Abstract

High-quality thermoelectric La0.2Sr0.8TiO3 (LSTO) films, with thicknesses ranging from 20 nm to 0.7 μm, have been epitaxially grown on SrTiO3(001) substrates by enhanced solid-source oxide molecular-beam epitaxy. All films are atomically flat (with rms roughness < 0.2 nm), with low mosaicity (<0.1°), and present very low electrical resistivity (<5 × 10?4 Ω cm at room temperature), one order of magnitude lower than standard commercial Nb-doped SrTiO3 single-crystalline substrate. The conservation of transport properties within this thickness range has been confirmed by thermoelectric measurements where Seebeck coefficients of approximately –60 μV/K have been recorded for all films. These LSTO films can be integrated on Si for non-volatile memory structures or opto-microelectronic devices, functioning as transparent conductors or thermoelectric elements.  相似文献

An EKV-based high voltage MOSFET model is presented. The intrinsic channel model is derived based on the charge based EKV-formalism. An improved mobility model is used for the modeling of the intrinsic channel to improve the DC characteristics. The model uses second order dependence on the gate bias and an extra parameter for the smoothening of the saturation voltage of the intrinsic drain. First, the model is validated on the numerical device simulation of the VDMOS transistor and then, on the measured characteristics of the SOI-LDMOS transistor. The accuracy of the model is better than our previous model [Chauhan YS, Anghel C, Krummenacher F, Maier C, Gillon R, Bakeroot B, et al. Scalable general high voltage MOSFET model including quasi-saturation and self-heating effect. Among the multitude of polymers with carbon-based macromolecular architectures that easily ignite in certain applications where short circuits may occur, polyimide has evolved as a class of polymers with high thermal stability while exhibiting intrinsic flame retardancy at elevated temperatures via a char-forming mechanism. However, high amounts of aromatic rings in the macromolecular backbone are required for these results, which may affect other properties such as film-forming capacity or mechanical properties; thus, much work has been done to structurally derivatize or make hybrid polyimide systems. In this respect, flexible polyimide films (PI(1–4)) containing bulky 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO) units have been developed starting from commercial dianhydrides and an aromatic diamine containing two side chain bulky DOPO groups. The chemical structure of PI(1–4)) was characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR and 31P NMR spectroscopy. The optical properties, including absorption and luminescence spectra of these polymers, were analyzed. All polyimides containing DOPO derivatives emitted blue light with an emission maxima in the range of 340–445 nm, in solvents such as N,N-dimethylformamide, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, chloroform, and N,N-dimethylacetamide, while green light emission (λem = 487 nm for PI-4) was evidenced in a thin-film state. The thermal decomposition mechanism and flame-retardant behavior of the resulting materials were investigated by pyrolysis-gas-chromatography spectrometry (Py-GC), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), EDX maps and FTIR spectroscopy. The residues resulting from the TGA experiments were examined by SEM microscopy images and FTIR spectra to understand the pyrolysis mechanism.  相似文献

A nanocrystalline bcc Ti67.4Nb24.6Zr5Sn3 alloy is shown to fracture in an intrinsically ductile manner with exceptionally large dimples (up to 10 µm) which are two orders of magnitude greater than the grain size (≈ 40 nm). This large plasticity length scale is attributed to a combination of low shear modulus (≈ 27 GPa), high Poisson's ratio (≈ 0.4) and ultrahigh strength (UTS ≈ 1.1 GPa), close to the ideal shear stress, which facilitates ideal shear deformation to promote transgranular shear.  相似文献

