Using Swedish micro data, the paper examines the impact of local public services on community choice. The choice of community is modelled as a choice between a discrete set of alternatives. It is found that, given taxes, high spending on child care attracts migrants. Less conclusive results are obtained with respect to the role of spending on education and elderly care. High local taxes deter migrants. Relaxing the independence of the irrelevant alternatives assumption, by estimating a mixed logit model, has a significant impact on the results. 相似文献

Aluminium bond wires are exposed to pulsed current with varying duty cycles, pulse widths and current amplitudes. How these parameters influence the temperature rise in the wire and what it takes to damage or break it are studied. There are two possible failure modes. One is burn-out due to high current amplitude, the other is metallurgical flexure fatigue at the bond heel. Both failure modes are described. The thermal time constant of the wire is determined for different wire lengths. SEM studies of wires during pulsing are made to see structural changes in the wire when it heats. The bond wire may suffer from damage, which affects the reliability, but it may still function electrically. 相似文献

Ti3O5 and Ti4O7 were grown by chemical vapour deposition in a hot-wall reactor at 1015 °C and a total pressure of 50 Torr. The reaction gas mixture contained TiCl4, CO2 and H2. For growth of single-phase coatings the vapour composition has to be controlled accurately. Ti3O5 was grown at near-equilibrium conditions, while Ti4O7 could only be grown under conditions far from equilibrium. We studied the antibody response including antibody-secreting cells (ASC) in the female genital tract of mice after mucosal immunizations with the recombinant B subunit of cholera toxin (rCTB) perorally, intraperitoneally, vaginally, and intranasally (i.n.). The strongest genital antibody responses as measured with a novel perfusion-extraction method were induced after vaginal and i.n. immunizations, and these routes also gave rise to specific immunoglobulin A (IgA) and IgG ASC in the genital mucosa. Specific ASC in the iliac lymph nodes, which drain the female genital tract, were seen only after vaginal immunization. Progesterone treatment increased the ASC response in the genital tissue after all mucosal immunizations but most markedly after vaginal immunization. We also tested rCTB as a carrier for human gamma globulin (HGG) and the effect of adding cholera toxin (CT) as an adjuvant for the induction of systemic and genital antibody responses to HGG after vaginal and i.n. immunizations. Vaginal immunizations with HGG conjugated to rCTB resulted in high levels of genital anti-HGG antibodies whether or not CT was added, while after i.n. immunization the strongest antibody response was seen with the conjugate together with CT. In summary, vaginal and i.n. immunization give rise to a specific mucosal immune response including ASC in the genital tissue, and vaginal immunization also elicits ASC in the iliac lymph nodes. We have also shown that rCTB can act as an efficient carrier for a conjugated antigen for induction of a specific antibody response in the genital tract of mice after vaginal or i.n. immunization. 相似文献

Many of the best known and most successful examples of competitively advantageous information systems are those that link the focal organizations with their suppliers, distributors or end-users; so called inter-organizational information systems. There is little published research describing the evolutionary processes of such systems. This article presents two, earlier unpublished, longitudinal Swedish case studies of successful evolution of inter-organizational information systems. The effect of the natural convection on the formation of macrosegregations has been experimentally and theoretically analyzed.
The Sn-10 pct Pb and Pb-15 pct Sn alloys were unidirectionally solidified. The temperature gradient and the solidification
direction were perpendicular to the gravity vector. The concentration and temperature gradients in the samples cause natural
con- vection. Large macrosegregations were observed in the sample. Two different convection modes were found in the two alloys
caused by different density gradients in the two-phase region. This difference in convection causes an enrichment of Pb in
the lower part of the last solidified regions in the Sn-10 pct Pb alloy and an enrichment of Sn in the upper part in the Pb-15
pct Sn alloy. Computer simulation of the convection mode models the convection pattern and the solidification process during
which macrosegregation occurs.

