A knowledge based approach is introduced for retrieving images by content. It supports the answering of conceptual image queries involving similar-to predicates, spatial semantic operators, and references to conceptual terms. Interested objects in the images are represented by contours segmented from images. Image content such as shapes and spatial relationships are derived from object contours according to domain specific image knowledge. A three layered model is proposed for integrating image representations, extracted image features, and image semantics. With such a model, images can be retrieved based on the features and content specified in the queries. The knowledge based query processing is based on a query relaxation technique. The image features are classified by an automatic clustering algorithm and represented by Type Abstraction Hierarchies (TAHs) for knowledge based query processing. Since the features selected for TAH generation are based on context and user profile, and the TAHs can be generated automatically by a clustering algorithm from the feature database, our proposed image retrieval approach is scalable and context sensitive. Access path deployment is a critical issue in physical database design. Access paths typically include a clustered index as the primary access path and a set of secondary indexes as auxiliary access paths. To deploy the right access paths requires an effective algorithm and accurate estimation of the parameters used by the algorithm. One parameter central to any index-selection algorithm is the block selectivity of a query. Existing methods for estimating block selectivities are limited by restrictive assumptions. Furthermore, most existing methods produce estimates useful for aiding the selection of secondary indexes only. Little research has been done in the area of estimating block selectivities for supporting the selection of the clustered index. In this study, different molecular weight PEEK materials were used to determine the effect of spherulite size on fracture. Melt processing of the PEEK at different temperatures produced samples of different average spherulite size. A permanganic etching technique was used to reveal the spherulites. It was found that for low molecular weight 150P PEEK, the spherulite size increased with melt processing temperature; but, for the higher molecular weight 450G PEEK, the spherulite size remained approximately constant. Also, the average spherulite size was markedly lower for the material of higher molecular weight. The failure behaviour of these samples was studied using a compact tension test. It was found that the fracture toughness of PEEK varied with processing temperature. Also, the average spherulite size of this material had a profound influence on the fracture mechanism. 相似文献

Oxidation behavior and subsequent mechanical properties of Ti3SiC2 were studied. The oxide scale has significant effect on strength and hardness, which is mainly attributed due to the mismatch of coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of substrate and oxide phases. The improved flexural strength (~650 MPa) could be noticed at 1000 °C; however, at elevated temperature the ductility of Ti3SiC2 was predominant and reduced the strength. 相似文献

This work attempts to improve the mechanical properties of alumina-10 wt% zirconia (3 mol% yttria stabilized) composite by infiltrating a glass (magnesium aluminum silicate glass) of lower thermal expansion on the surface at high temperature. The glass improved the strength of the composite at room temperature as well as at higher temperatures. There was a significant improvement in the Weibull modulus after the glass infiltration. Glass-infiltrated samples showed better thermal shock resistance. The magnitude of strength increment was found to be in the order of the surface residual stress generated by thermo-elastic properties mismatch between the composite and the infiltrated glass. 相似文献
