It has been shown that tilt and exercise elicit significant changes in autonomic activity in normal subjects and that submaximal exercise causes a greater reduction in heart rate variability (HRV) in animals susceptible to ventricular fibrillation (VF). Whether there is an abnormal HRV response to tilt and exercise in patients at risk of sudden cardiac death (SCD) remains unknown. Short-term HRV before and during passive tilt and exercise was studied in 12 survivors of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest with documented VF and compared with 12 age- and sex-matched normal controls. No patient had significant structural heart disease or left ventricular dysfunction. HRV was computed as total-frequency (TF, 0.01 to 1.00 Hz), low-frequency (LF, 0.04 to 0.15 Hz) and high-frequency (HF, 0.15 to 0.40 Hz) components. There was no significant difference between normal controls and SCD survivors in HRV before or during tilt or submaximal exercise testing. The HF component was significantly decreased during tilt compared with that in the supine position in both normal controls (5.85 +/- 0.61 vs 5.08 +/- 0.95 In(msec2), p = 0.005) and patients (5.58 +/- 1.49 versus 4.74 +/- 1.18 In(msec2), p = 0.003). There was again no significant change in the TF or LF components during tilt in either patients or controls. All frequency components were significantly decreased during submaximal exercise testing in both patients and controls. In recent years there have been many reported cases of corrosion failure in cement concrete pipelines. In the majority of cases, the failures have been attributed to rebar corrosion which is caused by the permeability of chloride from low resistivity soil and subsequent attack on a passive layer on an iron bar in the structure. As a possible alternative to cementitious materials, some organic coatings based on olefin, vinyl or epoxy-based polymers have been considered. However, due to a paucity of data on the behavior of these coatings in aqueous media— particularly product water—the possibility of their application in water transmission systems in the Kingdom has not been fully exploited. This paper deals with the studies carried out on the corrosion and mechanical behavior of fusion bonded epoxy (FBE) coating on steel in aqueous media which include product water, distilled water and saline water. The mechanical testings on coating include adhesion, bending and cathodic disbondment testings. The corrosion studies include immersion testing under static and dynamic conditions, autoclave tests and accelerated (salt-fog) tests. The analysis of results indicates chemical inertness of FBE coating in either of the aforementioned water used during testing, good adhesion and no damage to the coating during bending. Cathodic disbondment tests indicate that FBE coating sustains under cathodic protection (CP) conditions. In general, the results of mechanical and corrosion tests indicate that FBE is a promising material for internal coating on steel in water transmission systems.  相似文献

Morphological studies of high density polyethylene (HDPE) reinforced by mica flakes has been investigated. The mica flakes were surface treated by silane and titanate coupling agents. Effects of these treatments on the polymer-mica interface is discussed. It is found that surface treatment, particularly silane treated composites, have better adhesion between the reinforcing agent and the polymer matrix. This effect can only be detected when the mica concentration is higher than 20 weight percent. This interfacial adhesion could not be seen across the surface of the sample but only when the measurements were made parallel to the surface.  相似文献

In this study, new cationic homopolymer and anionic copolymer were synthesized, and deposited onto polyglycolide sutures using a layer‐by‐layer assembly technique. The coated sutures were rendered antibacterial by chlorinating with dilute solution of household bleach solution at pH 7. The chlorination treatment transformed the N? H groups of anionic copolymer into N‐halamine structures. The N‐halamine‐modified sutures were challenged with Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli O157:H7 bacteria at different contact times. The suture with chlorine loading of 0.22% completely inactivated both bacterial strains in 30 min contact time. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and analytical titration confirmed the successful deposition of the N‐halamine multilayers. The effect of layer‐by‐layer coatings of polyelectrolytes on the chlorine loading and antibacterial efficacy of sutures was evaluated. The straight‐pull and knot‐pull strength tests performed on the sutures reported slight decline in tensile properties after chlorination treatment. The in vitro hemolysis and cytocompatibility tests revealed that the N‐halamines‐based antibacterial sutures were biocompatible. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. This article demonstrates the effect of waveguide and material parameters on thermal sensitivity trends adopted by different cladding modes based on long-period fiber grating. Three-layer fiber geometry-based mathematical model has been implemented to estimate cladding modes. It is observed that for a cladding mode, the sign and magnitude of thermal sensitivity slope depend upon the designed grating period closer to period at dispersion turn around point. The \(\hbox {LP}_{10}\) and \(\hbox {LP}_{11}\) cladding modes have shown blueshift and maximum thermal sensitivity above all other modes at designed grating periods of 225 and \(195\,\upmu \hbox {m}\), respectively. The material parameter of fiber (thermo-optic coefficient) has also resulted in increment in sensitivity with the increase in difference amid its values for core and cladding region.  相似文献

The increasing number of mobile users raises issues about coverage extension in some areas such as rural zones, indoor or underground locations: one of suggestion solution to accommodate this growing of mobile user is femtocell. Femtocell have been attracting considerable attention in mobile communications, it is a small base station that install to improve the indoor coverage of a given cellular and to enhance user's capacity. Call admission control and resource allocation infemtocell's hybrid mode are an essential performance promotion issue. Developing methods for femtocell utilization is very comparative nowadays. The two major limitations of wireless communication are capacity and range. The main contribution of our paper is developing resource allocation scheme that can manage the femocell resources between subscriber (femtocell user) and non-subscriber (macrocell user in order to maximizing the system utilizations, we provide a mechanism that leads to serve more users by admitting more subscribers basing on adjusting QoS of the connected users.  相似文献

Design of a fuzzy logic power system controller with satisfactory performance is not an easy task. The difficulties come from two aspects. First, design of a fuzzy logic controller mainly uses the experience of the human experts. To acquire enough heuristic knowledge from the domain experts and to represent this kind of knowledge appropriately with a set of fuzzy rules present difficulties. Second, it is difficult to appropriately tune the parameters used in the fuzzy logic controller. These parameters are commonly determined by a “trial and error” method which is rather time consuming. In this paper, genetic algorithm is introduced to design an optimal fuzzy logic controller. The proposed method has been used to design an optimal fuzzy logic excitation controller for a generating unit. Test results with the fuzzy logic controller show very satisfactory results  相似文献

Kinetic energy, angular distribution, and isobaric cross section data for A = 7-25 fragments formed in p + 27Al reaction at bombarding energy of 180 MeV are compared with the calculations of the Binary Cascade Model (BIC), the Cascade Exciton Model (CEM), JQMD/PHITS, as well as the Statistical Model with Final State Interaction (SMFSI). For completeness, the kinetic energy spectra of light particles (n, p, α) formed in p + 27Al reaction at bombarding energy of 156 MeV are also presented. A general agreement between the data and predictions of these models is found. However, disagreement with the data for the yields of light-mass fragments as well as near-target fragments is also found and discussed. The importance of this comparative study to simulation and analysis of radiation effects on microscopic electrical components operating in space is also discussed.  相似文献
