本文通过对典型爱尔兰城镇结构尺度变迁的研究，找出地块与街廓形态的整体系统，并探寻这些系统在功能扩展弹性上的未来发展趋势。     

Induced structural damages by He irradiation in conducting transparent indium–tin oxide thin films

Irradiation of polycrystalline sputter-deposited ITO thin films on float-glass substrates was performed with high-energy MeV He⁺ ion beam implantation at doses in the range 2–6×10⁺¹⁵ ions/cm². A significant change in both surface morphology and crystallographic structure after implantation was observed. It results in a crystallographic disorder of large crystallites with the ion dose, creation of electronic defects and a roughening of the ITO thin-films’ surface.     

Transition from quality circles to total involvement in semiconductor manufacturing

Eight years of experience with quality circles has shown a progression toward the achievement of total quality. Significant positive results have led to the evolution from a voluntary programme to the implementation of a non-voluntary programme that includes functional supervisors. Each team meets for an hour per week during normal work hours as an integral part of the job. Over 83 per cent of manufacturing and support groups employee participation has been recorded to date and at present 62 teams are functioning. This article will present the details of this programme's progress towards quality excellence.     

CHARACTERISATION OF CYCLIC AND ACYCLIC ALKANES CHARACTERISATION OF CYCLIC AND ACYCLIC ALKANES IN FORTIES AND KUWAIT PETROLEUM CRUDES

Alkane hydrocarbon fractions from Forties (North Sea) and Kuwait petroleum crudes, separated by distillation, solvent extraction and silica-gel column chromatography and sub-fractionated by molecular-sieve adsorption, have been examined by gas chromatography (GC) ¹H and ¹³C ( NMR spectroscopy, GC-mass spectrometry (MS) and field desorption (FD)MS. GC indicates that Forties contains rather more acyclic isoprenoids and cyclic alkanes than Kuwait; FDMS of Kuwait shows molecular-weight ranges for mono-, di-, tri-, tetra- and pentacyclic alkanes. ¹³C NMR spectra provide evidence of higher aromatic carbon, C_A, in Forties than Kuwait and longer T₁ relaxation times.

Large-Deformation Strength Analysis of Chemically Strengthened Glass Disks

A large-deformation stress analysis of a ring-on-ring bending fracture test, using the finite-element method, was used to derive the strength of chemically strengthened and nonstrengthened glass disks from experimental test data. Agreement between measured and predicted disk deflections was very good. The predicted strength data were analyzed using Weibull statistics.     

Tailored-gain broad-area semiconductor laser with single-lobed diffraction-limited far-field pattern

We demonstrate a 60 ?m-wide asymmetric tailored-gain broad-area semiconductor laser with a single-lobed diffraction-limited far-field pattern 2.5° wide. The method used to achieve gain tailoring may be used to create nearly arbitrary two-dimensional spatial gain distributions within a broad-area laser.
