The effects of trinitrotoluene (TNT) dynamic adsorption on granular activated carbon produced by 'Miloje Zakic', Serbia, are presented. The main task was to determine the conditions for TNT dynamic adsorption in order to remove the dissolved TNT from wastewater. The effects of temperature, concentration and flow rate in the chromatographic system were examined. Flow rates between 1 and 4 dm(3)/h were used. The heights of activated carbon in the columns were 70 and 135 mm while the diameter was 12 mm. The experiments were conducted at different temperatures (10-60 degrees C) and TNT influent concentrations ranging from 32.76 to 171 mg/dm(3) were used. The adsorption capacity of the activated carbon increased with increasing temperature, but it decreased with increasing input concentration and flow rate. The results obtained indicate that the influence of temperature is greater than was expected and the bed height and the amount of GAC used could be significantly lowered by increasing the temperature. The possibility of desorbing TNT from saturated activated carbon was also investigated. The amount of TNT adsorbed per mass unit of adsorbent was calculated using a model that optimally agreed with the experimental data. 相似文献

Two-dimensional PbSe nanocrystal arrays on silicon nitride membranes were investigated using electrostatic force microscopy (EFM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Changes in lattice and transport properties upon annealing in a vacuum were revealed. Local charge transport behavior was directly imaged by EFM and correlated to nanopatterns observed with TEM. Charge transport through nanochannels in complex two-dimensional nanocrystal networks was identified. We describe the combined use of 15N-metabolic labeling and a cysteine-reactive biotin affinity tag to isolate and quantitate cysteine-containing polypeptides (Cys-polypeptides) from Deinococcus radiodurans as well as from mouse B16 melanoma cells. D. radiodurans were cultured in both natural isotopic abundance and 15N-enriched media. Equal numbers of cells from both cultures were combined and the soluble proteins extracted. This mixture of isotopically distinct proteins was derivatized using a commercially available cysteine-reactive reagent that contains a biotin group. Following trypsin digestion, the resulting modified peptides were isolated using immobilized avidin. The mixture was analyzed by capillary reversed-phase liquid chromatography (LC) online with ion trap mass spectrometry (MS) as well as Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance (FTICR) MS. The resulting spectra contain numerous pairs of Cyspolypeptides whose mass difference corresponds to the number of nitrogen atoms present in each of the peptides. Designation of Cys-polypeptide pairs is also facilitated by the distinctive isotopic distribution of the 15N-labeled peptides versus their 14N-labeled counterparts. Studies with mouse B16 cells maintained in culture allowed the observation of hundreds of isotopically distinct pairs of peptides by LC-FTICR analysis. The ratios of the areas of the pairs of isotopically distinct peptides showed the expected 1:1 labeling of the 14N and 15N versions of each peptide. An additional benefit from the present strategy is that the 15N-labeled peptides do not display significant isotope-dependent chromatographic shifts from their 14N-labeled counterparts, therefore improving the precision for quantitating peptide abundances. The methodology presented offers an alternate, cost-effective strategy for conducting global, quantitative proteomic measurements. 相似文献

This paper describes the use of capillary electrophoresis (CE), and coupled CE and mass spectrometric techniques, to measure the values of the pKa of the amino groups of the aminoglycoside antibiotic amikacin and of its acetylated derivatives. These values of pKa (8.4, 6.7, 9.7, 8.4) were determined by measuring the electrophoretic mobilities of the molecules as a function of pH; they are within 0.7 unit of certain values reported in the literature (by 13C and 15N NMR spectroscopies) but resolved ambiguities left by these earlier studies. The range of values of pKa of amino groups also indicates the complex dependence of the acidity of a functional group (and thus the extent of ionization at a specified value of pH) on the molecular environment of that group. 相似文献

Two samples of macroporous poly(glycidyl methacrylate-co-ethylene glycol dimethacrylate), poly(GMA-co-EGDMA), were synthesized by suspension copolymerization and modified with amines. Initial poly(GMA-co-EGDMA), and the samples modified with ethylene diamine [poly(GMA-co-EGDMA)-en], diethylene triamine [poly(GMA-co-EGDMA)-deta] and triethylene tetramine [poly(GMA-co-EGDMA)-teta], were characterized by mercury porosimetry, FTIR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The most pronounced increase
of specific surface area (75%) was observed for poly(GMA-co-EGDMA)-teta sample with smaller particles (D < 150 μm). The Cu(II) sorption was rapid, depending on porosity of amino-functionalized samples and ligand type. For poly(GMA-co-EGDMA)-deta and poly(GMA-co-EGDMA)-teta sorption half time required to reach 50% of total sorption capacity, t

