher than 15 MJ/kg db and it can be used for direct burning, after drying. The drying process of olive cake is examined in the present paper. Drying kinetics data as well as the related thermophysical properties are obtained experimentally. The appropriate dryer model is proposed, validated and used to design an industrial rotary dryer. Economic analysis of the process is also discussed. A characteristic case study of an industrial rotary dryer for olive cake is included to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.  相似文献

In this paper, we present CoLD (colorectal lesions detector) an innovative detection system to support colorectal cancer diagnosis and detection of pre-cancerous polyps, by processing endoscopy images or video frame sequences acquired during colonoscopy. It utilizes second-order statistical features that are calculated on the wavelet transformation of each image to discriminate amongst regions of normal or abnormal tissue. An artificial neural network performs the classification of the features. CoLD integrates the feature extraction and classification algorithms under a graphical user interface, which allows both novice and expert users to utilize effectively all system's functions. It has been developed in close cooperation with gastroenterology specialists and has been tested on various colonoscopy videos. The detection accuracy of the proposed system has been estimated to be more than 95%. As it has been resulted, it can be used as a supplementary diagnostic tool for colorectal lesions.  相似文献

It has been postulated that hirsute patients may have a relative deficiency in 11beta-hydroxylase activity of the adrenal cortex. In order to test this postulate, we have measured the serum levels of cortisol (Cp F) and 11-desoxycortisol (Cp S) and estimated the Cp S/Cp F ratio in 9 nonhirsute and 34 hirsute premenopausal women. As a group, the hirsute patients had significantly elevated (P less than 0.05) mean Cp F and Cp S levels but the mean Cp S/Cp F ratio was not significantly different from normal. Considered individually, only 3 hirsute patients had a Cp S/Cp F ratio greater than 2 SD above the mean normal levels. These ratios were 0.0218, 0.0139, and 0.023. If there is indeed an 11beta-hydroxylase deficiency in these 3 patients, it must be relatively minor, since a patient with documented 11beta-hydroxylase deficiency had Cp S levels of 218 ng/ml and a Cp S/Cp F ratio of 0.7. Our data suggest that 11beta-hydroxylase deficiency is not a common cause of hirsutism.  相似文献

This work introduces a novel active contour-based scheme for unsupervised segmentation of protein spots in two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2D-GE) images. The proposed segmentation scheme is the first to exploit the attractive properties of the active contour formulation in order to cope with crucial issues in 2D-GE image analysis, including the presence of noise, streaks, multiplets and faint spots. In addition, it is unsupervised, providing an alternate to the laborious, error-prone process of manual editing, which is required in state-of-the-art 2D-GE image analysis software packages. It is based on the formation of a spot-targeted level-set surface, as well as of morphologically-derived active contour energy terms, used to guide active contour initialization and evolution, respectively. The experimental results on real and synthetic 2D-GE images demonstrate that the proposed scheme results in more plausible spot boundaries and outperforms all commercial software packages in terms of segmentation quality.  相似文献

The derivatives of antipyrine and phenylbutazone are important antipyretic analgesics commonly used in clinical medicine. Although high performance liquid chromatography has been the conventional method used for the analysis of these drugs, in recent years capillary electrophoresis was validated to be a useful method in the analysis of antipyretic analgesics. However, there has been no report on the separation of antipyrine (AP), 4-aminoantipyrine (4-AAP), aminopyrine (APY), dipyrone (DIP) and phenylbutazone (PHE) in the literature. In this paper, a micellar electrokinetic capillary chromatographic (MECC) separation method was described for the five antipyretic analgesics.  相似文献