This paper presents a TriMedia processor extended with an IDCT reconfigurable design, and assesses the performance gain such an extension has when performing MPEG-2 decoding. We first propose the skeleton of an extension of the TriMedia architecture, which consists of a Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA)-based Reconfigurable Functional Unit (RFU), a Configuration Unit managing the reconfiguration of the RFU, and their associated instructions. Then, we address the computation of the 8 × 8 (2-D) IDCT on such extended TriMedia and propose a scheme to implement the 1-D IDCT operation on the RFU. When mapped on an ACEX EP1K100 FPGA from Altera, the proposed 1-D IDCT exhibits a latency of 16 and a recovery of 2 TriMedia@200 MHz cycles, and occupies 45% of the logic cells of the device. By configuring the 1-D IDCT on the RFU at application launch-time, the IEEE-compliant 2-D IDCT can be computed with the throughput of 1/32 IDCT/cycle. This figure translates to an improvement over the standard TriMedia of more than 40% in terms of computing time when 2-D IDCT is carried out in the framework of MPEG-2 decoding. Finally, the proposed reconfigurable IDCT is compared to a number of existing designs.Mihai Sima was born in Bucharest, Romania. He received the MS degree in Computer Science from the Politehnica University of Bucharest, Romania, and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands. He had worked with the Research & Development Institute for Electronic Components (ICCE) in Bucharest for a decade, being involved in structured design of digital systems, design rule checking of ICs layout, logic and mixed-mode simulation of electronic circuits, testability analysis, and image processing. He is currently an associate professor with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer Science, Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands. His research interests include computer arithmetic, parallel architectures, embedded systems, reconfigurable computing, nano-electronics, neural networks, computational geometry, and computer aided design.Jos T.J. van Eijndhoven was born in Roosendaal, The Netherlands. He studied Electrical Engineering at the Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands, obtaining the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in 1981 and 1984, respectively, for a work on piecewise linear circuit simulation. Then, he became a senior research member in the design automation group of the Eindhoven University of Technology. In 1986 he spent a sabbatical period at the IBM Thomas J. In 1998 he joined Philips Research Laboratories in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, to work on the architectural design of programmable multimedia hardware and the associated mapping of media processing applications.Stamatis Vassiliadis was born in Manolates, Samos, Greece. He is a professor with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer Science, Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands. He has also served in the faculties of Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, and the State University of New York (S.U.N.Y.), Binghamton, NY.He hadworked for a decade with IBM in the AdvancedWorkstations and Systems laboratory in Austin TX, the Mid-Hudson Valley Laboratory in Poughkeepsie, NY, and the Glendale Laboratory in Endicott, NY. In IBM he was involved in a number of projects regarding computer design, organizations, and architectures and the leadership to advanced research projects. A number of his design and implementation proposals have been implemented in commerciallyavailable systems and processors including the IBM 9370 model 60 computer system, the IBM POWER II, the IBM AS/400 Models 400, 500, and 510, Server Models 40S and 50S, the IBM AS/400 Advanced 36, and the IBM S/390 G4 and G5 computer systems. For his work, he received numerous awards including 23 levels of Publication Achievement Awards, 15 levels of Invention Achievement Awards and an Outstanding Innovation Award for Engineering/Scientific Hardware Design in 1989. In 1990 he has been awarded the highest number of USA patents in IBM, six of his 70 USA patents being rated with the highest patent ranking in IBM.Kees A. Vissers graduated the Delft University of Technology, receiving his M.Sc. in 1980. He started directly with Philips Research Laboratories in Eindhoven where he was involved in highlevel simulation and high-level synthesis. He had been heading the research on hardware/software co-design and system level design for many years, and had a significant contribution to the TriMedia VLIW processor. From 1987 till 1988 he was a visiting researcher at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with the group of Don Thomas. He is currently a Research Fellow with University of California at Berkeley, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences. In Romania, surface waters near underground salt mines represent a significant risk to the stability of the mine workings. Such problems occur in many salt exploiting facilities, i.e. Slanic Prahova, Targu Ocna, Praid. In this paper, the authors present a method of dealing with this issue at the Praid salt mine with research targeted at avoiding the hazard presented by intrusion of surface waters into old mine workings. Monitoring activities are proposed to prevent damage due to the seepage of Corund Creek water into the subsurface salt body, which could compromise and even produce collapses in the salt mine sanatorium and old and new mines.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: The development of polymeric nanocomposites incorporating intercalated or exfoliated layered silicate clays into the organic matrix has been substantially motivated by the significant improvements induced by the presence of the inorganic component. Moreover, understanding and controlling the dispersion of inorganic layers into segmented polyurethane matrices by means of ionic interactions, and exploiting these interactions to enhance physicomechanical behaviour, could be of great interest in the field of polymer nanocomposites. RESULTS: New cationic polyurethane elastomers were prepared starting from poly(butylene adipate)diol (Mn = 1000 g mol?1), 4,4′‐diphenylmethane diisocyanate, 1,4‐butanediol and N‐methyldiethanolamine or N,N′‐β‐hydroxyethylpiperazine, used as potential quaternizable moieties. The characterization of the polymers was achieved using specific analyses employed for the macromolecular samples (Fourier transform infrared and 1H NMR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), gel permeation chromatography). An extension of our research on polymers reinforced with organically modified montmorillonite (OM‐MMT) in order to prepare hybrid composites with improved properties was performed and the resulting materials were characterized using TGA, X‐ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Also, the mechanical properties of the cationic polyurethane/OM‐MMT composites were investigated in comparison with the pristine ionic/non‐ionic polymers and their composites containing non‐ionic polymer blended with OM‐MMT or ionic polymer and unmodified MMT. CONCLUSION: The insertion of the organically modified clay into the polymeric matrix gave an improvement of the mechanical properties of the polyurethane composites, especially the tensile strength and stiffness of the hybrid materials. Over the years we have developed the Disciple theory, methodology, and family of tools for building knowledge-based agents. This approach consists of developing an agent shell that can be taught directly by a subject matter expert in a way that resembles how the expert would teach a human apprentice when solving problems in cooperation. This paper presents the most recent version of the Disciple approach and its implementation in the Disciple–RKF (rapid knowledge formation) system. Disciple–RKF is based on mixed-initiative problem solving , where the expert solves the more creative parts of the problem and the agent solves the more routine ones, integrated teaching and learning , where the agent helps the expert to teach it, by asking relevant questions, and the expert helps the agent to learn, by providing examples, hints, and explanations, and multistrategy learning , where the agent integrates multiple learning strategies, such as learning from examples, learning from explanations, and learning by analogy, to learn from the expert how to solve problems. Disciple–RKF has been applied to build learning and reasoning agents for military center of gravity analysis, which are used in several courses at the US Army War College.  相似文献

This paper presents our method, which simultaneously combines automatic imaging, identification, and counting with the acquisition of morphological information for at least 1000 blood cells from several three-dimensional images of the same sample. We started with seeking parameters to differentiate between red blood cells that are similar but different with respect to their development stage, i.e., mature or immature. We highlight that these cells have different diffractive patterns with complementary central intensity distribution in a given plane along the propagation axis. We use the Fresnel approximation to simulate propagation through cells modeled as spheroid-shaped phase objects and to find the cell property that has the dominant influence on this behavior. Starting with images obtained in the reconstruction step of the digital holographic microscopy technique, we developed a code for automated simultaneous individual cell image separation, identification, and counting, even when the cells are partially overlapped on a slide, and accurate measuring of their morphological features. To find the centroids of each cell, we propose a method based on analytical functions applied at threshold intervals. Our procedure separates the mature from the immature red blood cells and from the white blood cells through a decision based on gradient and radius values.  相似文献
