Residential energy cost is an important part of the household budget and could vary significantly across different population groups in many countries. In the United States, many studies have analyzed household fuel consumption by fuel type, including electricity, natural gas, fuel oil, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and by geographic areas. Past research has also demonstrated significant variation in residential energy use across various population groups, including white, black, and Latino. However, our research shows that residential energy demand by fuel type for Latinos, the fastest growing population group, has not been explained by economic and non-economic factors in any statistical model in public domain. The purpose of this paper was to discuss energy demand and expenditure patterns for Latino and non-Latino households in hhe United States as a case example of analyzing residential energy consumption across different population groups in a country. The linear expenditure system model developed by Stone and Geary is the basis of the statistical model developed to explain fuel consumption and expenditures for Latino households. For comparison, the models are also developed for non-Latino, black, and non-black households. These models estimate energy consumption of and expenditures for electricity, natural gas, fuel oil, and LPG by various households at the national level. Significant variations in the patterns of these fuels consumption for Latinos and non-Latinos are highlighted. The model methodology and results of this research should be useful to energy policymakers in government and industry, researches, and academicians who are concerned with economic and energy issues related to various population groups in their country.  相似文献

Knowledge of the length–weight relationships (LWRs) of fish is an important tool to understand fish body form, growth pattern, stock management and their conservation. The present study focused on investigating the length–weight relationships for five catfish species, Pachypterus atherinoides (Bloch, 1794), belonging to family Horabagridae; Batasio batasio (Hamilton, 1822) family Bagridae; Bagarius yarrelli (Sykes, 1839), family Gogangra viridescens (Hamilton, 1822); and Sisor rhabdophorus (Hamilton, 1822) belonging to family Sisoridae. Specimens were collected from the middle stretch of the Ganga River in India from November 2016 to May 2018. A total of 174 specimens of five fish species were collected, and their total lengths were measured to the nearest centimetre and the body weight to the nearest gram. The value of the parameter slope (b) of LWRs of the five species ranged from 2.86 (B. yarrelli) to 3.16 (G. viridescens), with a mean value of 2.99. The results of the present study documented the new maximum total length (TL) for P. atherinoides and S. rhabdophorus. The present study also provides the first reference regarding LWRs for S. rhabdophorus.  相似文献

Natural convection heat transfer in Al2O3/water nanofluid is analyzed using the single-component nonhomogeneous lattice Boltzmann method (SCNHLBM). There exists a contradictory observation between the numerical and experimental works in the literature with respect to the heat transfer of nanofluids in natural convection. Nanofluid is treated as a single component with nonhomogeneous particle distribution introduced by a concentration transport equation of nanoparticles by considering the Brownian and thermophoretic diffusions. The average Nusselt number is found to deteriorate with increasing nanoparticle volume fraction; thus the trend of the experimental results is captured using SCNHLBM. Addition of Brownian and thermophoretic diffusion results in additional thermal diffusion and hence reduces the convective transport of heat. The contribution of Brownian and thermophoretic diffusions in heat transfer deterioration is revealed.  相似文献

Pigmentation of murine cardiac tricuspid valve leaflet is associated with melanocyte concentration, which affects its stiffness. Owing to its biological and viscoelastic nature, estimation of the in situ stiffness measurement becomes a challenging task. Therefore, quasi-static and nanodynamic mechanical analysis of the leaflets of the mouse tricuspid valve is performed in the current work. The mechanical properties along the leaflet vary with the degree of pigmentation. Pigmented regions of the valve leaflet that contain melanocytes displayed higher storage modulus (7–10 GPa) than non-pigmented areas (2.5–4 GPa). These results suggest that the presence of melanocytes affects the viscoelastic properties of the mouse atrioventricular valves and are important for their proper functioning in the organism.  相似文献

A multichannel reservation-based channel-access protocol is investigated in this paper. The available system bandwidth is divided into distinct frequency channels. Under the protocol, one channel (the control channel) is used to exchange reservation messages and the remaining channels (the traffic channels) are used for information-bearing traffic. The performance of this scheme is compared to that of a single-channel reservation-based protocol. A simple contention-based slotted-Aloha protocol is also considered. Performance results take into account the effects of multiple-access interference on acquisition and packet errors. Results show that the reservation-based approach is advantageous under conditions of high traffic. In addition, a pacing mechanism that mitigates multiple-access interference and promotes fairness is described, and results are presented that demonstrate its effectiveness. A high-order curvature-compensated subthreshold voltage reference is proposed in this paper. The proposed curvature-compensated voltage reference consists of two supply-independent first-order voltage references and a curvature compensation circuit. The supply-independent first-order voltage reference uses a negative feedback loop which improves the line sensitivity and eliminates the demand of operational amplifier, whereas the curvature compensation circuit provides high-order temperature-compensated output reference voltage. The proposed curvature-compensated voltage reference provides an output reference voltage of 118.54 mV with a temperature coefficient of 21.5 ppm/°C over a wide temperature range of −60°C to 120°C . The power supply rejection ratio and line sensitivity are observed as −68.64 dB (for the frequency range of 1 Hz to 100 Hz) and 0.035%/V (for the supply voltage varies from 0.85 V to 2.5 V), respectively. The values of output noise at the frequencies of 1 kHz and 10 kHz without using any capacitive filter are obtained as 179.13 nV/ √ Hz and 123.87 nV/ √ Hz , respectively.  相似文献
