We describe the characterization, ferroelectric phase stability and polarization switching in strain‐free assemblies of PbZr0.3Ti0.7O3 (PZT) nanostructures. The 3‐dimensionally ordered macroporous structures present uniquely large areas and volumes of PZT where the microstructure is spatially modulated and the composition is homogeneous. Variable temperature powder X‐ray diffraction (XRD) studies show that the global structure is crystalline and tetragonal at room temperature and undergoes a reversible tetragonal to cubic phase transition on heating/cooling. The measured phase‐transition temperature is 50–60 °C lower than bulk PZT of the same composition. The local ferroelectric properties were assessed using piezoresponse force spectroscopy that reveal an enhanced piezoresponse from the nanostructured films and demonstrate that the switching polarization can be spatially mapped across these structures. An enhanced piezoresponse is observed in the nanostructured films which we attribute to the formation of strain free films, thus for the first time we are able to assess the effects of crystallite‐size independently of internal stress. Corresponding polarization distributions have been calculated for the bulk and nanostructured materials using a direct variational method and Landau‐Ginzburg‐Devonshire (LGD) theory. By correlating local and global characterization techniques we have for the first time unambiguously demonstrated the formation of tetragonal and ferroelectric PZT in large volume nanostructured architectures. With the wide range of materials available that can be formed into such controlled architectures we conclude that this study opens a pathway for the effective studies of nanoscale ferroelectrics in uniquely large volumes.  相似文献

Evolutionary computational techniques have been employed judiciously in various signal processing applications of late. In this paper, such an attempt has been made to design a low-pass linear-phase multiplier-less finite duration impulse response (FIR) filter using differential evolution (DE) algorithm. This particular evolutionary optimization technique has been explored to search the impulse response coefficients of the FIR filter in the form of sum of power of two (SPT) in order to avoid the multipliers during design process. The performance of the designed low-pass filter has been studied thoroughly in terms of its frequency characteristics and primitive requirement of fundamental hardware blocks. The superiority of our design has been ascertained over a number of existing techniques by various means. Finally, the proposed filter of different lengths has been implemented on a field programmable gate array (FPGA) chip for evaluating the competency of this work. The percentage improvement in hardware complexity produced by our design has also been computed and clearly listed in this paper for convenience.  相似文献

The ability of engineered cerium oxide nanoparticles to confer radioprotection was examined. Human normal and tumor cells were treated with nanoceria and irradiated, and cell survival was measured. Treatment of normal cells conferred almost 99% protection from radiation-induced cell death, whereas the same concentration showed almost no protection of tumor cells. For the first time, nanoceria is shown to confer radioprotection to a normal human breast line but not to a human breast tumor line, MCF-7.  相似文献

Nanocrystalline indium oxide (In2O3)-doped tin oxide (SnO2) thin film sensor has been sol-gel dip-coated on a microelectrochemical system (MEMS) device using a sol-gel dip-coating technique. Hydrogen (H2) at ppm-level has been successfully detected at room temperature using the present MEMS-based sensor. The room temperature H2 sensing characteristics (sensitivity, response and recovery time, and recovery rate) of the present MEMS-based sensor has been investigated as a function of air-pressure (50-600 Torr) with and without the ultraviolet (UV) radiation exposure. It has been demonstrated that, the concentration of the surface-adsorbed oxygen-ions (which is related to the sensor-resistance in air), the ppm-level H2, and the oxygen (O2) partial pressure are the three major factors, which determine the variation in the room temperature H2 sensing characteristics of the present MEMS-based sensor as a function of air-pressure.  相似文献

Cerium (Ce) is a rare earth metal that is not known to have any biological role. Cerium oxide materials of several sizes and shapes have been developed in recent years as a scaffold for catalysts. Indeed even cerium oxide nanoparticles themselves have displayed catalytic activities and antioxidant properties in tissue culture and animal models. Because of ceria's ability to cycle between the +3 and +4 states at oxygen vacancy sites, we investigated whether cerium metal would catalyze a Fenton-like reaction with hydrogen peroxide. Indeed, cerium chloride did exhibit radical production in the presence of hydrogen peroxide, as assessed by relaxation of supercoiled plasmid DNA. Radical production in this reaction was also followed by production of radical cation of 2,2'-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS). Radical scavengers and spin traps were capable of competing with ABTS for radicals produced in this cerium dependent Fenton-like reaction. Electron paramagnetic resonance experiments reveal both hydroxyl radical and superoxide anion in a reaction containing cerium and hydrogen peroxide. Based on these results we propose that cerium is capable of redox-cycling with peroxide to generate damaging oxygen radicals.  相似文献

High-performance Kevlar fiber had extensively been explored to upgraded mechanical properties of the advanced composites. Therefore, this study aimed a challenging work to grow carbon nanofibers onto the Kevlar fiber to improve its fiber-matrix interaction properties. It was successfully done through inexpensive flame deposition as well as modification of matrix with hybrid resin using polyurethane-epoxy mixture. A hand-layup method had been adopted to manufacture the composite laminates. The chemical and surface structures of the prepared laminae were examined by scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and the composite's properties were evaluated tensile test, compact tension (CT) fracture test, fractography, and differential scanning calorimetry. The surface modified Kevlar laminae with CNF were used as reinforcing layer in the epoxy and PU/epoxy hybrid resin matrices. CNF-coated heated Kevlar reinforced laminated PU/epoxy hybrid composites (CNF-Kev/PU-Epoxy) showed highest elongation 47% and fracture toughness (11.7 MPa√m) along with good UTS 139 MPa. Therefore, these hybrid nanocomposites developed by simple inexpensive method would be the potential candidates for several advanced applications particularly in defense, automobile, aerospace, and spacecraft applications. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
