Nanotechnology seems to hold the key that allows construction and building materials to replicate the features of natural systems improved until perfection during millions of years. This paper reviews current knowledge about nanotechnology and nanomaterials used by the construction industry. Examination of steel specimens tested under boundary lubrication conditions indicates the existence of three distinct processes which lead to wear particle formation: deformation and fracture of original machining marks; deformation and fracture of edges of plowing tracks; delamination. Deformation and fracture of original machining marks and the raised edges of the plowing furrows generate wear particles which are 1–15 μm in the largest dimension. The process of delamination, however, generates particles that are 100 μm wide. The formation of these large wear particles coincides with a high rate of wear and scuffing failure.  相似文献

Intermediate host snails of schistosomiasis were surveyed in this study to determine their abundance and distribution in the lake and land aquatic habitats of Lake Victoria basin of Kenya. Several sites were sampled at eight locations, both in the lake and on the land. The habitat and/or vegetation type (i.e. open water, hippo grass, hyacinth, ambatch trees, other vegetation, stream, swamp, pond, dam) of the sampled aquatic sites within the locations were also differentiated, water physicochemical parameters were determined, and the abundance of different species or taxa of phytoplankton and zooplankton were enumerated and correlated with the abundance of schistosomiasis snails in the sites. The results indicated significantly more Biomphalaria sudanica snails than Bulinus africanus snails in different physical habitats on land (Student's t‐test, P < 0.05), as well as in different locations on land (Student's t‐test, P = 0.026). Regression analyses revealed that several physicochemical parameters, including dissolved oxygen (R2 = ?0.659; n = 8; P = 0.014), pH (R2 = 0.728; n = 8; P = 0.007) and turbulence (R2 = ?0.616; n = 8; P = 0.02), were predictive of Biomphalaria spp. abundance, while pH (R= 0.610; n = 8; P = 0.02) and turbulence (R= ?0.578; n = 8; P = 0.028) were predictive of Bulinus spp. abundance in different locations in the lake. Cyanobacteria (R= 0.638; n = 8; P = 0.02) and chlorophyceae (R2 = ?0.50; n = 8; P = 0.05) were shown to be predictive of both Biomphalaria spp. and Bulinus spp. abundance in different locations in the lake. Zooplankton abundance varied significantly between different locations in the lake (One‐way anova , P < 0.001). Bosmina spp. were found to be predictive of both Biomphalaria spp. (R= ?0.627; n = 8; P = 0.01) and Bulinus spp. (R= ?0.50; n = 8; P = 0.05) in different locations in the lake. The results from this study will help inform policy regarding control measures for schistosomias and intermediate snail hosts in Lake Victoria waters, as well as in adjacent terrestrial aquatic habitats and even beyond.  相似文献

In this study processed mango juice was packed in four types of containers and stored at different temperatures for 16 weeks through which furfural level determination and organoleptic assessment were conducted. The experiment revealed an evident relationship to exist among furfural level, storage temperature and type of packing material. Furfural level failed to closely parallel flavour difference; therefore it could be regarded as one of the features concomitant juice aging rather than accepted as a satisfactory criterion of off flavour. The study relates flavour deterioration to the changes in the lipid fraction of the juice.  相似文献

Nanocomposite polymer electrolytes based on a plasticized high molecular weight poly(oxyethylene) (POE) reinforced with high aspect ratio cellulose nanoparticles were reported. The influence of tetra(ethylene) glycol dimethyl ether (TEGDME) as plasticizer is investigated. The study mainly focuses on the dynamic mechanical behavior and ionic conductivity performances. The miscibility of the blend POE/TEGDME was investigated using both thermal and mechanical investigations. Viable polymer electrolytes can be obtained from this combination, conciliating acceptable ionic conductivities and outstanding mechanical performances on a large temperature range.  相似文献

Nanocomposite materials were prepared from poly(oxyethylene) (POE) as the matrix and a stable aqueous suspension of cellulose nanocrystals extracted from tunicate as the reinforcing phase. After dissolving POE in water and mixing with the cellulose nanocrystals suspension, solid films were obtained by casting and evaporating the preparations. Resulting films were characterized using scanning electron microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis and dynamic mechanical analysis. Favorable interactions between cellulose and POE were evidenced and assumed to be partially responsible for a decrease of the crystallinity of the matrix. A thermal stabilization of the nanocomposites for temperatures higher than the melting temperature of POE was reported and ascribed to the formation of a rigid cellulosic network within the matrix assumed to be governed by a percolation effect. The formation of this percolating network was not altered by the matrix crystallization process and filler/POE interactions.  相似文献

When working close to their nominal operating point, induction motors are high-efficiency machines. However, at low load, efficiency is greatly reduced when magnetization flux is maintained at nominal value. Therefore, it is necessary to adjust the flux level according to the load, so as to decrease iron and copper losses. This paper deals with a field-oriented scheme for induction motor drives leading to efficiency optimization. It is based on optimal power factor tracking by adjusting magnetization current component with to respect the torque current component. Simulation results are presented to highlight the feasibility and validity of the proposed method  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine the acceptability of nonpenetrating, key-locked inserts in 2099 aluminum-lithium. The tests conducted to make this assessment were: (1) microscopic examination for thread damage and delaminations after key installation, (2) pull-out load at 21 °C (70 °F) and −179 °C (−290 °F), and (3) mechanical cycling tests at room temperature and −179 °C (−290 °F). The test results indicated that for the three sizes evaluated, key-locked inserts in 2099-T6 and 2099-T8 were acceptable and although delaminations did occur on some T6 temper specimens, it was only as a failure mode at ultimate load and such behavior was judged to be acceptable.  相似文献
