This article details permeation tests that were performed on sheet samples of elastomers, over a wide range of pressures and temperatures, to study their effects on gas diffusion and solubility. It also explains how ageing is affected by gas permeation, and how the permeation test results can be used as input data for finite element analysis to aid the design of elastomeric components.  相似文献

A rat milk substitute containing lower amounts of palmitic and oleic acid in the triacylglycerols in comparison to natural rat milk was fed to artificially reared rat pups from day 7 after birth to day 14. Pups reared by their mother served as controls. Free trideuterated (D3) palmitic acid [(C2H3)(CH2)14COOH, 98 atom % D] and free perdeuterated (D31) palmitic acid [C15 2H31COOH, 99 atom % D] in equal quantity were mixed into the triacylglycerols of the milk substitute in an amount equal to 100% of the palmitic acid in the triacylglycerols. A control milk substitute contained unlabeled free palmitic acid in an amount equal to 100% of the palmitic acid in the triacylglycerols of the milk substitute. The objective was to determine if palmitic acid in the diet contributed significantly to the palmitic acid content of developing brain and other organs. The methyl esters of the fatty acids were analyzed by gas chromatography and the palmitic acid methyl ester was examined by fast atom bombardment mass spectrometry. The proportion of deuterated methyl palmitate as a percentage of total palmitate was determined; 32% of the palmitic acid in liver and 12% of the palmitic acid in lung were trideuterated and perdeuterated palmitic acid in approximately equal amounts. The brain, by contrast, did not contain the deuterated palmitic acid moiety. Quantitation of palmitic acid and total fatty acids revealed a significant accumulation in organs in the interval from 7 to 14 days of age. Under our experimental conditions, labeled palmitic acid does not enter the brain. Consequently, we conclude that the developing brain produces all required palmitic acid byde novo synthesis.  相似文献

The development of a photo‐responsive micellar system capable of triggering cell death is reported. Precursors of the micelles are synthesized by connecting a lipophilic chain to a hydrophilic polyethylene glycol via a photo‐labile nitrobenzyl group. The resulting amphiphilic units are self‐assembled in water forming 12 nm micelles that are readily internalized into cells. Upon photo‐irradiation, micelles undergo cleavage and yield a cytotoxic nitrosobenzaldehyde derivative, which significantly inhibits the proliferation of MDA‐MB‐231 cells under standard in vitro conditions.  相似文献

Polyepichlorohydrin (PECH) rubbers were found to toughen epoxy resins based on the diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) and cured with piperidine. The degree of toughening depends on the molecular weight of the PECH and on the curing temperature. Best toughening was achieved with PECH of the highest nominal molecular weight of 3400 (Hydrin 10 × 2). Hydrin 10 × 1 (nominal molecular weight 1700) did not toughen the epoxy resin unless bisphenol A was also added, whereas Hydrin 10 × 2 toughened it in the absence of bisphenol A. Curing resins containing bisphenol A and Hydrin 10 × 1 at 160°C resulted in a slightly more brittle resin than when cured at 120°C. The effect of PECH rubbers on the Tg, modulus, and hot/wet properties is similar to that of carboxy-terminated butadiene-acrylonitrile rubbers (CTBN). Dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA) and scanning electron micrographs (SEM) of fractured surfaces show that the PECH separates as a discrete phase during curing. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

A surveillance study of nosocomial blood stream infections [Surveillance and Control of Pathogens of Epidemiologic Importance (SCOPE)] was conducted during a 14-month period in 1995 to 1996 in approximately 50 American medical centers. Among the 4725 blood stream infections, the etiologic agent was Enterobacter spp. in 230, Citrobacter freundii in 24, and Serratia marcescens in 65. The vast majority of these isolates (89%) had been sent to the University of Iowa including 198 Enterobacter spp. (46 Enterobacter aerogenes, 141 Enterobacter cloacae, 11 other Enterobacter spp.), 23 C. freundii, and 62 S. marcescens. Because these species are capable of producing Amp C beta-lactamase, we examined their susceptibility to 12 broad-spectrum antimicrobial agents. The frequency of resistance to ceftazidime and the molecular epidemiology of ceftazidime-resistant strains was also examined. Among the Enterobacter spp. and C. freundii isolates, resistance to third generation cephalosporins (ceftazidime, ceftriaxone) and broad-spectrum semisynthetic penicillins (piperacillin), with or without an enzyme inhibitor (piperacillin/tazobactam), was high, e.g., 35 to 50%. The S. marcescens isolates were quite susceptible to all agents tested. Both imipenem and cefepime were active against virtually all isolates tested including 84 stably derepressed Amp C-producing ceftazidime-resistant strains of Enterobacter spp. and C. freundii. The overall rank order of activity for the six best agents against these Amp C-producing strains was: imipenem (100% susceptible) > amikacin = cefepime (98.6%) > ciprofloxacin = gentamicin = ofloxacin (93.6 to 94.0%). Molecular typing studies of ceftazidime-resistant E. cloacae using an automated ribotyping system, as well as pulsed-field gel electrophoresis, indicated that although clonal spread of a single strain occurred in some of the medical centers, most of the episodes of bacteremia were caused by patient-unique strains. Control of these resistant organisms will require attention to microbiologic recognition of phenotypes, to infection control practices, and to limiting the overuse of certain extended spectrum beta-lactams.  相似文献
