Chemical oxidative polymerization of aniline using peroxydisulfate oxidant in aqueous pH 2.5–10.0 buffers yields electrically insulating brown powders that are believed to be mixtures of Michael-type adducts of benzoquinone monoimine and aniline at various stages of hydrolysis. A spectroscopically similar product is formed when solid 1,4-benzoquinone is added to an aqueous solution of aniline at room temperature in the absence of peroxydisulfate. This suggests that the peroxydisulfate oxidant in the aniline/S2O82? system provides a pathway for the formation of benzoquinone monoimine as an intermediate. Benzoquinone monoimine intermediate could be formed as a result of a Boyland–Sims rearrangement of aniline proceeding via the intermediacy of p-aminophenyl sulfate. Benzoquinone monoimine undergoes a series of conjugate 1,4-Michael-type addition/reoxidation/coupling steps with aniline or p-aminophenyl sulfate yielding the oligoaniline product. The precipitate that is isolated is also in the midst of two simultaneous pH dependent hydrolysis reactions: (i) hydrolysis of the imine groups to quinone, and (ii) hydrolysis of arylsulfates to phenols. The ratio of hydrolysis in each case was determined by the C/N ratio and sulfur elemental analysis values yielding analytical data that is consistent with experimentally determined values and also with our proposed reaction scheme. These findings offer a rationale for the high C/N ratios (>6.0) frequently observed in these systems while tracing the genesis of the residual sulfur in the product to unhydrolyzed arylsulfate. The oligoaniline product has previously been reported to have a novel poly-aza structure consisting of continuously linked –N–N–N– bonds, and alternately also reported to consist of phenazine-type linkages. This study is consistent with the latter and describes a pathway to phenazine coupling through a second and third stage hydrolysis of the arylsulfate and reoxidation with peroxydisulfate. There is no pathway for the formation of linear –N–N–N– linkages in the aniline/benzoquinone adduct and the striking similarity between its spectroscopic properties and the aniline/S2O82? adduct suggests that it is not a preferred pathway under these experimental conditions.  相似文献

Background  

Intermittent bouts of high-intensity exercise result in diminished stores of energy substrates, followed by an accumulation of metabolites, promoting chronic physiological adaptations. In addition, β-alanine has been accepted has an effective physiological hydrogen ion (H+) buffer. Concurrent high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and β-alanine supplementation may result in greater adaptations than HIIT alone. The purpose of the current study was to evaluate the effects of combining β-alanine supplementation with high-intensity interval training (HIIT) on endurance performance and aerobic metabolism in recreationally active college-aged men.  相似文献

High-intensity interval training has been shown to be a time-efficient way to induce physiological adaptations similar to those of traditional endurance training. Creatine supplementation may enhance high-intensity interval training, leading to even greater physiological adaptations. In Bacillus transformation, sexual isolation is known to be an exponential function of the sequence divergence between donor and recipient. Here, we have investigated the mechanism under which sequence divergence results in sexual isolation. We tested the effect of mismatch repair by comparing a wild-type strain and an isogenic mismatch-repair mutant for the relationship between sexual isolation and sequence divergence. Mismatch repair was shown to contribute to sexual isolation but was responsible for only a small fraction of the sexual isolation observed. Another possible mechanism of sexual isolation is that more divergent recipient and donor DNA strands have greater difficulty forming a heteroduplex because a region of perfect identity between donor and recipient is required for initiation of the heteroduplex. A mathematical model showed that this heteroduplex-resistance mechanism yields an exponential relationship between sexual isolation and sequence divergence. Moreover, this model yields an estimate of the size of the region of perfect identity that is comparable to independent estimates for Escherichia coli. For these reasons, and because all other mechanisms of sexual isolation may be ruled out, we conclude that resistance to heteroduplex formation is predominantly responsible for the exponential relationship between sexual isolation and sequence divergence in Bacillus transformation.  相似文献

The small Ras-related GTPase Ran is directly involved in nuclear protein import and export. However, the question of how Ran functions in transport is highly controversial. Here, we suggest that Ran is important for the formation, vectorial movement and disassembly of many different classes of transport complexes that traverse the nuclear pore complex during import and export processes. Comparison of Ran with the translation elongation factor Ef-Tu raises the possibility that Ran might also be involved in a proofreading function related to the assembly of import complexes. Although aspects of this model are hypothetical and challenge some current dogma in the field, we believe that it can integrate most of the current data into a coherent picture of the import process.  相似文献

This report provides an overview of the criminal forensic mental health system in Great Britain, that is England and Wales. The report is based on the author's participant observation as a visiting consultant psychiatrist at a regional forensic facility in Manchester, England during early 1994. British law casts a net over a wider population of forensic patients than does U.S. law. There is a forensic care system in the British National Health Service that is parallel to and independent of the general psychiatric care system. The forensic system provides continuity of care from prison through maximum security hospitals to regional medium secure facilities, and finally, into the community. Community care is provided by psychiatrists and social workers and, if necessary, by psychiatric nurses. This system appears to provide effective treatment for persons with major mental disorders and histories of violence. Differences between Britain and the United States in philosophy of government, in law, and in forensic training and practice are discussed. The fundamental difference is a greater British belief in the capacity of government to act in the best interests of the individual. Current problems in the British health care system and plans to privatize some services are also discussed.  相似文献
