Four mesocosms were exposed to circumneutral and aluminum (Al)-rich wastewater during two successive summers (2000, 2001). The goals of the study were to measure the bioaccumulation of dissolved Al by the aquatic plants Typha latifolia, Lemna minor, Nuphar variegatum and Potamogeton epihydrus, and to evaluate their importance in the retention of Al by the mesocosms. In 2000, inlet concentrations of total monomeric Al were reduced by 56% and 29% at the Arvida and Laterrière mesocosms, respectively, whereas in 2001 inlet dissolved Al concentrations in the inlet decreased by 40% and 33%. L. minor had the highest Al uptake rate (0.8--17 mg Al g(-1)d(-1)). However, because T. latifolia (cattails) yielded the highest biomass, it was responsible for 99% of the Al uptake, largely in its root tissue. In 2001, Al uptake by macrophytes accounted for 2--4% and 15--54% of the total Al retained by the Laterrière and Arvida mesocosms, respectively. In the Laterrière mesocosms, Al uptake by cattails could account for 12% and 18% of the dissolved Al retained by both mesocosms. In contrast, dissolved Al was not significantly reduced in the Arvida enclosures, yet cattails did accumulate Al in their roots. Further research is needed to identify the species community composition that would optimize dissolved Al retention.  相似文献

A prospective study was conducted on 25 Legionella pneumophila culture-positive and 98 culture-negative bronchoalveolar lavage fluid samples to compare two DNA preparation methods: a rapid modified Chelex-based protocol and a proteinase K method. PCR was found to be more sensitive with the Chelex-based method (P = 0.03). N difference was found concerning the inhibition rate.  相似文献

Combinations of the discrete neutral allyl ansa‐lanthanidocenes {Me2C(Cp)(Flu)}Nd[1,3‐ (SiMe3)2C3H3] and rac‐{Me2C(Ind)2}Y[1,3‐ (SiMe3)2C3H3] with di(n‐butyl)magnesium constitute efficient binary catalytic systems for the stereocontrolled coordinative chain transfer polymerization of styrene, yielding near‐perfect syndio‐ and isospecific polystyrenes, respectively, with high activities and productivities. By adjusting the amount of di(n‐butyl)magnesium, up to 200 polymer chains can be generated per lanthabide center, and good control of the molecular weight features enables the tailoring of low to medium molecular weight polymers.  相似文献

This paper presents the insulated TO-220AB TRIAC package aging when these devices are subjected to experimental power cycling test with various case temperature swings (ΔTcase). This study includes reliability tests set-up, results and failure analysis. An innovative failure analysis flow is proposed to identify the failure mechanism implied. This new failure analysis process flow is necessary due to the complex stack of these devices. Finally, thanks to the reliability tests and the complete failure analysis results, the thermal resistance (Rth) change is correlated to the physical defect modification. This whole study gives the first data collection that is required to propose a lifetime prediction model for insulated TO-220AB TRIAC package during power cycling accelerated aging tests.  相似文献

To probe the interactions between major histocompatibility class-II molecules and the amide bonds of the antigenic peptide main chain, we synthesized ethylenic and reduced analogues of HEL(52-61), an immunogenic peptide for murine major histocompatibility class-II IA k restricted T-cell clones. The synthesis of the corresponding ethylenic analogue of HEL(52-61) in position 53-54 was performed by coupling the Fmoc-protected tripeptide Asp-Tyr-psi [E, CH = CH]Gly with HEL(55-61). Biological tests showed that the ethylenic peptide was presented by major histocompatibility class-II IA kappa molecule and recognized by HEL(52-61)-specific T-cell clones. The corresponding reduced peptide of HEL(52-61) at position 53-54 neither stimulated T-cell clones nor competed with the natural peptide. These results show that, while reduced pseudopeptides might not be appropriate, ethylenic pseudopeptides may be used as probes to dissect the role of hydrogen bonding between the peptide main chain and MHC residues and also help in the design of more stable immunogenic peptides.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine electroencephalographic (EEG) changes occurring during syncope induced by headup tilt table testing. DESIGN: Prospective observational study. SETTING: Calgary General Hospital Syncope Clinic, Calgary, Alberta. PATIENTS: Eighteen patients with a history of recurrent syncope who developed syncope while undergoing diagnostic isoproterenol tilt table testing. INTERVENTIONS: Continuous EEGs were recorded in 18 sequentially consenting patients while they underwent diagnostic headup tilt table testing. MAIN RESULTS: Patients developed presyncope after 2.6 +/- 2.4 mins and syncope after 3.7 +/- 2.5 minutes. Systolic blood pressure dropped from 117 +/- 17 mmHg to 65 +/- 9 mmHg, and heart rate dropped from 124 +/- 26 beats/min to 65 +/- 27 beats/min. Fourteen patients developed presyncope, while five developed syncope without appreciable presyncope. Abnormal EEGs were recorded in 13 of 14 patients during presyncope and in 18 of 18 patients during syncope. No patients developed EEG abnormalities before the onset of presyncope, and the proportion of patients with EEG abnormalities gradually increased throughout presyncope. During presyncope, theta and delta wave slowing, and background suppression were noted in eight of 14, nine of 14 and one of 14 patients, respectively. During syncope, theta and delta wave slowing, and background suppression were noted in nine of 18, 11 of 18 and six of 18 patients, respectively (not significant versus presyncope). There were strikingly abrupt changes in the EEG rhythm within 15 s of the transition to syncope in 14 of 18 patients. Six patients developed new theta wave slowing, 11 developed new delta wave slowing, and seven developed background suppression. No epileptiform activity was recorded. CONCLUSIONS: Both presyncope and syncope induced by tilt testing are associated with EEG abnormalities, and no single EEG pattern is pathognomonic of either. The transition from presyncope to syncope is marked by abrupt EEG changes.  相似文献

We have used a first-order reflectron lens in an optical tomographic atom probe in order to improve the mass resolution. Calculations have been performed to determine the effect of second-order errors in ion energy and incidence angle on the performance of the lens. By applying a correction procedure based on the results of these calculations, we have been able to improve experimental mass resolution by 30%.  相似文献

If the sampling process provides the same probability for all particles of a bulk material stream to get into the sample, the total sample variance is affected only by random errors. In this case the rules of mathematical statistics apply and thus the certainty can be specified to which the deviation of the mean from the true value lies between given limits. The subset of bulk material is said to be representative for the total stream with regard to the property in view. If the sample shall proof, whether the agreed variation limits in a contract are fulfilled respectively the deviation between the sample mean and the true value lies within given limits of confidence, the sample mass and the number of single samples have to be adjusted to the characteristics of the stream. According to the sampling theory introduced by Prof. H. J. Steiner at the Institute of Mineral Processing, the sampling relevant characteristics of the particulate stream, namely the small scale inhomogeneity “I” and the large scale variability “Ssi”, allow to suit the sample size to the sampling objective. The paper explains the meaning of the stream related invariants and provides strategies to quantify these figures. Examples extracted from the author’s work in elaborating the sample size in sand and gravel respectively cement and steel industry illustrate the theory.  相似文献
