In this study, Na‐montmorillonite was organically modified with cetyltrimethylammoniumbromide (CTAB) and intercalated with in‐situ polymerized indene. Polyindene(PIn)/Organo‐MMT nanocomposites were obtained with three different compositions and coded as: K1: [PIn(94.5%)/O‐MMT(5.5%)], K2: [PIn(92.8%)/O‐MMT(7.2%)], and K3: [PIn(87.9%)/O‐MMT(12.1%)]. These nanocomposites were subjected to full characterization with various techniques. Electrokinetic studies were conducted to reveal the zeta (ζ)‐potential characteristics of the nanocomposites. ζ‐potentials of the materials were observed to decrease with increasing O‐MMT content. The cationic (CTAB) and anionic (sodium dodecylsulfate) surfactants were shifted the ζ‐potentials of the colloidal dispersions to more positive and more negative regions, respectively whereas nonionic surfactant (Triton X‐100) caused almost no change. The pH and temperature were observed to shift the ζ‐potential values of the nanocomposites to more negative and slightly more positive regions, respectively. With the addition of mono (NaCl), di (BaCl2) and three (AlCl3) valent salts, the ζ‐potential of the nanocomposites were shifted to more negative, more positive, and much more positive regions, respectively. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this study, a new cationic monomer 2‐(3‐indol‐yl)ethylmethacrylamide (IEMA) derived from tryptamine was synthesized in a single step and characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), 1H‐NMR, and 13C‐NMR. Then, one‐step preparation of novel poly[2‐hydroxyethylmethacrylate‐c‐2‐(3‐indol‐yl)ethylmethacrylamide], or p(HEMA‐c‐IEMA), copolymeric hydrogels has been performed successfully with IEMA and 2‐hydroxyethylmethacrylate (HEMA) as monomers using free radical aqueous polymerization. The hydrogels were characterized with scanning electron microscopy, FTIR, elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, and texture profile analysis instruments. p(HEMA‐c‐IEMA) hydrogels were used for swelling, diffusion, drug release, and antibacterial activity studies. The drug‐release behavior of the hydrogels was determined as a function of time at 37 °C in pH 1.2 and 7.2. The swelling and drug‐release studies showed that an increased IEMA amount caused a higher increase in swelling and drug‐release values. Additionally, zero‐order, first‐order, and Higuchi equation kinetic models were applied to the drug‐release data, and the data fit well in the Higuchi model, and the Peppas power‐law model was applied to the release mechanism. Finally, the antibacterial activities of the hydrogels were screened against Gram‐positive bacteria (Bacillus cereus and Staphylococcus aureus) and Gram‐negative bacteria (Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium). © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A computational model is developed for efficient solutions of electromagnetic scattering from obstacles having random surface deformations or irregularities (such as roughness or randomly-positioned bump on the surface), by combining the Monte Carlo method with the principles of transformation electromagnetics in the context of finite element method. In conventional implementation of the Monte Carlo technique in such problems, a set of random rough surfaces is defined from a given probability distribution; a mesh is generated anew for each surface realization; and the problem is solved for each surface. Hence, this repeated mesh generation process places a heavy burden on CPU time. In the proposed approach, a single mesh is created assuming smooth surface, and a transformation medium is designed on the smooth surface of the object. Constitutive parameters of the medium are obtained by the coordinate transformation technique combined with the form-invariance property of Maxwell’s equations. At each surface realization, only the material parameters are modified according to the geometry of the deformed surface, thereby avoiding repeated mesh generation process. In this way, a simple, single and uniform mesh is employed; and CPU time is reduced to a great extent. The technique is demonstrated via various finite element simulations for the solution of two-dimensional, Helmholtz-type and transverse magnetic scattering problems.  相似文献

Lately, it has been seen that wireless communication systems have been more developed and there has been a huge demand for multi‐spectral transactions. Using circuits for more than one function is a serious requirement in communication technology. Especially, it expected from RF output stages to show the same performance on more than one frequency. To that end, it is required to produce a solution with wideband designs. In this study, a novel power divider/combiner design with a layered conic line has been investigated for the RF energy harvesting applications. The center frequency was set at 2 GHz and concluded with three different designs. In each design, bandwidth and S parameter characteristics were compared according to the number of layers of the transmission, and it was observed that as the number of layers increases, the bandwidth also increases. According to the design result, triple layer Wilkinson power divider was selected to connect to Villard voltage doubler circuit. The Wilkinson power combiner circuit inputs were given between ?10 dBm and 5 dBm input power. As a result, when low input power was given, efficiency was observed about 70%.  相似文献

