Nowadays, so as to adapt to the global market, where competition is getting tougher, firms producing through the modern production approach need to bring not the only performance of the system designed both during the research and development phase and the production phase but also the performance of the product to be developed as well as the process to be improved to the highest level. The Taguchi method is an experimental design technique seeking to minimize the effect of uncontrollable factors, using orthogonal arrays. It can also be designed as a set of plans showing the way data are collected through experiments. Experiments are carried out using factors defined at different levels and a solution model generated in ARENA 3.0 program using SIMAN, which is a simulation language. Many experimental investigations reveal that the speed and capacity of automated-guided vehicle, the capacities of local depots, and the mean time between shipping from the main depot are the major influential parameters that affect the performance criteria of the storage system. For the evaluation of experiment results and effects of related factors, variance analysis and signal/noise ratio are used and the experiments are carried out in MINITAB15 according to Taguchi L16 scheme. The purpose of this study is to prove that experimental design is an utilizable method not only for product development and process improvement but it can also be used effectively in the design of material handling–transfer systems and performance optimization of automation technologies, which are to be integrated to the firms.  相似文献

For passive building applications, phase change materials (PCMs) are microencapsulated to avoid leakage of PCM from concrete structure. The primary challenge of using microencapsulated PCM (MPCM) is its weak shell structure. New MPCMs with different shell compositions to prevent breakage during mixing in fresh concrete are needed. In this study, free radical polymerization method to microencapsulate capric acid–myristic acid mixture as PCM with two different methyl methacrylate co‐polymers is proposed to produce robust MPCMs for building applications. Two new microcapsules (MPCM‐1 and MPCM‐2) having latent heats of 91.9 and 97.3 J/g were synthesized. SEM analyses showed the size of microcapsules being in the range of 400–850 nm for MPCM‐1 and 250–475 nm for MPCM‐2. Analyses also reveal that the shells of MPCMs were not harmed, as they were added into concrete mixes. The microsphere's geometry was preserved, and distribution was homogeneous. The MPCMs were also studied under thermal tests of 1000 heating/cooling cycles. No significant changes in thermal properties were observed after thermal cycling tests. In this study, three-dimensional elasto-plastic analysis of functionally graded (FG) circular plates under low-velocity impact loads is presented. The FG circular plate is composed of ceramic (SiC) and metal (Al) phases, varying in a predetermined fashion through the plate thickness. The elasto-plastic behaviour of the FG circular plate is described by the TTO model. In the analyses, the ceramic phase is taken to be an isotropic elastic material whereas the metal phase is taken to be elasto-plastic material in accordance with the TTO model. The locally effective material properties were evaluated using homogenization method which is based on the Mori–Tanaka scheme. The effects of compositional gradient exponent and impactor velocity on the elasto-plastic impact response of the FG circular plates are investigated, and results are presented graphical form. The compositional gradient exponent and impactor velocity have significant effects on the elasto-plastic impact response of the FG circular plates. The elasto-plastic impact response of FG circular plates is similar to those of homogeneous plates. Therefore, the TTO model can be used to describe the mechanical behaviour of FG plates beyond the elastic range, assuming that the material response is essentially governed by the spreading of plasticity in the metal phase.  相似文献

We present a connectionist approach for solving Tangram puzzles. Tangram is an ancient Chinese puzzle where the object is to decompose a given figure into seven basic geometric figures. One connectionist approach models Tangram pieces and their possible placements and orientations as connectionist neuron units which receive excitatory connections from input units defining the puzzle and lateral inhibitory connections from competing or conflicting units. the network of these connectionist units, operating as a Boltzmann Machine, relaxes into a configuration in which units defining the solution receive no inhibitory input from other units. Particle distribution in particulate metal matrix composites was investigated experimentally and theoretically. SiC reinforced Pb 20%Sn alloy mechanically was stirred and cast into a cylindrical mold by an inert gas pressure. Particle distribution in the cast is determined at several locations by sectioning and microscopic investigation techniques. The particle fraction is found to decrease along the axis of the mold. The regions close to the boundary wall are determined as the possible clustering areas. A mathematical model is developed to characterize flow of mixture of molten metal alloy and ceramic particles. The distribution of particles is estimated from the trajectories of representative particles with the Lagrangian point of view. The numerical results are reasonably suited with experimental data.  相似文献