Sorption capacities for Cu(II), Co(II), Cd(II) and Ni(II) as well as for Cr(VI), Co(II), Cd(II) and Ni(II) ions were determined
under competitive conditions as a function of pH, ligand type and porosity at room temperature. The results indicate selectivity

We investigate the design of free-space optical interconnects (FSOIs) based on arrays of vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs), microlenses, and photodetectors. We explain the effect of the modal structure of a multimode VCSEL beam on the performance of a FSOI with microchannel architecture. A Gaussian-beam diffraction model is used in combination with the experimentally obtained spectrally resolved VCSEL beam profiles to determine the optical channel crosstalk and the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in the system. The dependence of the SNR on the feature parameters of a FSOI is investigated. We found that the presence of higher-order modes reduces the SNR and the maximum feasible interconnect distance. We also found that the positioning of a VCSEL array relative to the transmitter microlens has a significant impact on the SNR and the maximum feasible interconnect distance. Our analysis shows that the departure from the traditional confocal system yields several advantages including the extended interconnect distance and/or improved SNR. The results show that FSOIs based on multimode VCSELs can be efficiently utilized in both chip-level and board-level interconnects. 相似文献

A multichannel detection system having a dynamic range of approximately 1 x 10(-9) Gy --20 Gy was developed with the use of commercially produced Si-photodiodes and TLDs for accurate measurement of X ray energy emitted from plasma-focus facility and from laser-produced plasmas. The proof of linearity of the employed detectors accomplished by a comparison of their responses to a broad band spectrum of X rays emitted from plasmas, is reported. It is demonstrated that TLDs irradiated with no protective filter show an incorrect response due to overloading in the sub-keV range and repopulation of dosimetric peaks induced by the UV radiation. The measurement of the power of undesirable secondary X ray sources driven by the primary plasma inside the interaction chamber was performed on the basis of analysis of space dependence of X ray intensity with respect to the assumed r(-2) decrease in the intensity far away from the plasma. 相似文献

Nanocomposites consisting of self-assembled polyaniline (PANI) nanostructures and titania nanotubes (TiO2-NT) were synthesized by the oxidative polymerization of aniline with ammonium peroxydisulfate in an aqueous dispersion of TiO2-NT (outer diameter ~10 nm), without added acid. The influence of initial mole ratio of aniline to TiO2 (80, 20, and 5) on the morphology, electrical conductivity, molecular structure, crystallinity, and magnetic properties of synthesized PANI/TiO2 nanocomposites was studied. Transmission electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray powder diffraction proved that the shape and structure of TiO2-NT in the final nanocomposites were preserved. The shape of PANI nanostructures formed in the nanocomposites was influenced by the initial aniline/TiO2-NT mole ratio. Nanotubes and nanorods are predominant PANI nanostructures in the nanocomposite prepared with the highest aniline/TiO2 mol ratio of 80. The decrease of aniline/TiO2 molar ratio induced more pronounced formation of nanorod network. The electrical conductivity of PANI/TiO2 nanocomposites was in the range (1.3–2.4) × 10?3 S cm?1. The nanocomposites exhibit weak ferromagnetic behavior. This research was conducted on a sample of 840 respondents who represent half of the Croatian population of young scientists. There are three main features which define the publication productivity of young scientists. 1) Despite the worsened position of R & D, they publish more scientific papers than the young generations of scientists at the beginning of the nineties. 2) Differences between a highly-productive minority, which produces on average half of all scientific publications, and a low-productive majority is already apparent in young scientists. 3) The productivity of young scientists is formed according to productivity patterns typical of particular scientific fields and disciplines.With regard to the explanation of productivity, the following has been found. a) An expansion of the set of predictors resulted in an improvement in the explanation of the productivity of young scientists compared with previous surveys. b) Among the factors which contribute significantly to the explanation of the quantity of scientific publications, the most powerful predictor is attendance at conferences abroad, followed by scientific qualifications and some gatekeeping variables. c) Besides certain similarities, scientific fields also show a specific structure of determinants of young scientists' productivity. 相似文献
