Intercalation of C<Subscript>60</Subscript> fullerene crystals with calcium and barium via self-propagating high-temperature synthesis

We report a process for rapid intercalation of C₆₀ fullerene crystals using self-propagating high-temperature synthesis. The process has been used to intercalate C₆₀ fullerene crystals with calcium and barium. The superconducting transition temperatures of the intercalated fullerites have been measured, and the calcium-intercalated C₆₀ fullerene crystals have been characterized by X-ray diffraction.     

Crystalline and induced anisotropy and structural defects in single-crystal spinel ferrite films

The crystalline and uniaxial anisotropy constants of single-crystal manganese and magnesium manganese ferrite spinel films have been determined experimentally. The results indicate that the structural perfection of the films, influenced by the film composition and growth conditions, has a significant effect on their anisotropy constants.     

Calculations of heat flowrates to the VVER-440 reactor vessel during interaction of corium melt with the reactor vessel

Quasi-steady-state thermal conditions of the corium bath found on a reactor vessel bottom is considered. Using approximate heat transfer models proposed earlier, a conjugate problem is solved with taking into account radiation heat transfer in the space above the bath surface. The results of calculations of heat flow-rates from the corium bath to the VVER-440 reactor vessel are presented. It is shown that water delivery to the bath surface leads to an essential decrease in the heat flowrate towards the wall in the most dangerous area, where a layer of melted steel contacts the reactor vessel, and retains a possibility of keeping the melt inside the reactor vessel under external cooling.     

Change in dielectric strength of vacuum interrupters at reduced service life

The dielectric strengths of two samples of the same type of vacuum interrupter are compared. One vacuum interrupter is a new and has not been tested for switching ability after manufacturing and the other is a vacuum interrupter with a 70% reduced service life. Tests of the dielectric strength are conducted using a standard lighting pulse. Studies have shown that electric breakdowns behind the front of a lighting pulse are caused by electric breakdowns in the screen system of the vacuum interrupter. Possible reasons for the decrease in the dialectric strength of the screen system are discussed.
