Recent computational studies (Phys. Rev. Lett. 70 (1993) 1960; Phys. Rev. B 62 (2000) 17055) predicted that friction of ordered organic monolayer had characteristic dependence on temperature, where the maximum friction was observed around rotator transition point of the monolayer. This remained to be confirmed experimentally. Using a friction force microscope (FFM) combined with a temperature regulation module, we attempted to investigate such dependence on temperature (130 K-room temperature) on a self-assembled monolayer of dodecanethiol prepared on Au(1 1 1). The observed friction showed strong dependence on temperature and good agreement with the computational prediction.  相似文献

We have investigated the effect of the impurity scattering due to a small amount of oxygen defect, ( < 0.01) on the anisotropic resistivity of La 2–x Sr x CuO 4– in a wide x range up to x = 0.26. In the superconducting region with 0.06 x 0.22, we found that impurity scattering by the oxygen defect remarkably decreases the c-axis resistivity c over the whole temperature range. The finding is interpreted in terms of the nonmetallic conduction along the c axis which is enhanced by scattering the confined carriers in the CuO 2 plane. On the other hand, the enhancement of the c-axis conduction diminishes in the nonsuperconducting region. This is consistent with the two-dimensional nature of the electronic state which stabilizes the superconducting ground state in the cuprates.  相似文献

We have performed scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy (STM/STS) on single crystals of heavily Pb-doped Bi 2 Sr 2 CaCu 2 O y (Pb-Bi2212). The obtained STM images clearly demonstrated phase separation into the and phases with lamella-type and new zigzag-like microstructures. From the site-specified tunneling measurements, it was directly confirmed that the phase possesses higher T c . This suggests that the phase boundaries act as strong pinning sites especially at higher temperatures.  相似文献

The mechanism underlying the cytotoxicity mediated by a human CD4(+) cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) clone directed against a peptide derived from the acute myelogenous leukemia-associated fusion protein, DEK-CAN, was investigated. A DEK-CAN fusion peptide-specific CD4(+) Th0 CTL clone, designated HO-1, was established from the peripheral blood lymphocytes of a healthy individual. HO-1 exerted direct but not "innocent bystander" cytotoxicity within 2 hours. The cytotoxicity mediated by HO-1 was completely Ca2+-dependent. Because HO-1 lysed peptide-loaded Fas-deficient target cells derived from a patient with a homozygous Fas gene mutation, its cytotoxicity appeared to be mediated by a Fas-independent pathway. In addition, its cytotoxicity was only partially inhibited by treatment with concanamycin A and strontium ions, which are inhibitors of the perforin-based cytotoxic pathway. Although membrane-bound type of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) was expressed on HO-1, an anti-TNF-alpha antibody had no effect on HO-1-mediated cytotoxicity. HO-1 expressed mRNA for apoptosis-inducing mediators, including perforin, granzyme B, Fas ligand, TNF-alpha, and lymphotoxin; however, no DNA fragmentation was detected in target cells incubated with HO-1 by 5-[125I]Iodo-2'-deoxyuridine release assay and agarose gel electrophoresis of DNA. Although it has been suggested that the Fas/Fas ligand system is the main pathway by which CD4(+) CTL-mediated cytotoxicity is exerted in murine systems, HO-1 produced peptide-specific and HLA-restricted cytotoxicity via a Fas-independent and nonapoptotic pathway. The present study thus describes a novel mechanism of cytotoxicity mediated by CD4(+) CTL.  相似文献

A 57-year-old man was admitted to our hospital because of restenosis of the left main coronary trunk (LMT) after patch angioplasty for the LMT lesion. PTCA was repeated four times during three years after patch angioplasty, but recent coronary angiogram still demonstrated 75% restenosis of the LMT lesion. Double-CABG was performed to LAD and LCX using the left internal thoracic artery and saphenous vein graft. Postoperative coronary angiogram revealed an excellent result. A careful consideration must be given to the indication of the patch angioplasty of the LMT lesion.  相似文献

