Simulation of polarization converter formed by poling-inducedpolymer waveguides

A polarization converter using electrooptic (EO) polymer waveguides is proposed and it is simulated by a full vectorial beam propagation method (VBPM) for anisotropic medium. First, an efficient structure of poling electrodes is proposed for the fabrication of TE-mode poling-induced waveguides in EO polymer. For given electrode structures of both TE-mode and TM-mode waveguides, poling-induced dielectric tensors are calculated by the finite-element method to provide refractive index distribution, data for VBPM simulation. It is shown numerically that the poled TE and TM mode waveguides work efficiently as the corresponding polarization filters. Then, new poling electrodes are suggested to fabricate a waveguide device formed by connecting the TE and TM mode waveguides adiabatically with a slowly varying structure. This waveguide device has the optic axis slowly rotating as one moves along the propagation direction, so that it will act as polarization converter. VBPM simulation shows that the polarization of the guided mode rotates following the optic axis distribution. Polarization conversion is demonstrated successfully with high conversion efficiency and low excess loss

Semilinear Duhem model for rate-independent and rate-dependent hysteresis

The classical Duhem model provides a finite-dimensional differential model of hysteresis. In this paper, we consider rate-independent and rate-dependent semilinear Duhem models with provable properties. The vector field is given by the product of a function of the input rate and linear dynamics. If the input rate function is positively homogeneous, then the resulting input-output map of the model is rate independent, yielding persistent nontrivial input-output closed curve (that is, hysteresis) at arbitrarily low input frequency. If the input rate function is not positively homogeneous, the input-output map is rate dependent and can be approximated by a rate-independent model for low frequency inputs. Sufficient conditions for convergence to a limiting input-output map are developed for rate-independent and rate-dependent models. Finally, the reversal behavior and orientation of the rate-independent model are discussed.

Dichotomous behavior of polymer melts in isothermal melt spinning

Isothermal melt spinning experiments have been conducted using two polyethylene melts of low density (LDPE) and high density (HDPE) to produce steady state spinline profiles. The data revealed the threadline extensional viscosity exhibiting a contrasting picture : extension thickening behavior for LDPE and extension thinning one for HDPE. A White-Metzner model having a strain rate-dependent relaxation time was then found to be able to simulate this dichotomy in melt spinning fairly well: the fluids whose relaxation times have smaller strain rate-dependence can fit LDPE data with extension thickening extensional viscosity whereas the fluids whose relaxation times have larger strain rate-dependence can fit HDPE data with extension thinning extensional viscosity. This dichotomous nature of viscoelastic fluids is also believed to be able to explain other similar contrasting phenomena exhibited by polymer melts, such as vortex/no vortex in entry flows, cohesive/ductile fracture modes in extension, and more/less stable draw resonance than Newtonian fluids.

Analysis of Surface Plasmon Polariton Using Anisotropic Finite Elements

The anisotropic finite-element mesh is deployed in a vector finite-element method to numerically derive surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) more efficiently. The superiority of the anisotropic mesh lies in the fact that SPP modes, predictably, have a sharp field variation in the surface-normal direction, whereas the variation along the surface-tangent direction is comparably gentle. A case study on metallic fiber shows that the employment of anisotropic finite elements reduces the problem size by a factor of seven.     

Al-4%Cu过饱和合金在强磁场中时效行为

采用差示扫描量热仪分析并结合显微硬度测试、电子探针分析、透射电镜观察研究了10-T稳恒强磁场对Al-4％Cu（质量分数）合金130℃时效过程中各沉淀相析出行为的影响。结果表明：在低温时效初期强磁场的引入加速了铜的扩散，降低了G.P.（Ⅰ）区的溶解激活能，促进其溶解，各沉淀相的析出与溶解温度均向低温处移动，时效进程加快；另外，强磁场时效后沉淀相尺寸减小；施加强磁场试样的硬度明显高于未施加磁场试样的，时效硬化效果加强。     

辽东含硼岩系条痕状角闪混合岩特征及其找矿意义

痕状角闪混合岩与其围岩变（浅）粒岩为渐变过渡关系.并呈现一些特殊的结构构造.其岩石化学成份变化波动性较大,说明岩石化学成分不稳定,与矿化含量的不稳定性一致.其特殊的岩石化学组成显示为混合岩特征.条痕状角闪混合岩石稀土总量ΣREE的平均值为207.18 ppm;（Ce/ΣY平均值为3.25;La/Yb为平均值为 6.48,δEu平均为 0.48,Eu/Sm平均值为0.16.这些特点与里尔峪组的各种变（浅）粒岩相似,是层状混合花岗岩.
