We report the effect of topological as well as lattice vacancy defects on the electro-thermal transport properties of the metallic zigzag graphene nano ribbons at their ballistic limit. We employ the density function theory–Non equilibrium green’s function combination to calculate the transmission details. We then present an elaborated study considering the variation in the electrical current and the heat current transport with the change in temperature as well as the voltage gradient across the nano ribbons. The comparative analysis shows, that in the case of topological defects, such as the Stone-Wales defect, the electrical current transport is minimum. Besides, for the voltage gradient of 0.5 Volt and the temperature gradient of 300 K, the heat current transport reduces by \({\sim }62\,\%\) and \({\sim }50\,\%\) for the cases of Stones-Wales defect and lattice vacancy defect respectively, compared to that of the perfect one.  相似文献

Polymeric nanocomposites embedded with nontoxic antimicrobial agents have recently gained potential industrial significance, mainly for their applicability to preserve food quality and ensure safety. In this study, a poly(butylene adipate‐co‐terephthalate) (PBAT)/organoclay (CMMT) based nanocomposite film doped with sodium benzoate (SB) as antimicrobial agent was prepared by a solution mixing process. A homogenous dispersion of organoclay (cetyltrimethylammonium‐modified montmorillonite [CMMT]) in PBAT matrix was observed by X‐ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. PBAT/CMMT nanocomposite film showed higher barrier properties against water and methanol vapor compared to the PBAT film. The release of SB from PBAT and its nanocomposite film was measured and the relevant data were fitted to the Weibull model. The higher values of Weibull's shape factor and scale parameter as corroborated by experimental findings indicated faster rate of SB release from PBAT/CMMT/SB nanocomposite film, when compared to the pristine PBAT film. Bacterial inhibition studies were accomplished against 2 food pathogenic bacteria, Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus, by determining the zone of inhibition and corresponding growth profiles. Both bacterial inhibition studies and growth profiles established that PBAT/CMMT/SB demonstrated better antimicrobial activity than PBAT/SB film. Therefore, PBAT/CMMT/SB nanocomposite film can be used for food packaging application as it showed good barrier properties and antimicrobial activity against food pathogenic bacteria.  相似文献

Successful food hygiene training and the consent of safe food handling practices learnt during training are critical elements in the control of food-borne illnesses throughout the world. It is true for food handlers and vendors belonging to all sectors. But, it is all the more urgent for street vendors because they are more exposed to environmental hazards and are predominantly from much weaker socio-economic backgrounds and yet cater to the general mass. Using a cross-sectional study design a sample of 80 street food vendors were selected and provided with training to evaluate the existing Knowledge, Attitude and Practice (KAP) regarding food safety and hygiene and the change of the same after training interventions. Responses regarding KAP on food safety and hygiene before and after training revealed that there was a significant change in their perception to food safety knowledge and also practices. The knowledge level of the food vendors increased from an average 24.35%–66.2% after training interventions. The overall performance rating of full adoption of good hygiene practices by the vendors ranged from 37.5% to 50.8% in post-training period.  相似文献

We consider the problem of scheduling a set of jobs on a system that offers certain resource, wherein the amount of resource offered varies over time. For each job, the input specifies a set of possible scheduling instances, where each instance is given by starting time, ending time, profit and resource requirement. A feasible solution selects a subset of job instances such that at any timeslot, the total requirement by the chosen instances does not exceed the resource available at that timeslot, and at most one instance is chosen for each job. The above problem falls under the well-studied framework of unsplittable flow problem on line. The generalized notion of scheduling possibilities captures the standard setting concerned with release times and deadlines. We present improved algorithms based on the primal–dual paradigm, where the improvements are in terms of approximation ratio, running time and simplicity.  相似文献

Conoidal shells are very popular roofing units owing to their aesthetic elegance and stiffness. Many parts of the globe, which were earlier assumed to be seismologically stable, are now being considered as earthquake prone. Hence the necessity to build light structures using composites has become very important. In this paper an eight-noded isoparametric shell element is applied for analyzing the bending behavior of delaminated composite conoidal shells under a uniformly distributed load with different practical boundary conditions. To ensure compatibility of deformation and equilibrium of forces and moments at the delamination crack front, a multipoint constraint algorithm is incorporated, which leads to an unsymmetrical stiffness matrix. This formulation is validated through the solution of benchmark problems. Lamination, curvature, and extent of delamination area are varied to compare the performances of delaminated conoidal shells against those with no damage. The results are carefully observed, and a set of conclusions is presented at the end of the paper.  相似文献

