We report on a cross-sectional high resolution transmission electron microscope study of lead sulfide nanocrystal quantum dots (NCQDs) dispersed on electron-transparent silicon nanopillars that enables nearly atomically-resolved simultaneous imaging of the entire composite: the quantum dot, the interfacial region, and the silicon substrate. Considerable richness in the nanocrystal shape and orientation with respect to the substrate lattice is observed. The average NCQD-substrate separation is found to be significantly smaller than the length of the ligands on the NCQDs. Complementary photoluminescence measurements show that light emission from PbS NCQDs on silicon is effectively quenched which we attribute to intrinsic mechanisms of energy and charge transfer from PbS NCQDs to Si. 相似文献

RECIST (Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors) is a linear measure intended to predict tumor size in medical computed tomography (CT). In this work, using purely geometrical considerations, we estimate how well RECIST can predict the volume of randomly-oriented tumor models, each composed of the union of ellipsoids. We demonstrate the generation of a nondiffracting double helical beam using axicons and ±1 vortex phase plates in a common-path interferometric system. Using linear diffraction theory, a simple analytical expression describing beam propagation is shown to agree with both experiments and Fresnel-diffraction-based simulations. Experiments are performed using continuous laser light in addition to ultrafast pulses, demonstrating that the common-path arrangement and the diffraction theory work equally well for both cases. 相似文献

Specialized hardware for neural networks requires materials with tunable symmetry, retention, and speed at low power consumption. The study proposes lithium titanates, originally developed as Li-ion battery anode materials, as promising candidates for memristive-based neuromorphic computing hardware. By using ex- and in operando spectroscopy to monitor the lithium filling and emptying of structural positions during electrochemical measurements, the study also investigates the controlled formation of a metallic phase (Li7Ti5O12) percolating through an insulating medium (Li4Ti5O12) with no volume changes under voltage bias, thereby controlling the spatially averaged conductivity of the film device. A theoretical model to explain the observed hysteretic switching behavior based on electrochemical nonequilibrium thermodynamics is presented, in which the metal-insulator transition results from electrically driven phase separation of Li4Ti5O12 and Li7Ti5O12. Ability of highly lithiated phase of Li7Ti5O12 for Deep Neural Network applications is reported, given the large retentions and symmetry, and opportunity for the low lithiated phase of Li4Ti5O12 toward Spiking Neural Network applications, due to the shorter retention and large resistance changes. The findings pave the way for lithium oxides to enable thin-film memristive devices with adjustable symmetry and retention. 相似文献

Infrared-visible sum frequency generation spectroscopy is used to investigate the corrosion inhibitor benzotriazole (BTAH) adsorbed on Cu(100) and Cu(111) in acidic solution. Potential-dependent in situ spectra indicate that the adsorbed molecule is the benzotriazole anion (BTA-) at all potentials investigated. The Cu(100) surface is shown to form an ordered adlayer at all potentials probed, while the Cu(111) face is shown to be disordered at negative potentials, but to order with applied positive potential. The ordered adlayer is shown to consist of the BTA- in two configurations, one coordinated to the surface and Cu+ ions in solution and the other coordinated only to the surface. The BTA- coordinated to Cu+ is shown to be more stable with respect to Cl- addition than BTA- coordinated to only the surface. This study demonstrates the viability of using sum frequency generation to study corrosion inhibition in situ. 相似文献

A method is given for incorporating the effects of built-in test (BIT) into the life cycle cost of a given electronic system. A cost model is derived that captures the savings achieved by BIT through reducing the maintenance times, complexity of external test equipment, personnel skill levels, amount of spare parts, and the need for preventive maintenance. The model also includes such design considerations as false alarms, diagnostic errors, undetected faults, BIT hardware failures, and diagnostic ambiguity. 相似文献

A new sub-class of binding protein-dependent transporter with specificity for a broad range of polar amino acids has been identified by sequence comparison, in Rhizobium leguminosarum, Rhodobacter capsulatus, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas fluorescens. Southern blotting and PCR analysis has shown that transporters from this new sub-class are widely distributed in Gram-negative bacteria, including, in addition to the above, Citrobacter freundii, Erwinia carotovorum and Rhizobium meliloti. ABC transporters of polar amino acids can be divided into two groups: those with narrow solute specificity and the newly identified sub-class with broad solute specificity. The binding and inner membrane proteins from transporters with a broad solute specificity are larger by approximately 30% than those with a narrow solute specificity. Multiple alignment of the inner membrane proteins from all sequenced polar amino acid transporters indicates there is an N-terminal conserved region that may be involved in solute specificity. A conserved arginine or lysine at residue 30 of this region is changed to glutamate in arginine transporters. Residue 53 also has a strong correlation with the charge on the transported solute, with basic amino acid transporters replacing an aliphatic amino acid at this position with a negatively charged amino acid. The general amino acid permease from R. leguminosarum, which will transport aliphatic as well as basic and acidic amino acids, juxtaposes two prolines at residues 52 and 53 of the N-terminal conserved region. 相似文献
