Finite impulse response (FIR) filtering is a ubiquitous operation in digital signal processing systems and is generally implemented in full custom circuits due to high-speed and low-power design requirements. The complexity of an FIR filter is dominated by the multiplication of a large number of filter coefficients by the filter input or its time-shifted versions. Over the years, many high-level synthesis algorithms and filter architectures have been introduced in order to design FIR filters efficiently. This article reviews how constant multiplications can be designed using shifts and adders/subtractors that are maximally shared through a high-level synthesis algorithm based on some optimization criteria. It also presents different forms of FIR filters, namely, direct, transposed, and hybrid and shows how constant multiplications in each filter form can be realized under a shift-adds architecture. More importantly, it explores the impact of the multiplierless realization of each filter form on area, delay, and power dissipation of both custom (ASIC) and reconfigurable (FPGA) circuits by carrying out experiments with different bitwidths of filter input, design libraries, reconfigurable target devices, and optimization criteria in high-level synthesis algorithms.  相似文献

In Tunable-Transmitter Fixed-Receiver (TT-FR)-based Wavelength Division Multiplexed (WDM) ring topologies, each node is provided with a dedicated wavelength (home channel) for reception, which must be shared by the upstream nodes willing to communicate with it. Thus, to avoid channel collisions, it is necessary to define a Medium Access Control (MAC) mechanism that arbitrates access to a given destination wavelength. This work proposes and analyses a simple MAC mechanism that avoids channel collisions by recirculating traffic on the upstream ring segment where congestion was detected. Essentially, whenever a given node has got any traffic to transmit, it must first block access to in-transit traffic, which is reflected back to the upstream node over a second optical fibre. Such blocked traffic is given a second chance to pass through the congested node after a round segment delay, thus making use of the ring topology as buffering units. This work analyses the performance operation of such a MAC protocol under two policies applied to recirculated traffic: (1) recirculation bypass and (2) recirculation store-and-forward.  相似文献

Over the past decade, near‐infrared (NIR)‐emitting nanoparticles have increasingly been investigated in biomedical research for use as fluorescent imaging probes. Here, high‐quality water‐dispersible core/shell/shell PbS/CdS/ZnS quantum dots (hereafter QDs) as NIR imaging probes fabricated through a rapid, cost‐effective microwave‐assisted cation exchange procedure are reported. These QDs have proven to be water dispersible, stable, and are expected to be nontoxic, resulting from the growth of an outer ZnS shell and the simultaneous surface functionalization with mercaptopropionic acid ligands. Care is taken to design the emission wavelength of the QDs probe lying within the second biological window (1000–1350 nm), which leads to higher penetration depths because of the low extinction coefficient of biological tissues in this spectral range. Furthermore, their intense fluorescence emission enables to follow the real‐time evolution of QD biodistribution among different organs of living mice, after low‐dose intravenous administration. In this paper, QD platform has proven to be capable (ex vivo and in vitro) of high‐resolution thermal sensing in the physiological temperature range. The investigation, together with the lack of noticeable toxicity from these PbS/CdS/ZnS QDs after preliminary studies, paves the way for their use as outstanding multifunctional probes both for in vitro and in vivo applications in biomedicine.  相似文献

The subscribers’ personal information and services that mobile operators are able to provide to Web developers offer new and exciting possibilities in numerous domains. However, bringing mobile information services to the Web to enable a new generation of mobile Web services presents several research challenges on identity and privacy management. In this paper, we describe a framework for identity management in mobile services that empowers users to govern the use and release of their personal information. Our framework is based on a brokering approach that intermediates between the mobile operator’s information services and the Web service providers. By leveraging on Web services, identity management infrastructure and privacy enhancing technologies, our framework provides an effective, privacy-considerate delivery of services over the mobile Web environment. This paper describes the design principles and architecture of the framework as well as the feasibility, applicability and user-experience evaluation we have carried out.  相似文献

