Penal product liability of calculation engineers Calculation engineers bear notable responsibility for their professional actions. The scale of the operations and penal product liability of the individual engineer derived from that, depends on the particular industry, task profile as well as the concrete kind of activity. Still, most calculation engineers are not distinctly aware of the extent of responsibility they take over. Besides the technical risks, judicial ones connected to potentially created damage exist. These risks include the non‐insurable warranty, civil liability in cases of personal, material and financial damages as well as penal consequences in the event of physical injury and death in particular. The hall collapses in Swiss' Uster (1985), Bad Reichenhall (2006) and St. Gallen (2010), the crashing oil platform Sleipner A (1991) as well as the fatal ICE accident in Eschede (1998) revealed this judicial risk. This article is supposed to give an overview of the penal consequences for calculation engineers and is thus addressed to freelance engineers as well as enterprises and engineers that perform calculation services as part of their corporate‐internal product development. 相似文献

In a previous study, three infertility-relevant epitopes of possum ZP2 (Pep12 (amino acids 111-125), Pep31 (amino acids 301-315), and Pep44 (amino acids 431-445)) were identified using sera from possums (Trichosurus vulpecula) immunized with recombinant possum zona pellucida 2 (ZP2) constructs, and a synthetic peptide library of possum ZP2 protein. In this study, the three peptides were conjugated to keyhole limpet hemocyanin and 300 mug of each conjugated peptide were administered subcutaneously to female possums (n = 20 per peptide) in complete Freund's adjuvant. Immunogen doses were repeated 3 and 6 weeks later using incomplete Freund's adjuvant. Control animals were immunized with either phosphate-buffered saline only (n = 10) or 300 mug keyhole limpet hemocyanin (n = 10), administered with the same adjuvants. Serum antibodies from animals immunized against these three epitopes bound to the corresponding possum ZP2 peptides, recombinant possum ZP2 protein constructs, and native zona. Possum fertility was assessed following superovulation and artificial insemination. Peptides Pep12 and Pep31 had no significant effects on fertility parameters (P > 0.05). However, animals immunized with Pep44 had lower egg fertilization rates (immunized 19.5% versus control 60.5%, P < 0.05) and produced significantly fewer embryos than control animals (immunized 0.5 embryos versus control 2.4 embryos, P < 0.05). The number of Pep44-immunized females that produced embryos was reduced by 64%. Identification and characterization of possum infertility-relevant epitopes on possum ZP2 protein will assist development of safe, humane, and possum-specific immunocontraceptive vaccines for controlling the introduced possums in New Zealand. 相似文献

In the present work we show how different oxygen (O) and carbon (C) levels affect fatigue lives of pseudoelastic NiTi shape memory alloys. We compare three alloys, one with an ultrahigh purity and two which contain the maximum accepted levels of C and O. We use bending rotation fatigue (up to cycle numbers >108) and scanning electron microscopy (for investigating microstructural details of crack initiation and growth) to study fatigue behavior. High cycle fatigue (HCF) life is governed by the number of cycles required for crack initiation. In the low cycle fatigue (LCF) regime, the high-purity alloy outperforms the materials with higher number densities of carbides and oxides. In the HCF regime, on the other hand, the high-purity and C-containing alloys show higher fatigue lives than the alloy with oxide particles. There is high experimental scatter in the HCF regime where fatigue cracks preferentially nucleate at particle/void assemblies (PVAs) which form during processing. Cyclic crack growth follows the Paris law and does not depend on impurity levels. While the growth of business-to-consumer electronic commerce seems phenomenal in recent years, several studies suggest that a large number of individuals using the Internet have serious privacy concerns, and that winning public trust is the primary hurdle to continued growth in e-commerce. This research investigated the relative importance, when purchasing goods and services over the Web, of four common trust indices (i.e. (1) third party privacy seals, (2) privacy statements, (3) third party security seals, and (4) security features). The results indicate consumers valued security features significantly more than the three other trust indices. We also investigated the relationship between these trust indices and the consumer's perceptions of a marketer's trustworthiness. The findings indicate that consumers' ratings of trustworthiness of Web merchants did not parallel experts' evaluation of sites' use of the trust indices. This study also examined the extent to which consumers are willing to provide private information to electronic and land merchants. The results revealed that when making the decision to provide private information, consumers rely on their perceptions of trustworthiness irrespective of whether the merchant is electronic only or land and electronic. Finally, we investigated the relative importance of three types of Web attributes: security, privacy and pleasure features (convenience, ease of use, cosmetics). Privacy and security features were of lesser importance than pleasure features when considering consumers' intention to purchase. A discussion of the implications of these results and an agenda for future research are provided. 相似文献