The effect of laboratory scale thermo-mechanical processing of aluminium alloy AA3005, supplied as 2.9 mm sheet at the hot roll transfer gauge, on filiform corrosion (FFC) susceptibility, electrochemical properties and near surface microstructure was investigated. Corrosion testing showed that the as hot rolled material exhibited poor FFC resistance and that heat treatment of both the as hot rolled and subsequently cold rolled samples resulted in a drastic loss of corrosion resistance. Microstructural characterisation showed that both hot and cold rolling resulted in enhanced surface shear deformation and the formation of a thin layer of metal in the surface with different properties and microstructural characteristics than the underlying bulk material. Enhanced surface deformation resulted in a redistribution of intermetallic particles in this region. Poor FFC properties were correlated with the presence of a higher density of fine intermetallic precipitates in the surface layers than in the underlying bulk. It is suggested that enhanced secondary precipitation of intermetallic particles in the deformed surface layers during high temperature exposure, e.g., during hot rolling or annealing steps, is the main contributing factor to the observed poor FFC resistance.  相似文献

This paper applies the causality test to examine the causal relationship between primary energy consumption (EC) and real Gross National Product (GNP) for Turkey during 1970–2006. We employ unit root tests, the augmented Dickey–Fuller (ADF) and the Philips–Perron (PP), Johansen cointegration test, and Pair-wise Granger causality test to examine relation between EC and GNP. Our empirical results indicate that the two series are found to be non-stationary. However, first differences of these series lead to stationarity. Further, the results indicate that EC and GNP are cointegrated and there is bidirectional causality running from EC to GNP and vice versa. This means that an increase in EC directly affects economic growth and that economic growth also stimulates further EC. This bidirectional causality relationship between EC and GNP determined for Turkey at 1970–2006 period is in accordance with the ones in literature reported for similar countries. Consequently, we conclude that energy is a limiting factor to economic growth in Turkey and, hence, shocks to energy supply will have a negative impact on economic growth.  相似文献

In this study the layer optimization was carried out for maximizing the lowest (first) fundamental frequency of symmetrical laminated composite plates subjected to any combination of the three classical boundary conditions, and the applicability of the Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) algorithm to the layer optimization was investigated. The finite element method was used for calculating the first natural frequencies of the laminated composite plates with various stacking sequences. The ABC algorithm maximizes the first natural frequency of the laminated composite plate defined as an objective function. The optimal stacking sequences were determined for two layer numbers, twenty boundary conditions and two plate length/width ratios. The outer layers of the composite plate had a stiffness increasing effect, and as the number of clamped plate edges was increased both he stiffness and natural frequency of the plate increased. The optimal stacking sequences were in good agreement with those determined by the Ritz-based layerwise optimization method (Narita 2003: J. Sound Vibration 263 (5), 1005–1016) as well as by the genetic algorithm method combined with the finite element method.  相似文献

In this study, the performance of the counter flow type vortex tube with the input parameters including the nozzle number (N), the densities of inlet gases (air, oxygen, nitrogen, and argon) and the inlet pressure (Pinlet) has been modeled with the proposed hybrid method combining a novel data preprocessing called output dependent feature scaling (ODFS) and adaptive network based fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) by using the experimentally obtained data. In the developed system, output parameter temperature gradient between the cold and hot outlets has been determined using input parameters comprising (Pinlet), (N), and the density of gases. In order to evaluate the performance of hybrid method, the mean absolute error (MAE), mean square error (MSE), root mean square error (RMSE), determination coefficient (R2), and Index of Agreement (IA) values have been used. The obtained results are 9.0670e-004 (MAE), 5.8563e-006 (MSE), 0.0024 (RMSE), 1.00 (R2), and 1.00 (IA) using the hybrid method.  相似文献
