The aim of this work is to study laminar mixed convection heat transfer characteristics within an obstructed enclosure by using the Lattice Boltzmann method. Flow is driven by a top cold lid while other walls are stationary and adiabatic. Hot cylinders are located at different places inside the cavity to explore the best arrangement. Comparison of streamlines, isotherms, average Nusselt number are presented to evaluate the influence of Richardson number and location of cylinders on flow field and heat transfer. Results indicate that heat transfer decreases with a rise of Richardson number for all considered arrays of cylinders. Among them, horizontally‐located cylinders at the top of the cavity have the greatest heat transfer at all Richardson numbers. Horizontally located cylinders at the bottom of the cavity have the lowest heat transfer at Richardson numbers of 0.1 and 1 while the lowest heat transfer rate belongs to cross diagonal located cylinders at a Richardson number of 10.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Quality control of geometric shape deviation in additive manufacturing relies on statistical deviation models. However, resource constraints limit the manufacture of test shapes, and consequently impede the specification of deviation models for new shape varieties. We present an adaptive Bayesian methodology that effectively combines in-plane deviation data and models for a small sample of previously manufactured, disparate shapes to aid in the model specification of in-plane deviation for a broad class of new shapes. The power and simplicity of this general methodology is demonstrated with illustrative case studies on in-plane deviation modeling for polygons and straight edges in free-form shapes using only data and models for cylinders and a single regular pentagon. Our Bayesian approach facilitates deviation modeling in general, and thereby can help advance additive manufacturing as a high-quality technology. The rapidly increasing electricity demand for data center operation has motivated efforts to better understand current data center energy use and to identify strategies that reduce the environmental impact of these buildings. This paper builds on previous data center energy modeling efforts by characterizing local climate and mechanical equipment differences among data centers and then evaluating their consequences for building energy use. Cities in the United States with significant data center activity are identified. Representative climate conditions for these cities are applied to data center energy models for several different prototypical space types. Results indicate that widespread, effective economizer use in data centers could reduce energy demand for data centers by about 20–25%, equivalent to an energy efficiency resource in the US of ∼13–17 billion kWh per year. Almost half of the potential savings would result from better airflow management and proper control sequences. The total energy savings potential of economizers, although substantial, is constrained by their limited potential for use in server closets and server rooms, which together are estimated to account for about 30% of all data center energy demand. Incorporating economizer use into the mechanical systems of larger data centers would increase the variation in energy efficiency among geographic regions, indicating that as data center buildings become more energy efficient, their locations will have an increasing effect on overall energy demand. Differences among regions become even more important when accounting for greenhouse-gas emissions. Future data center development could consider site location, along with efficiency measures, to limit the environmental impact attributable to this increasingly prominent economic sector.  相似文献

Methane and hydrogen-enriched (25 vol% and 50 vol% H2-enriched CH4) methane/air premixed flames were investigated in a gas turbine model combustor under atmospheric conditions. The flame operability ranges were mapped at different Reynold numbers (Re), showing the dependence on Re and H2 concentrations. The effects of equivalence ratio (Φ), Re, and H2 enrichment on flame structure were examined employing OH-PLIF measurement. For CH4/air cases, the flame was stabilized with an M shape; while for H2-enriched cases, the flame transitions to a П shape above a specific Φ. This transition was observed to influence significantly the flashback limits. The flame shape transition is most likely a result of H2 enrichment, occurring due to the increase in flame speed, higher resistance of the flame to the strain rate, and change in the inner recirculation zone. Flow fields of CH4/air flames were compared between low and high Re cases employing high-speed PIV. The flashback events, led by two mechanisms (combustion-induced vortex breakdown, CIVB, and boundary-layer flashback, BLF), were observed and recorded using high-speed OH chemiluminescence imaging. It was found that the CIVB flashback occurred only for CH4 flames with M shape, whereas the BLF occurs for all H2-enriched flames with П shape.  相似文献

In this study, free radical copolymerization of acrylonitrile (AN)–vinyl acetate (VAc) was performed for five different feed ratio of VAc (wt %) by using ammonium persulfate (APS) in the aqueous medium. The effect of VAc content on the spectrophotometric and thermal properties of AN–VAc copolymers was investigated by Fourier Transform Infrared–Attenuated Total Reflectance spectrophotometer (FTIR–ATR), differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), and thermal gravimetric analyzer (TGA). Thermal stability of homopolymer of AN is improved after being copolymerized. The electrospun P(AN‐co‐VAc) nanofibers were fabricated and the effect of VAc content on the morphologic properties of nanofibers was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The viscosity of the solution had a significant effect on P(AN‐co‐VAc) electrospinning and the nanofiber morphology. The average diameters of P(AN‐co‐VAc) nanofibers decreased 3.4 times with increasing feed ratio of VAc wt %. The P(AN‐co‐VAc) electrospun nanofiber mats, with the feed ratio of 30 wt % VAc, can be used as a nanofiber membrane in filtration and as a carbon nanofiber precursor for energy storage applications due to high surface to volume ratio, high thermal stability, homogeneous, and thinner nanofiber distribution. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Consideration is given to shear‐rate‐dependent rheology effects on mass transport in a heterogeneous microreactor of rectangular cross section, utilizing both numerical and analytical approaches. The carrier liquid obeys the power‐law viscosity model and is actuated primarily by an electrokinetic pumping mechanism. It is discovered that, considering the shear‐thinning biofluids to be Newtonian fluids gives rise to an overestimation of the saturation time. The degree of overestimation is higher in the presence of large Damkohler numbers and electric double layer thicknesses. It is also increased by the application of a favorable pressure gradient, whereas the opposite is true when an opposed pressure gradient is applied. In addition, a channel of square cross section corresponds to the maximum fluid rheology effects. Finally, the numerical results indicate the existence of a concentration wave when using long channels. A mathematical linear programming (LP) model was developed to optimize the decision-making for managing a cogeneration facility as a potential clean-development mechanism project in a hospital in Palestine. The model was developed to optimize the cost of energy and the cost of installation of a small cogeneration plant under constraints on electricity-and-heat supply and demand balances. In the model, the sources of electricity are either from cogeneration or public utilities and it was calculated the least cost to supply electricity and heat to the hospital. The hospital is using heat for their operation and that made the application for the cogeneration to be attractive and feasible. In this study, we will develop the LP model and will show the results and the time schedule for the cogeneration. This developed LP model can be used and run to any cogeneration application with little modification.  相似文献
