Cell division and subsequent programmed cell death in imaginal discs of Drosophila larvae determine the final size of organs and structures of the adult fly. We show here that nitric oxide (NO) is involved in controlling the size of body structures during Drosophila development. We have found that NO synthase (NOS) is expressed at high levels in developing imaginal discs. Inhibition of NOS in larvae causes hypertrophy of organs and their segments in adult flies, whereas ectopic expression of NOS in larvae has the opposite effect. Blocking apoptosis in eye imaginal discs unmasks surplus cell proliferation and results in an increase in the number of ommatidia and component cells of individual ommatidia. These results argue that NO acts as an antiproliferative agent during Drosophila development, controlling the balance between cell proliferation and cell differentiation. 相似文献

1. | First of all we note the conditional character of the given probabilistic estimates of the design accelerations. It is determined by the character of the estimates of the initial parameters used. Turning to the probabilistic characteristics of accelerations obtained for the case of the Nurek hydrostation region for earthquakes with M=5.5 from the Ionaskhsh seismichazardous zone closest to the site and with M=7.5 from the Gissar-Kokshaal zone more distant from the site, we arrive at a conclusion about their comparability in the case of a higher probability of accelerations for a weaker earthquake from the near zone. It is necessary to emphasize that given a completely specific scheme of seismic hazard, this relationship of probability is invariable. The desire to increase the level of probability of acceleration for a stronger earthquake from a distant zone with an increase of the value of this acceleration does not make physical sense, since this is equivalent to an artificial approach of a large distant seismic-hazardous zone to the site. |
2. | Thus, given specific seismogeological conditions for the region of construction of a hydro development, there cannot be the same level of probability of probable accelerations for earthquakes from different seismic-hazardous zones. As a rule, a higher probability corresponds to accelerations from the zones closest to the site with a lower seismic potential. This is determined also by the requirements of the building codes, which forbid the construction of highly crucial structures near zones of large faults. |