This paper presents a system developed for on-line vibration control on a turning lathe. Relative vibration between the workpiece and the cutting tool is sensed with the help of a bifurcated bunch of optical fibres which is then phase shifted, amplified and fed back to a specially designed piezoelectric vibrator supporting the tool. Whenever a vibration occurs, leading the machine tool-cutting process system to instability, the close-dloop feedback contour, with the help of the vibrator-exciter, generates an equal and opposite force to stabilize the vibration. Results obtained by mathematical modelling and experimental investigations indicate a significant improvement in the dynamic characteristics of the machine tool resulting in considerably higher productivity, accuracy and finish.  相似文献

InxGa1 − xN/GaN heterostructures and quantum wells (QWs) are particularly important in the application of III-V nitride materials for light emitting diodes and laser diodes. The photoluminescence (PL) emissions from InxGa1 − xN/GaN QW structures have been reported, where, for successive annealing operations, the PL peak suffers a primary red shift, followed by a blue shift. The observed phenomenon remains unexplained because of its complexity. This paper is intended towards a proper explanation of the observed experimental results through suitable quantum mechanical models and computations, whether the band gap of InN is 1.95 eV or 0.7 eV.  相似文献

Mycobacterium tuberculosis is a globally successful pathogen,infecting more than one third of total world's population. Thesebacteria have the remarkable ability to persist in the hostfor long periods of time unrecognized by the immune system andthen to re-emerge later in life causing the disease. The physiologyof such persistent or dormant bacilli is not very well characterized.Some evidence suggests that the dormant bacilli survive in anutrient-deprived state that is similar to the stationary phaseof the bacteria with respect to gene expression and physiology.Under this assumption we have studied the survival of Mycobacteriumsmegmatis in carbon starvation conditions as a model for mycobacterialpersistence. M.smegmatis, being a fast-growing strain, servesas a good model to study starvation responses. Using the two-dimensionalelectrophoresis-based proteomics approach, we identified a proteinwhich was found to be expressed preferentially under starvationconditions. This protein is homologous to a family of proteinscalled Dps (DNA binding Protein from Starved cells) that areknown to protect DNA under various kinds of environmental stressesand its existence has, so far, not been reported in mycobacteria.Upon expression and purification of this protein, we observedthat it has non-specific DNA-binding ability. Formation of acage-like dodecamer structure is a characteristic feature ofDps. Using comparative modelling we were able to show that Dpsfrom M.smegmatis could form a dodecamer structure similar tothe crystal structure of Dps from Escherichia coli.  相似文献

In pre-labelled A549 cells epidermal growth factor (EGF) (10 nM) stimulates the release of [5,6,8,9,11,12,14,15-3H(N)]-arachidonic acid (3H-AA) by approximately 70%. Increasing Ca2+i with thapsigargin (50 nM) stimulates 3H-AA release by approximately 120%. However, the combined use of these two agents results in a synergistic stimulation of 3H-AA release by over 700%. The EGF stimulated release is sensitive to pertussis toxin (10 ng/mL) and guanosine 5'-O-(2-thiodiphosphate) suggesting a G protein-mediated event. This is supported by the fact that the G protein activators AlF-4 and guanosine 5'-O-(2-thiotriphosphate) both stimulate 3H-AA release. The stimulation of 3H-AA release by both EGF or direct G protein activation is completely blocked following pre-treatment for 3 hr with 1 nM dexamethasone. This effect is reversed with a neutralizing antibody to lipocortin-1 (1 microgram/mL) suggesting that this protein mediates the inhibitory effects of glucocorticoids on agonist activated 3H-AA release. Thapsigargin stimulation of 3H-AA release is insensitive to dexamethasone treatment. A peptide fragment from the N-terminus of lipocortin-1-Lc13-25 (20-200 micrograms/mL) mimics the effect of glucocorticoid in suppressing both EGF and G protein activated 3H-AA release. A peptide with Me-Tyr substituting Tyr21 is much reduced in activity suggesting that the presence of this residue is essential. As peptide Lc13-25 is not derived from the Ca2+/phospholipid binding domain of the native protein then sequestration of phospholipid substrate for PLA2 remains an unlikely mechanism of action for this peptide.  相似文献

Compared to normal volunteers, coronary vasodilation reserve is reduced in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy but not in rowing athletes with left ventricular hypertrophy.