The cyclo‐dipeptide substrates of the essential M. tuberculosis (Mtb) enzyme CYP121 were deconstructed into their component fragments and screened against the enzyme. A number of hits were identified, one of which exhibited an unexpected inhibitor‐like binding mode. The inhibitory pharmacophore was elucidated, and fragment binding affinity was rapidly improved by synthetic elaboration guided by the structures of CYP121 substrates. The resulting inhibitors have low micromolar affinity, good predicted physicochemical properties and selectivity for CYP121 over other Mtb P450s. Spectroscopic characterisation of the inhibitors′ binding mode provides insight into the effect of weak nitrogen‐donor ligands on the P450 heme, an improved understanding of factors governing CYP121–ligand recognition and speculation into the biological role of the enzyme for Mtb. 相似文献

Charge transport, with charge carrier mobility as main parameter, is one of the fundamental properties of semiconductors. In disordered systems like most organic semiconductors, the effective mobility is a function of the electric field, the charge carrier density, and temperature. Transport is often investigated in a space-charge limited current (SCLC) regime in thin film single carrier devices, where an electric current is driven in the direction perpendicular to the surface. A method is described for fabricating and electrically characterizing large‐area (100–400 μm2) metal‐molecular monolayer‐metal junctions with a relatively high overall yield of ≈45%. The measurement geometry consists of ultra‐smooth (template‐stripped) patterned Au bottom electrodes, combined with ultra‐smooth top Au electrodes deposited using wedging transfer. The fabrication method is applied to the electrical characterization of Au‐alkanethiol self‐assembled monolayer‐Au junctions. An exponential decay of the current density is found for increasing the chain length of the alkanethiols, in agreement with earlier studies. The symmetric device geometry, and flexibility for contacting monolayers with various end groups are important advantages compared to existing techniques for electrically characterizing molecular monolayers. 相似文献

Recent work on the long-term stability of memory and synaptic plasticity has identified a potentially critical role for protein kinase Mzeta (PKMζ). PKMζ is a constitutively active, atypical isoform of protein kinase C that is believed to maintain long term potentiation at hippocampal synapses in vitro. In behaving animals, local inhibition of PKMζ disrupts spatial memory in the hippocampus and conditioned taste aversion memory in the insular cortex. The role of PKMζ in context fear memory is less clear. This study examined the role of PKMζ in amygdala and hippocampal neurons following a standard fear conditioning protocol. The results indicate that PKMζ inhibition in the amygdala, but not in the hippocampus, can disrupt fear memory. This suggests that PKMζ may only maintain select forms of memory in specific brain structures and does not participate in a universal memory storage mechanism. An extension of L. L. Jacoby's (1991) process-dissociation procedure was used to examine the effects of aging on recollection and automatic influences of memory (habit). Experiment 1 showed that older adults were impaired in their ability to engage in recollection but did not differ from young adults in their reliance on habit. Elderly adults were also less able to exploit distinctive contextual information to enhance recollection. Experiments 2 and 3 showed that with more supportive conditions, older adults were able to benefit from distinctive contextual information. Quantitative and qualitative deficits in recollective abilities are interpreted within a dual-process model of memory. The problem of distinguishing between a deficit in recollection and a deficit in inhibitory processes in older adults (e. g., L. Hasher & R. T.