The aim of study was to investigate the effects of various curing protocols with quartz–tungsten halogen (QTH) or light‐emitting diode (LED) light‐curing units on the degree of conversion (% DC) of two dual‐cured core buildup resin composites. Two dual‐cured core buildup resin composites, Clearfil Dc Core Automix (CLF) and Grandio Core Dc (GR), were selected. Specimens were exposed to the polymerization protocols as follows: there was immediate photoactivation or photoactivation delayed by 2 or 5 min by a QTH or LED source, and one group was allowed to chemically polymerize and served as a control (n = 6). The % DC of the specimens was determined with attenuated total reflectance–Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The GR samples polymerized with QTH for the 5‐min‐delayed photoactivation had higher % DC values than those self‐cured, and the Clearfil Dc Core Automix (CLF) samples with immediate or delayed curing protocols with halogen yielded higher % DC values than the samples that were chemically polymerized. The comparison of the two resin composites polymerized with halogen showed a higher % DC for CLF than for GR in the 2‐min‐delayed photoactivation. On the other hand, when they were cured with LED, the % DC values of GR significantly increased after the 2‐min‐delayed photoactivation. In light of the results, it might be stated that CLF polymerized with QTH, could be the better option. GR provided adequate chemical polymerization; therefore, it might be useful in areas in which light curing is not possible. Clinicians should consider the polymerization characteristics of dual‐cured resin composites. Crosslinked networks (NPPCS) and linear polymers (LPPCS) of poly (p‐chloro styrene) were synthesized by free‐radical polymerization of p‐chloro styrene. NPPCS networks were swollen in four different molecular weights of LPPCS solutions in toluene at three different concentrations. The equilibrium swelling results were evaluated by means of Flory‐Rehner theory to obtain network–linear polymer interaction parameter, χ′23 between NPPCS and LPPCS. It was concluded that the parameter χ′23 decreased with molecular weight but increased with concentration of LPPCS in outer solution. The solvent independent interaction parameter between NPPCS and PPCS was estimated as 0.7 by extrapolation of the values of χ′23 to zero value of the fraction ratio of solvent to linear polymer, ν13 inside the network. As well as, the binary interaction parameters, χ12 of NPPCS with benzene, ethyl benzene, n‐propyl benzene and isopropyl benzene were obtained by means of Flory‐Rehner theory at temperatures between 25 and 55°C. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This paper provides a safety evaluation of a special protected/permitted left turn signal control (Las Vegas LT Display) that has been implemented in the urbanized area of Las Vegas, Nevada. The Las Vegas LT Display eliminates the yellow trap condition for leading approach in lead/lag operation. It provides protected only left turns during certain times of day by suppressing the permitted green ball and yellow ball displays. Before and after studies were conducted using the crash data from 10 intersections. Results from the analyses indicated that no obvious safety concerns due to use of the special display.  相似文献

In this study, we used ARIMA, seasonal ARIMA (SARIMA) and alternatively the regression model with seasonal latent variable in forecasting electricity demand by using data that belongs to “Kayseri and Vicinity Electricity Joint-Stock Company” over the 1997:1–2005:12 periods. This study tries to examine the advantages of forecasting with ARIMA, SARIMA methods and with the model has seasonal latent variable to each other. The results support that ARIMA and SARIMA models are unsuccessful in forecasting electricity demand. The regression model with seasonal latent variable used in this study gives more successful results than ARIMA and SARIMA models because also this model can consider seasonal fluctuations and structural breaks.  相似文献

The introduction of naturally occurring fibrillary structured halloysite clays (HNTs) into the Nafion matrix resulted in an enhanced proton conductivity and a reduced activation energy for proton transport. To assess the effect of the various states of the HNTs as a membrane additive, the σH+ of the composite membranes (Nafion/HNTs, Nafion/HNTs-NH2, Nafion/HNTs-SO3H) was measured at 30 °C and 80 °C and at different levels of relative humidity (%RH). An overall improvement of the σH+ of the Nafion was observed in the presence of the nanotubular additives (HNTs or HNTs-NH2) which can be attributed to the high specific surface area accommodating hydrophilic functional groups and therefore contributing to the water retention/management in the composite membrane. However, the Nafion/HNT-SO3H composites are distinguished in terms of enhanced performance in σH+ which persist in the whole range of % RH levels and noted that the σH+ values are almost 2 times higher than native Nafion in the low humidity region (30%–50%) and at 80 °C. In agreement with the σH+ enhancement, the activation energy is lower than that of native Nafion indicating that the proton transport is facilitated in the presence of -SO3H modified HNTs, probably due to an improved connectivity and arrangement of ionic conducting domains.  相似文献
