Porcine pancreatic α-amylase digests of native and hydroxypropyl derivatives of maize, waxy maize and high amylose maize starches were subjected to ethanolic fractionation into oligosaccharide and polysaccharide fractions. Both fractions of the partial digests were analysed for blue values, reducing values, total carbohydrate, average degree of polymerisation and molar substitution (MS). Distribution of hydroxypropyl groups between the fractions varied depending on starch type and level of substitution with the polysaccharide fraction being higher in MS. Blue values (BV) and average degree of polymerisation (DP) tended to decrease with digestion while reducing (RV) increased. 相似文献

Calcium binding by both native and hydroxypropyl starches was studied in aqueous media under different pH, temperature and reaction times at various calcium: starch ratios. Calcium binding was markedly influenced by pHs and temperatures of the reaction mixture. Reaction times did not show marked influence on calcium binding. Maximum calcium binding was observed in alkaline pH and at lower temperature. Most of the calcium bound within the first 20 minutes. Thus, alkaline pH and lower temperature is more favourable for calcium binding by both native and hydroxypropyl rice starches compared to acidic pH and higher temperatures. 相似文献

Univariate screening on factors affecting the purification performance of recombinant hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) on ion exchange chromatography (IEC) and size exclusion chromatography (SEC) and the establishment of a two-step purification strategy were performed. Amongst four IEC adsorbents examined, the use of Q Sepharose XL IEC adsorbent under optimized conditions together with optimized SEC purification was able to efficiently purify HBsAg. An established purification strategy comprising the two techniques further demonstrated adaptability for scale-up operations with a final total purification factor (PF) of 94.82 ± 16.20, HBsAg purity of 95.48% and recovery yield of 78.07%. 相似文献

Ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber (EPDM)-based composites containing sepiolite (sep) hybridized with calcium carbonate (CaCO3), silica (Sil) or carbon black (CB) were prepared on a two-roll mill. The influence of fillers’ contents on the curing, mechanical, thermal and flammability of the composites was investigated. In comparison with EPDM/sep at 30 parts per hundred rubbers (phr) as a control composite, EPDM/sep/CB composites exhibited an outstanding improvement in tensile strength followed by EPDM/sep/Sil and EPDM/sep/CaCO3 composites. EPDM/sep/CB displayed the highest thermal stability and also improved flammability resistance. In addition, a higher amount of carbon black gave higher tensile strength. The results were influenced by the ability of CB to disperse well and form protective layers acting as mass transport barriers in the matrix. The field emission scanning electron microscopy analyses proved better dispersion of CB in the matrix. The presence of protective layers on the surface of samples consequently improved the thermal properties of the EPDM composites. The mechanism of formation of char protective layer in hybrid EPDM composites was also investigated based on morphological observations of char residues. According to this work, Sil and CB were able to hybrid with sep, while sep could be a potential substitution of CaCO3 in the EPDM composites. 相似文献

Electrical capacitance volume tomography (ECVT) is a recently-developed technique for real-time, non-invasive 3D monitoring of processes involving materials with strong contrasts in dielectric permittivity. This work is first application of the method to visualization of water flow in soil. We describe the principles behind the method, and then demonstrate its use with a simple laboratory infiltration experiment. 32 ECVT sensors were installed on the sides of an empty PVC column. Water was poured into the column at a constant rate, and ECVT data were collected every second. The column was then packed with dry sand and again supplied with water at a constant rate with data collected every second. Data were analyzed to give bulk average water contents, which proved consistent with the water supply rates. Data were also analyzed to give 3D images (216 voxels) allowing visualization of the water distribution during the experiments. Result of this work shows that water infiltration into the soil, wall flow, progress of the unstable wetting front and the final water distribution are clearly visible. 相似文献

Three types of mineral fillers—talc, calcium carbonate (CaCO3), and kaolin (10–40 wt % filler loadings)—were compounded with polypropylene (PP) with a twin‐screw extruder. The composites were injection‐molded, and the effects of the filler loading on the mechanical, flow, and thermal properties for the three different types of filled composites were investigated. The aim was to compare their properties and to deduce prospective filler combinations that would yield hybrid PP composites in following studies. The results showed that in most cases, the strength and stiffness of the talc‐filled PP composites was significantly higher than those of the CaCO3‐ and kaolin‐filled PP composites. However, CaCO3, being a nonreactive filler, increased the toughness of PP. The kaolin‐filled PP composites also showed some improvement in terms of strength and stiffness, although the increases in these properties were not as significant as those of the talc‐filled PP composites. The effects of interfacial interactions between the fillers and PP on the mechanical properties were also evaluated with semiempirical equations. The nucleating ability of all three fillers was studied with differential scanning calorimetry, and the strongest nucleating agent of the three was talc, followed by CaCO3 and kaolin. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Biocompatible polymers such as poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) are used to prepare hydrogels for biomedical applications, including optical applications such as the manufacture of sensing devices, cosmetic and smart, and medical contact lenses, among others. In this study, three contact lenses were prepared by doping PVP-PVA supportive hydrogel with 0.1, 0.5, and 1 wt% of laboratory-manufactured Ag NPs. The work demonstrates the evaluation of vision correction through each lens and the effect of changing the concentration of silver on its refractive index. The simulation involved the design and simulation of an aberrated human eye based on the Liou and Brennan model (LBM), and the insertion of the contact lenses for vision correction using the ZEMAX optical design program. This work also included a study of the antimicrobial properties of the resulting hydrogel contact lenses doped with Ag NPs. The resulting refractive index of one PVP-PVA-Ag lens was relatively high at 532 nm = 1.604, which made the lens provide the highest image contrast (the lowest MTF curve degradation) of 0.883 ± 0.027 at 20 cycles/mm and an RMS nearly the Airy disc diameter of 3.983 μm. PVA was used in combination with PVP for stabilizing Ag NPs to give the contact lenses an antibacterial property. The aim of this study was to investigate the performance of UHMWPE/HDPE-reinforced kenaf, basalt and hybrid kenaf/basalt composites. Mechanical testing of these samples was carried out such as tensile, flexural (three-point bending) and an impact test (Charpy). Pure resin (UHMWPE/HDPE) samples were tested and compare with reinforced 10% weight fraction of kenaf, basalt and hybrid kenaf/basalt samples to identifying their contribution and potential in this new composite material. UHMWPE/ HDPE sample was produced in constant ratio 60:40 respectively via extrusion process. Basalt reinforced UHMWPE/HDPE generates the highest elastic modulus result compared to kenaf and hybrid kenaf/basalt as a reinforcement material. The tensile results of kenaf reinforcement UHMWPE/HDPE samples are significantly higher (20%) than pure blend resin, which is an indication for good performance of kenaf, basalt and hybrid kenaf/basalt to be used in UHMWPE/HDPE-blend polymers. The flexural and Charpy strengths show the drawback results, where performance of polymer is reduced 5% with the absence of kenaf. It can be concluded that kenaf, basalt and hybrid kenaf/basalt fiber successfully increase the UHMWPE/HDPE blends performance especially under tensile loading. 相似文献
