The straight run naphtha and kerosene fractions of Saudi Arabian Light crude oil were analyzed for paraffins, olefins, naphthenes and aromatics (PONA) using a gas chromatographic technique. This method is based upon group type separation according to carbon numbers using a programmed multiple valve switching sequence and employing multicolumn approach. The chromatographic operating conditions and carrier gas flow rates were selected to determine PONA contents of naphtha and kerosene fractions. These straight run fractions were produced by an automatic true boiling point (TBP) apparatus. Boiling range distributions of these fractions were determined using a standard ASTM method of simulated distillation. PONA results were compared with the literature. Total paraffins, naphthenes and aromatics agreed with each other.  相似文献

This paper evaluates the impact of climate change, as projected by two Global Climate Models (GCMs) on the occurrence of extreme precipitation events in the Upper Thames River Basin in the Canadian province of Ontario. The modelling approach presented herein involves a two-stage process of generating daily weather data followed by disaggregation to an hourly time step of select variables for some events. Monthly change fields for three weather variables (maximum temperature, minimum temperature, and precipitation) were obtained from the output of two GCMs. The historical data set is modified by applying change fields to the weather variables simultaneously and then using this as the driving data set for an improved K-nearest neighbour weather-generating model. Weather sequences representative of climatic conditions in 2050 were simulated. Disaggregation of precipitation data is carried out using a new method that is a hybrid key site approach. A distinct practical advantage of the approach presented here is that extreme wet and dry spells are simulated, which is crucial for evaluation of effective flood and drought management policies for the basin.  相似文献

The generation of scientific information for improved understating of the physical dynamics of a lake is fundamental for guiding lake stakeholders and managers at the local level to implement best management practices and help design effective management strategies and policies at higher levels. Multitemporal bathymetric information on lakes is very important in hydrology and sediment studies to more clearly indicate environmental changes and to understand the effects of land processes on the hydrology of lakes. Accordingly, the purpose of this study was to map bathymetric charts of Lake Hayq 1 in Ethiopia and to derive morphometric parameters, including depth, volume, area, width and length, and to plot curves illustrating the relationships between these parameters. The bathymetric survey was carried out using a combination of a SonarLite Portable Echo Sounder and Global Positioning System (GPS) to generate three‐dimensional (XYZ) hydrographic data. Surfer 8.01 and ArcGIS 9.3 software program were used for surface, gridding and morphometric analyses. Comparison of the results of this study with a previous study conducted in 1941 indicated the lake has experienced changes in depth and surface area. To reduce the negative impacts of human‐induced activities on the ecohydrology of the lake, and to maintain its ecological integrity, appropriate and integrated lake management practices must be adopted. This will necessitate policy formulation, active lake basin stakeholder involvement and implementation of basin‐wide lake management to ensure sustainable use of the lake and its basin resources.  相似文献

A novel CMOS variable gain amplifier operating on current signals with a dB-linear gain control is presented. The gain control is achieved by multiplying a digitally synthesized exponentially varying control current signal by a differential input signal in the current domain. A current amplifier at the output sets the gain to the desired level. Current-mode operation allows for a reduced supply voltage by minimizing the voltage swing at the low impedance nodes of the circuit. Multiple circuit realizations for various blocks are presented allowing for designs meeting different constraints. Experimental realization of the variable gain amplifier shows the validity of the presented approach.  相似文献

The theoretical calculation of the electronic structure of any constituent materials is the first step toward the interpretation and understanding of experimental data and reliable device design. This is essentially true for nanoscale devices where both the atomistic granularity of the underlying materials and the quantum-mechanical nature of charge carriers play critical roles in determining the overall device performance. In this paper, within a fully atomistic and quantum-mechanical framework, we investigate the electronic structure of wurtzite InN quantum dots (QDs) self-assembled on GaN substrates. The main objectives are threefold: 1) to explore the nature and the role of crystal atomicity, strain field, and piezoelectric and pyroelectric potentials in determining the energy spectrum and the wave functions; 2) to address the redshift in the ground state, the symmetry lowering and the nondegeneracy in the first excited state, and the strong band mixing in the overall conduction-band electronic states, which is a group of interrelated phenomena that has been revealed in recent spectroscopic analyses; and 3) to study the size dependence of the internal fields and its impact on the electronic structure as a whole. We also demonstrate the importance of 3-D atomistic material representation and the need for using realistically extended substrate and cap layers (multimillion-atom modeling) in studying the built-in structural and electric fields in these reduced dimensional QDs. The models used in this study are as follows: 1) valence-force-field Keating model for atomistic strain relaxation; 2) 20-band nearest neighbor sp 3 d 5 s* tight-binding model for the calculation of single-particle energy states; and 3) microscopically determined polarization constants in conjunction with an atomistic 3-D Poisson solver for the calculation of piezo- and pyroelectric contributions.  相似文献

