Mixture of starch and amorphous sodium polyborate (SPB) is found to show high flame retardancy, when its aqueous solution is deposited and dried on organic polymer materials such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET) nonwoven, rigid polyurethane (RPU) foam, and polypropylene (PP) nonwoven. The PET nonwoven (10 mm thickness) and the RPU foam (10 mm thickness) coated with the mixture endure the premixed flame of butane gas burner with length of 100 mm for more than 12 min. The PP nonwoven (0.7 mm thickness) endures the nonpremixed flame with length of 65 mm in the 45 degrees Meckel burner test for more than 2 min. The backside temperatures in the both tests remain below 130 °C. The thermal analyses and the SEM observation indicate the mechanism that the SPB foam promotes the carbonization of starch and that the carbonized layer together with the SPB foam insulate inside from oxygen and heat.  相似文献

Gas purge intended to minimize residual water in a polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEFC) during shutdown is critically important for cell performance and durability under freeze/thaw and cold-start cycling. This paper presents an experimental study of short-duration gas purge relevant to automotive application. A novel experimental procedure has been devised to achieve excellent reproducibility and consistency of purge data. Using the high-frequency resistance (HFR) of the cell as an indicator of membrane water content and hence of purge effectiveness, it is found that the purge performance can be uniquely described by two characteristic parameters, one representing the diffusive flux of water vapor across the catalyst layer and gas diffusion layer, and the other standing for the convective flux of water vapor down the channel with purge gas. A large set of purge data obtained over a range of purge cell temperature, purge gas flowrate and relative humidity and for two purge gases (N2 and He) have been organized as function of these two parameters. Due to its threefold higher water diffusivity, Helium gas purge is seen to be superior over N2, particularly under purge conditions controlled by through-plane vapor diffusion such as lower purge temperatures and shorter purge durations. It is also shown that the HFR after purge typically decreases in a time scale of 1–2 h and that the extent of HFR relaxation generally increases with higher HFR or lower membrane water content after purge.  相似文献

The tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) provides an attractive means of producing foreign peptides in plants. In this study, a TMV-based vector was designed such that a fragment encoding 15 amino acids of the poliovirus peptide (PVP) derived from the viral capsid proteins VP3 and VP1 of poliovirus type 1 Sabin was inserted downstream of the six-base 3' context nucleotide sequence of the TMV coat protein (CP) gene. This design allowed readthrough at the amber stop codon, thereby producing the chimeric TMV particle with both intact CP and CP-fusion protein (CP-PVP) in Nicotiana tabacum cv. Samsun infected with the TMV vector. The TMVCP-PVP virus particle induced antibodies against PVP as well as TMVCP in mice after intraperitoneal immunization. These data illustrate the potential of the readthrough translation system with TMVCP for antigen presentation and vaccine production.  相似文献

To develop x-ray mirrors for micropore optics, smooth silicon (111) sidewalls obtained after anisotropic wet etching of a silicon (110) wafer were studied. A sample device with 19 microm wide (111) sidewalls was fabricated using a 220 microm thick silicon (110) wafer and potassium hydroxide solution. For what we believe to be the first time, x-ray reflection on the (111) sidewalls was detected in the angular response measurement. Compared to ray-tracing simulations, the surface roughness of the sidewalls was estimated to be 3-5 nm, which is consistent with the atomic force microscope and the surface profiler measurements.  相似文献

In situ infrared (IR) and Raman microspectroscopy have been conducted on Neoproterozoic, organic-walled microfossils (prokaryotic fossils) in doubly polished, petrographic thin sections in order to detect their spectral signatures. The microfossils are very well preserved and occur in black chert from the approximately 850 million-year-old Bitter Springs Formation, Northern Territory, Australia. Raman microspectroscopy on two species of microfossils, one a filament and the other a coccoid, shows disordered peaks (D peak, 1340 cm(-1)) and graphite peaks (G peak, 1600 cm(-1)), indicating that they consist of disordered carbonaceous materials. IR micro-mapping results of the filament reveal that the distributions of peak heights at 2920 cm(-1) (aliphatic CH(2)), 1585 cm(-1) (aromatic C-C), and 1370 cm(-1) (aliphatic CH(3)) match the shape of the filamentous microfossil. These results suggest that IR microspectroscopy can be used for in situ characterization of organic polar signatures that morphologically indicate microfossils embedded in chert by using doubly-polished rock (petrographic) thin section samples. Further, these methods can be applied to controversial microfossil-like structures to test their biogenic nature.  相似文献