The bacteria isolated from the patients with lower respiratory tract infections were collected by institutions located throughout Japan, since 1981. Ikemoto et al. have been investigating susceptibilities of these isolates to various antibacterial agents and antibiotics, and characteristics of the patients and isolates from them each year. Results obtained from these investigations are discussed. In 16 institutions around the entire Japan, 557 strains of presumably etiological bacteria were isolated mainly from the sputa of 449 patients with lower respiratory tract infections during the period from October 1996 to September 1997. MICs of various antibacterial agents and antibiotics were determined against 98 strains of Staphylococcus aureus, 93 strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae, 84 strains of Haemophilus influenzae, 84 strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (non-mucoid strains), 17 strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (mucoid strains), 31 strains of Moraxella subgenus Branhamella catarrhalis, 21 strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae etc., and the drug susceptibilities of these strains were assessed except for those strains that died during transportation. 1) S. aureus S. aureus strains for which MICs of oxacillin (MPIPC) were higher than 4 micrograms/ml (methicillin-resistant S. aureus) accounted for 67.3%. The frequency of the drug resistant bacteria increased comparing to the previous year's 52.7%. Arbekacin (ABK) and vancomycin (VCM) showed the highest activities against both S. aureus and MRSA with MIC80s of 1 microgram/ml. 2) S. pneumoniae Imipenem (IPM) and panipenem (PAPM) of carbapenems showed the most potent activities with MIC80s of 0.063 microgram/ml. Faropenem (FRPM) showed the next potent activity with MIC80 of 0.125 microgram/ml. The other drugs except erythromycin (EM), clindamycin (CLDM) and tetracycline (TC) were active against S. pneumoniae tested with MIC80s of 8 micrograms/ml or below. 3) H. influenzae The activities of all drugs were potent against H. influenzae tested with MIC80s of 4 micrograms/ml or below. Cefotiam (CTM), cefmenoxime (CMX), cefditoren (CDTR) and ofloxacin (OFLX) showed the most potent activities with MIC80s of 0.063 microgram/ml. 4) P. aeruginosa (mucoid strains) Tobramycin (TOB) showed the most potent activity against P. aeruginosa (mucoid strains) with MIC80 of 1 microgram/ml. Ceftazidime (CAZ), cefsulodin (CFS), IPM, gentamicin (GM), ABK and ciprofloxacin (CPFX) showed the next potent activities, with MIC80s of 2 micrograms/ml. The MIC80s of the other drugs ranged from 4 micrograms/ml to 16 micrograms/ml. 5) P. aeruginosa (non-mucoid strains) TOB and CPFX showed the most potent activities against P. aeruginosa (non-mucoid strains) with MIC80s of 1 microgram/ml. The MIC80s of piperacillin (PIPC) and cefoperazone (CPZ) were 16 micrograms/ml in 1995, and they were 64 micrograms/ml in 1996. 6) K. pneumoniae All drugs except ampicillin (ABPC) were active against K. pneumoniae. CMX, cefpirome (CPR), cefozopran (CZOP) and carumonam (CRMN) showed the most potent activities against K. pneumoniae with MIC80s of 0.125 microgram/ml. The MIC80s of the other drugs ranged from 0.25 microgram/ml to 2 micrograms/ml. 7) M.(B) catarrhalis Against M.(B.) catarrhalis, all drugs showed good activities with MICs of 4 micrograms/ml or below. IPM and minocycline (MINO) showed the most potent activities with MICs of 0.063 microgram/ml. Also, we investigated year to year changes in the characteristics of patients, their respiratory infectious diseases, and the etiology. Patients' backgrounds were examined for 557 isolates from 449 cases. The examination of age distribution indicated that the proportion of patients with ages over 60 years was 71.0% of all the patients showing a slight increase over that in 1994. Proportions of diagnosed diseases were as follows: Bacterial pneumonia and chronic bronchitis were the most frequent with 35.9% and 30.3% respectively. This paper deals with μ-synthesis of an electromagnetic suspension system. First, an issue of modeling a real physical electromagnetic suspension system is discussed. We derive a nominal model as well as a set of models in which the real system is assumed to reside. Different model structures and possible model parameter values are fully employed to determine unstructured additive plant perturbations, which directly yield uncertainty frequency weighting function. Second, based on the set of plant models, we setup robust performance control objectives. Third, we make use of the D-K iteration approach for the controller design. Finally, implementing the controller with a digital signal processor, experiments are carried out. With these experimental results, we show robust performance of the designed control system  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: Our purpose was to determine whether the secretory component of immunoglobulin A in maternal serum predicts delivery before 34 weeks' gestation. STUDY DESIGN: Primigravid women of an urban population in New Zealand were recruited at booking into a prospective longitudinal nested case control study (n = 1651; after exclusions and withdrawals, n = 1511). Serum was collected at 8 to 12 weeks, 15 to 18 weeks, 21 to 24 weeks, 28 to 30 weeks, and 36 to 38 weeks of gestation and 6 weeks post partum. Concentrations of the secretory component of immunoglobulin A were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in all women who were delivered preterm (n = 53) and in controls randomly selected from women delivered at > or =37 weeks' gestation (n = 178). RESULTS: Serum concentrations of the secretory component of immunoglobulin A were similar in women delivered at term or preterm throughout pregnancy (n = 21 delivered at <34 weeks and n = 32 at 34 to 36.9 weeks, incidence 3.5%). Receiver-operator characteristic curves showed no discriminating ability of the secretory component of immunoglobulin A. Smokers had 50% higher concentrations than nonsmokers did (p < 0.0001 by analysis of variance). CONCLUSION: The secretory component of immunoglobulin A in maternal serum does not predict preterm delivery in a low-risk population.  相似文献
