Abstract— Models for predicting scatter bands due to bending have been applied to four alloys, namely AISI 316L, Nimonic 101, 9 Cr-1 Mo, and IN 718. The alloys were tested extensively by 26 laboratories in an international round robin exercise sponsored by the Community Bureau of Reference (BCR) of the EC. After initially selecting data for analysis on the basis of their confirmed conformance to the ASTM bending criterion, it has been shown that in all four materials a major fraction of the data scatter could be attributed to bending. Furthermore, at the lowest strain range the predicted bending component represents the highest proportion of the experimental interlaboratory scatter. Many laboratories did not report any measure of bending and so could not be used in the initial analysis. However, a further interesting deduction from the models is that the entire BCR data-set can be encompassed within a scatter band based upon a bending criterion that is twice the allowable ASTM limit. Differences in the extent of scatter between materials at a given total strain range can be attributed to the gradient of the logarithmic plot of total strain range as a function of lifetime.  相似文献

Transgenic Tyr-SV40E mice previously produced on the C57BL/6 inbred-strain background, with SV40 oncogenic sequences specifically expressed in pigment cells, are predisposed to melanoma [Bradl, M., Klein-Szanto, A., Porter, S. & Mintz, B. (1991). Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA, 88, 164-168]. Separate lines of these animals differ genetically only in the number of copies and chromosomal site of integration of the transgene. Skin melanocytes from young mice with no apparent skin lesions were established in continuous culture from hemizygous donors with low, medium and high numbers of transgene copies, and from a homozygous offspring of the low-copy mouse line. The standard culture conditions enable C57BL/6 wild-type melanocytes to become stably immortalized without transformation. The transgenic cell lines all changed over time in an orderly progression. However, with greater numbers of transgene copies, the cells more rapidly displayed shorter doubling times, increased anchorage independence, reduced serum and growth factor requirements, decreased tyrosinase expression and melanin content, increased oncogene expression, and capacity to form malignant melanomas when tested by grafting. Melanocytes with the lowest number of transgene copies were of special interest. They grew more rapidly than the wild-type cells from the outset, but did not become tumorigenic until an apparently small number of still-unknown genetic changes had spontaneously occurred, or until the number of transgene copies was increased slightly by homozygosity. In contrast to the hemizygous low-copy cells, the homozygous counterparts underwent striking and rapid transformational changes and early conversion to malignancy. Thus such low-copy transgenic melanocyte lines afford an exceptional opportunity for molecular analysis of somatic genetic evolution toward malignant melanoma.  相似文献

Based on this premise, the total VAr loss is minimized in the unified OPF framework considering real and reactive power controllers, and its effect on VSM is studied. Direct conversion receivers are increasingly popular for use in mobile terminals. This is due to advantages over other architectures such as heterodyne receivers in terms of cost, electrical current, and physical size. However, a direct conversion receiver often generates a DC-offset that has to be taken care of either by suppressing the DC-offset in the radio-frequency part of the receiver, or by taking care of it during baseband processing. A theoretical analysis of the bit error rate (BER) performance in a direct conversion receiver with different levels of DC-offset suppression is presented. Explicit results are presented on how the BER depends on the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), the signal-to-DC-level, and the choice of pilot symbols both with M-QAM and M-PSK in a slow, flat Rayleigh fading channel. A design rule, which applies to the design of DC-compensation in direct conversion receivers, is also presented  相似文献

A photovaractor for the remote optical control of microwave circuits was studied. The photovaractor was fabricated as a p-i-n photodiode placed in a pigtailed fiber optical module. The study of the impedance in the frequency range up to 3 GHz in darkness and under illumination has shown that the photovaractor capacitance strongly depends on the incident optical power. Experiments were performed for comparative assessment of the effect of ionizing radiation on the service characteristics of 30% TBP solutions in various diluents: hexachlorobutadiene (HCBD), mixtures of n-paraffins (RED diluent), and fraction of naphthenic hydrocarbons (RZh diluent). The following main parameters were chosen for comparative assessment of the quality of irradiated extractant solutions: composition and behavior of diluent radiolysis products, effect of diluents on the TBP radiolysis, and aggregative stability of emulsions in the main operations of the extraction cycle. The service life of the extraction mixtures was estimated from variation of the above parameters with the irradiation dose. Principles for choosing solvents with increased service life under irradiation were substantiated.  相似文献

Symptom-limited, graded exercise treadmill testing was performed by 4,968 white and black adults, ages 18-30 yr, during the baseline examination for the Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults (CARDIA) study. Compared with nonsmokers, the mean exercise test duration of smokers was 29-64 s shorter depending on race/gender group (all P < 0.001), but mean duration to heart rate 130 (beats.min-1) ranged from 20-50 s longer (P < 0.05). In each race/gender group, test duration to heart rates up to 150 was 15-35 s longer (P < 0.05) in smokers than in nonsmokers after adjustment for age, sum of skinfolds, hemoglobin, and physical activity score. The mean maximum heart rate was lower in smokers than in nonsmokers (difference ranging from 6.7 beats.min-1 in white men to 11.2 beats.min-1 lower in black women, P < 0.001), although maximum rating of perceived exertion was nearly identical in smokers and nonsmokers. Chronic smoking appears to blunt the heart rate response to exercise, so that exercise duration to submaximal heart rates is increased even though maximal performance is impaired. This may result from downloading of beta-receptors caused by smoking. Smoking status should be considered in the evaluation of physical fitness data utilizing submaximal test protocols, or else the fitness of smokers relative to nonsmokers is likely to be overestimated.  相似文献

Fiske et al (see record 1992-07509-001) praising the American Psychological Association's (APA's) amicus brief intended to inform the Supreme Court of current scientific thinking regarding gender stereotyping. A balanced perspective, it is argued, should include both research supporting an argument and findings that are inconsistent with that argument. The APA brief gave no indication of contradictory findings. Moreover, review of the research cited indicates that more than half of the studies do not support the argument for which they were cited. The numerical modelling of metal matrix composites is an important part of the research now being conducted on these materials. Due to the numerical complexity of a fully three-dimensional analysis, two-dimensional approximations are normally used with finite element methods. While these analyses are informative, they cannot treat complex particle shapes or examine three-dimensional effects in the composite. The use of boundary element methods in place of the more widely used finite element methods significantly reduces the computing power necessary to obtain a solution to a given problem, making it possible to simulate fully three-dimensional geometries. In the present paper a two-dimensional form of the BEM is applied to the study of metal matrix composite materials, and its performance compared with that of similar FEM stadies. We also compare the predicted composite properties with existing and new experimental results. We conclude that the BEM is an effective tool for the analysis of this class of problems.  相似文献