Today's electron microscopes have a resolution sufficient to resolve supramolecular structures. However, the methods used to prepare biological samples for electron microscopy often limit our ability to achieve the resolution that is theoretically possible. We use whole mounts of detergent-extracted cells grown on Formvar-coated gold grids as a model system to evaluate various steps in the preparation of biological samples for high resolution scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Factors that are important in determining the structure and composition of detergent-extracted cells include the nature of the detergent and the composition of the extraction vehicle. Chelation of calcium is extremely important to stabilize and preserve the cytoskeletal filaments. We have also demonstrated both morphologically and by gel electrophoresis that treatment of cells with bifunctional protein crosslinkers before or during extraction with detergent can significantly enhance the preservation of both proteins and supramolecular structures. The methods used to dry samples are a major determinant of the quality of structural preservation. For cytoskeletons freeze-drying (FD) is superior to critical point-drying (CPD), one reason being that CPD samples have to be dehydrated, thereby causing more shrinkage as compared to FD samples. The high pressures to which samples are exposed during CPD may also cause increased shrinkage, and water contamination during CPD causes severe structural damage. We have obtained the best structural preservation of detergent-extracted and fixed cells by manually plunging them into liquid propane and drying over night in a freeze-dryer. The factor that most limits achievement of high resolution in SEM is the metal coat, which has to be very thin, uniform, and free of grain in order not to hide structures or to create artifactual ones. We have found that sputter-coating with 1-3 nm of tungsten (W) or niobium (Nb) gives extremely fine-grained films as well as satisfactory emission of secondary electrons. These samples can also be examined at high resolution by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM). The best preservation and visualization of supramolecular structures have been obtained using cryosputtering, in which the samples are freeze-dried and then sputter-coated within the freeze-dryer while still frozen. 相似文献

In Experiment 1, groups of mice were administered either saline or MPTP (2 x 30 mg/kg, s.c., separated by a 24-hr interval) 30 min after being injected either PBN (15, 50 or 150 mg/kg, s.c., low, medium and high doses, respectively) or L-Deprenyl (0.25 or 10.0 mg/kg, s.c., low and high doses, respectively), the reference compound used, or saline. Tests of spontaneous motor activity 14 days later indicated that the MPTP-induced hypokinesia for locomotion and rearing was alleviated by prior administration with PBN (50 or 150 mg/kg) or L-Deprenyl (10.0 mg/kg); lower doses of PBN (15 mg/kg) and L-Deprenyl (0.25 mg/kg) did not affect the MPTP-induced deficits. Dopamine (DA) concentrations in the striatum confirmed a more severe loss of DA in the MPTP, PBN (15) + MPTP and Deprenyl(0.25) + MPTP groups than in the control group. Significant protection of DA was observed in the PBN(50) + MPTP, PBN(150) + MPTP and Deprenyl(10) + MPTP groups that did not exhibit an hypokinetic behaviour. In Experiment 2, the effects of repeated treatment with PBN (50 mg/kg, s.c. over 12 days), post-MPTP, were studied in aged (15-month-old) and young (3-month-old) mice. Subchronic administration of PBN increased substantially the motor activity of old and young mice that had received MPTP. Aged control (saline) mice showed an activity deficit compared to young control mice; this deficit was abolished by repeated PBN treatment. The results suggest that moderate-to-high doses of PBN whether injected in a single dose prior to MPTP or subchronically following MPTP injections may afford protective effects against both the functional changes and DA-loss caused by MPTP treatment, possibly through an antioxidant mechanism. 相似文献

In the modeling of microsegregation, the partition coefficient is usually calculated using data from the equilibrium phase diagrams. The aim of this study was to experimentally and theoretically analyze the partition coefficient in binary aluminum--copper alloys. The sam- ples were analyzed by differential thermal analysis (DTA), which were melted and quenched from different temperatures during solidifica- tion. The mass fraction and composition of phases were measured by image processing and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) equipped with an energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) unit. These data were used to calculate as the experimental partition coefficients with four different methods. The experimental and equilibrium partition coefficients were used to model the concentration profile in the primary phase. The modeling results show that the profiles calculated by the experimental partition coefficients are more consistent with the experi- mental profiles, compared to those calculated using the equilibrium partition coefficients. 相似文献
