Reports on the donation of her husband's library by Millicent Todd Bingham to the Department of Psychology at the University of Oslo, Norway. During the German occupation the library belonging to the Department of Psychology in Oslo was nearly all lost. The Bingham collection (close to 600 volumes plus periodicals) gives a picture of Walter Bingham's wide interests in the field of psychology and its classical works. This generous and invaluable gift will make studies richer and the work more fruitful among Norwegian psychologists both in the present and in generations to come. Tumour cell nuclei display achromasia in smears relative to methylene blue and to other low-affinitive ionic dyes. In the course of the smear air-drying the tumour DNA undergoes conformational changes as evidenced by enhanced ethidium and monomer acridine orange uptake and increased sensitivity to DNAse I hydrolysis. Very mild treatment with bleomycin prevents nuclear achromasia with methylene blue in tumour cells. It is concluded that the phenomenon of nuclear achromasia of tumour cells is due to the properties of secondary structure of their DNA.  相似文献

Thermolysis of [TiMe25-C5Me4Ph)2] (4) at 145 °C for 5 h afforded the singly tucked-in paramagnetic titanocene [Ti(III)(η5-C5Me4Ph){η51-C5Me3Ph(CH2)}] (9). The new half‐sandwich scorpionate complexes [hydridotris(1‐pyrazolyl)methane]vanadium trichloride, ([VCl3{HC(pz)3}] 1 (pz=pyrazolyl), [tris(1‐pyrazolyl)methanesulfonate]vanadium trichloride, [VCl3{SO3C(pz)3}] 2 , [hydrido(1‐pyrazolyl)methane]iron dichloride, [FeCl2{HC(pz)3}] 3 , lithium [tris(1‐pyrazolyl)methanesulfonate]dichloroferrate, Li[FeCl2{SO3C(pz)3}] 4 , and [tris(1‐pyrazolyl)methanesulfonate]copper chloride, [CuCl{SO3C(pz)3}] 5 were synthesized, characterized and shown to act, as well as the related (tripyrazolylmethane)copper dichloride, [CuCl2{HC(pz)3}] 6 , as selective catalysts (or catalyst precursors) for the peroxidative oxidation (with hydrogen peroxide) of cyclohexane to cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone, under mild conditions (at room temperature and using an aqueous solution of H2O2). The iron complexes are the most active ones (reaching TON values up to ca. 690), the effects of a variety of factors are reported and the reaction is shown to proceed via both C‐ and O‐centred radical mechanisms, conceivably involving a metal‐based oxidant.  相似文献

Flavonoids are important in plant interactions with the environment and may have positive effects on human health. Effects of light quality and quantity on flavonoid concentration were studied in baby spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.) cultivated under three types of shade netting differing in transmittance of UV‐B and PAR, at two times during the season. Leaves harvested at two growth stages for each sowing were subjected to different post‐harvest storage conditions. Shade nettings had a relatively small effect on flavonoid concentration in baby spinach. The largest effect was found when radiation was most intense. The nettings then decreased total flavonoid concentration by 15–24% at the normal commercial growth stage at harvest. Radiation and plant growth both affected flavonoid concentration, in opposite or similar directions depending on time of season. This variation was reflected in the statistical analysis, showing significant interactions among the factors. There were large differences (up to 100%) in flavonoid concentration between the different times of the season, in shaded as well as unshaded spinach. Flavonoid concentration and composition changed during storage, but no consistent difference was found between the shaded and unshaded leaves. In most cases, total flavonoid concentration increased significantly during the first 6 days of storage. In conclusion, the use of shade netting is acceptable for production of baby spinach as regards flavonoid concentration and composition. Copyright © 2007 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献
