In-vivo human brain molecular imaging with a brain-dedicated PET/MRI system

Advances in the new-generation of ultra-high-resolution, brain-dedicated positron emission tomography-magnetic resonance imaging (PET/MRI) systems have begun to provide many interesting insights into the molecular dynamics of the brain. First, the finely delineated structural information from ultra-high-field MRI can help us to identify accurate landmark structures, thereby making it easier to locate PET activation sites that are anatomically well-correlated with metabolic or ligand-specific organs in the neural structures in the brain. This synergistic potential of PET/MRI imaging is discussed in terms of neuroscience and neurological research from both translational and basic research perspectives. Experimental results from the hippocampus, thalamus, and brainstem obtained with ¹⁸F-fluorodeoxyglucose and ¹¹C-3-amino-4-(2-dimethylaminomethylphenylsulfanyl)benzonitrile are used to demonstrate the potential of this new brain PET/MRI system.

A dual-band reconfigurable direct-conversion receiver RF front-end

6 dBm at 2.2 GHz, and a gain of 18.8 dB and IIP3 of 7.3 dBm at 4.5 GHz. The whole front-end consumes 12 mA current at 1.2 V voltage supply for the LNA and 2.1 mA current at 1.8 V for the mixer, with a die area of 1.2 × 1 mm2.     

MODIFIED MULTIPLE ONE-DIMENSIONAL ADAPTIVE GRID METHOD

Shyy's multiple one-dimensional adaptive grid method is modified to improve the grid skewness. A test problem of steady isotropic heat conduction illustrates that both the grid distortion and the accuracy of temperature distribution are improved significantly.     

Method for Detecting Multi-modal Vibration Characteristics of Landmines

The acoustic vibration characteristics of landmines are investigated by means of modal analysis. According to the mechanical structure of landmines, a certain number of points are marked on the landmine shell to analyze its multi-modal vibration characteristics, based on laser self-mixing interferometer and taking 69 plastic landmine as an example, the vibration detection experiment system is built to show the results of analytical method of multi-modal testing. The first and second order natural frequencies of the bricks are 38 HZ and 106 HZ, 112HZ and 232HZ for plastic landmines, and 74HZ and 290HZ for metal landmines. The first and second order natural frequencies of the bricks are far smaller than those of plastic landmines and metal landmines. This indicates that landmines show multi-modal vibration characteristics under external excitation, which are significantly different from those of bricks. The findings can be used for further research on acoustic landmines detection technology.     

Effects of rice koji inoculated with Aspergillus luchuensis on the biochemical and sensory properties of a sailfin sandfish (Arctoscopus japonicus) fish sauce

The effects of rice koji inoculated with Aspergillus luchuensis on the biochemical and sensory properties of fish sauce produced from sailfin sandfish (Arctoscopus japonicus) with different salt concentrations (10% and 20%) were investigated over 10 months. Fish sauces prepared from sailfin sandfish with rice koji and a low salt concentration had higher total nitrogen, amino nitrogen and total free amino acid than did those without rice koji or with a high salt concentration. Sensory evaluation of fish sauces prepared with rice koji and a low salt concentration found better taste, flavour and overall acceptance than those prepared without rice koji during fermentation (P < 0.05). The use of rice koji increased the total nitrogen, amino nitrogen and free amino acid and also enhanced the sensory qualities during fermentation. These results suggest that the use of rice koji can result in a low‐salt fish sauce with better flavour.     

Flexible Transparent ZnO:Al/ZnO/CuAlO x :Ca Heterojunction Diodes on Polyethylene Terephthalate Substrates

Transparent flexible n ⁺-ZnO:Al (100 nm)/n-ZnO (40 nm)/p-CuAlO _x :Ca (100 nm, 200 nm, 300 nm) diodes were fabricated on polyethylene terephthalate substrates at room temperature using a sputtering technique. No additional heat treatment was performed on the fabricated devices. Increase of the diode layer thickness reduced the on-current and leakage-current levels simultaneously, which led the rectification ratio to first increase and then decrease as the p-layer thickness increased. The ultraviolet (UV) response of the diode was also investigated under irradiation at 365 nm. The n ⁺-ZnO:Al (100 nm)/n-ZnO (40 nm)/p-CuAlO _x :Ca (200 nm) diode exhibited photocurrent/leakage current ratio of 1.03 × 10³ and responsivity of 0.64 A/W at reverse bias of ?6 V when measured in flat status. The corresponding photocurrent/leakage current ratio and responsivity were 7.99 × 10² and 0.65 A/W, respectively, for an outwardly bent diode with 5.5 cm radius of curvature. The increases of current levels under bending are attributed to the decreases of series resistance for the diode under tensile strain.