The MPLS platform enables the implementation of advanced multipath and multicast routing schemes. This work develops and analyses the performance of a new bi-criteria minimum spanning tree model intended for routing broadcast messages in MPLS networks or constructing tree-based overlay networks. The aim of the model is to obtain spanning trees which are compromise solutions with respect to two important traffic engineering metrics: load balancing cost and average delay bound. An exact solution to the formulated bi-criteria optimization problem is presented, which is based on an algorithm that enables the computation of the set of supported non-dominated spanning trees. An application model and a set of experiments on randomly generated Internet type topologies will also be presented. Finally a network performance analysis of the model considering three network performance metrics will be shown.  相似文献

Monitoring speech quality in Voice over IP (VoIP) networks is important to ensure a minimal acceptable level of speech quality for IP calls running through a managed network. Information such as packet loss, codec type, jitter, end‐to‐end delay and overall speech quality enables the network manager to verify and accurately tune parameters in order to adjust network problems. The present article proposes the deployment of a monitoring architecture that collects, stores and displays speech quality information about concluded voice calls. This architecture is based on our proposed MIB (Management Information Base) VOIPQOS, deployed for speech quality monitoring purposes. Currently, the architecture is totally implemented, but under adjustment and validation tests. In the future, the VOIPQOS MIB can be expanded to automatically analyze collected data and control VoIP clients and network parameters for tuning the overall speech quality of ongoing calls. Approximate information on the location of nodes in a sensor network is essential to many types of sensor network applications and algorithms. In many cases, using symbolic coordinates is an attractive alternative to the use of geographic coordinates due to lower costs and lower requirements on the available location information during coordinate assignment. In this paper, we investigate different possible methods of assigning symbolic coordinates to sensor nodes. We present a method based on broadcasting coordinate messages and filtering using sensor events. We show in the evaluation that this method allows a reliable assignment of symbolic coordinates while only generating a low overhead.  相似文献

The paper reports on a freeze‐granulation technique to prepare a novel nanocomposite of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)‐modified hydroxyapatite (HA) with multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) as reinforcement for a new generation biomedical bone cement and implant coatings. By using this technique it is possible to increase material homogeneity and also enhance the dispersion of MWCNTs in the composite matrix. The phase composition and the surface morphology of the nanocomposite material were studied using X‐ray diffraction, field‐emission scanning electron microscopy, and micro‐Raman spectroscopy. Additionally, nanomechanical properties of different concentrations of MWCNT‐reinforced nanocomposite were performed by a nanoindentation technique, which indicates that a concentration of 0.1 wt % MWCNTs in the PMMA/HA nanocomposite material gives the best mechanical properties.  相似文献

We present a complete characterization of the work parameters of several types of semiconductor lasers. Static parameters as: power, linewidth and linewidth enhancement factor and also dynamic parameters such as: relaxation oscillations, relative intensity noise and damping rates are calculated using measurements of the optical spectrum of the lasers operated in continuous-wave mode. Methods for the calculation of these parameters are described and applied to the lasers under test by means of a single general setup and a single set of measurements  相似文献

We present a general wavelet-based denoising scheme for functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data and compare it to Gaussian smoothing, the traditional denoising method used in fMRI analysis. One-dimensional WaveLab thresholding routines were adapted to two-dimensional (2-D) images, and applied to 2-D wavelet coefficients. To test the effect of these methods on the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), we compared the SNR of 2-D fMRI images before and after denoising, using both Gaussian smoothing and wavelet-based methods. We simulated a fMRI series with a time signal in an active spot, and tested the methods on noisy copies of it. The denoising methods were evaluated in two ways: by the average temporal SNR inside the original activated spot, and by the shape of the spot detected by thresholding the temporal SNR maps. Denoising methods that introduce much smoothness are better suited for low SNRs, but for images of reasonable quality they are not preferable, because they introduce heavy deformations. Wavelet-based denoising methods that introduce less smoothing preserve the sharpness of the images and retain the original shapes of active regions. We also performed statistical parametric mapping on the denoised simulated time series, as well as on a real fMRI data set. False discovery rate control was used to correct for multiple comparisons. The results show that the methods that produce smooth images introduce more false positives. The less smoothing wavelet-based methods, although generating more false negatives, produce a smaller total number of errors than Gaussian smoothing or wavelet-based methods with a large smoothing effect.  相似文献