With increasing demand of new wireless applications and increasing number of wireless user’s, problem of spectrum scarcity arises. In this context, cognitive radio supports dynamic spectrum access to address spectrum scarcity problem. Cognitive radio defined the cognitive radio nodes by their ability to intelligently adapt the environment to achieve specific objectives through advanced techniques. The variance of channel availability for cognitive radio nodes degrades connectivity and robustness of this type of network; in this case the use of clustering is an effective approach to meet this challenge. Indeed, the geographical areas are homogeneous in terms of type of radio spectrum, radio resources are better allocated by grouping cognitive radio nodes per cluster. Clustering is interesting to effectively manage the spectrum or routing in cognitive radio ad hoc networks. In this paper, we aim to improve connectivity and cooperativeness of cognitive radio nodes based on the improvement of the k-means algorithm. Our proposed algorithm is applied in cognitive radio ad hoc networks. The obtained results in terms of exchange messages and execution time show the feasibility of our algorithm to form clusters in order to improve connectivity and cooperativeness of cognitive radio nodes in the context of cognitive radio ad hoc networks.  相似文献

When dealing with a Wireless Sensor and Actuator Network (WSAN) structure, one of the challenging problems is lack of flexibility in such network operations as establishment, management, and configuration. Software-defined Networking (SDN) is a promising technology for a simpler, more flexible, and less overworked network structure. Integration of SDN as a solution into the existing WSAN structures seems to be a strong candidate of deployment solutions for next generation WSAN systems. In order to get enhanced performance results for WSAN systems, we proposed an interface protocol, referred to as WSANFlow, which is responsible for all the communications between SDN controller (SDNC) and SDN-oriented end devices. The SDNC in this approach has the network intelligence and is capable of handling all the control and management operations related to the network. Thus, advanced communication operations can be managed and efficiently optimized efficiently by the SDN controller and then, subsequently, corresponding instructions can be delivered to end devices using the proposed WSANFlow protocol. In the study, we analyzed the proposed framework performance, in terms of power consumption ratio, throughput, and end to end delay metrics. Then, we compared the results with those of a ZigBee-based counterpart for different workloads such as; light, heavy and heavier load which modelizes a video stream of mild parameters. The results show that not only has the overall performance of the existing WSAN system been enhanced, but also control and management operations have been simplified by the proposed model.  相似文献

An intricate network deployment for high demand users leads to simultaneous transmission in wireless mesh networks. Multiple radios are adapted to individual nodes for improving network performance and Quality of Service (QoS). However, whenever multiple radios are assigned to the same channel, co-located radio interference occurs, which poses a major drawback. This paper proposes a Radio aware Channel Assignment (Ra-CA) mechanism based on a direct graphical model for mitigation of interference in multi-radio multi-channel networks. Initially, the co-located radio interference is identified by classifying non-interfering links for simultaneous transmission in the network. Proposed channel assignment mechanism helps in allocating the minimal number of channels to the network that mitigate co-located radio interference. Performance analysis of the proposed Ra-CA strategy is carried out compared with other existing techniques, like Breadth First Search-Channel Assignment (BFS-CA) and Maximal Independent Set Channel Assignment (MaIS-CA), in multi-radio networks. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed channel assignment scheme is more efficient compared to the existing ones, in terms of QoS parameters like, packet drop rate, packet delivery ratio, transmission delay and throughput.  相似文献

Mobile IP has been developed by IETF to handle mobility of Internet hosts at the network layer. Mobile IP suffers from a number of drawbacks, including low survivability due to single-point failure of Home Agents. Recently, Seamless IP diversity based Generalized Mobility Architecture (SIGMA) was proposed to support low latency, low packet loss mobility of IP hosts. In this paper, we show that the location management scheme used in SIGMA enhances the survivability of the SIGMA-based mobile network. We develop an analytical model to evaluate and compare the survivability of SIGMA with that of Mobile IP. Numerical results show the improvement in system response time and service blocking probability of SIGMA over Mobile IP in the presence of hardware failures and Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks.
