Applying the concept of materials design for transparent conductive oxides to layered oxychalcogenides, several p-type and n-type layered oxychalcogenides were proposed as wide-gap semiconductors and their basic optical and electrical properties were examined. The layered oxychalcogenides are composed of ionic oxide layers and covalent chalcogenide layers, which bring wide-gap and conductive properties to these materials, respectively. The electronic structures of the materials were examined by normal/inverse photoemission spectroscopy and energy band calculations. The results of the examinations suggested that these materials possess unique features more than simple wide-gap semiconductors. Namely, the layered oxychalcogenides are considered to be extremely thin quantum wells composed of the oxide and chalcogenide layers or 2D chalcogenide crystals/molecules embedded in an oxide matrix. Observation of step-like absorption edges, large band gap energy and large exciton binding energy demonstrated these features originating from 2D density of states and quantum size effects in these layered materials. 相似文献
Four mechanical parameters of physical vapor-deposited (PVD) hard coatings were obtained, which were the residual strain, Young's modulus, film toughness, and interface toughness, concerning titanium aluminum nitride (TiAlN) and titanium nitride (TiN) coatings deposited on WC-Co substrates. The results were quantitatively compared with the author's previous trials for the case of chemical vapor-deposited (CVD) diamond coatings. Due to the significant difference in the mechanical properties between PVD hard coatings and CVD diamond coatings, it was necessary to develop new experimental techniques, which could properly evaluate those parameters for the case of PVD hard coatings. As a conclusion, film toughness of PVD hard coatings was surprisingly brittle. It was an order of magnitude smaller than that of CVD diamond coatings. In contrast, no significant difference was found in interface toughness between these different kinds of coatings. Concerning the residual strain, TiN had far larger level than the other two. These differences in mechanical properties were further discussed in relation to the difference in their wear behavior. 相似文献
The notion of epistemic coherence is interpreted as involving not only consistency but also stability. The problem how to consolidate a belief system, i.e., revise it so that it becomes coherent, is studied axiomatically as well as in terms of set-theoretical constructions. Social media has experienced rapid growth in recent years and has been subjected of discussions on a wide range of topics including new lifestyles and eating habits, providing a great opportunity to obtain spontaneous consumer information. In this sense, the present work aimed to understand the perception of Twitter® users about themes of veganism and plant-based diets. The social networking data mining methodology was applied to measure the relationship between both terms. The significant differences found were analysed using the global chi-square (χ2) test, and their sources of variation were investigated by the chi-square per cell. The results indicate that the vegan group's posts are more related to the categories of recipes, trends, criticism and negative comments about veganism, being more often citing sources when compared to the other group. The results of the plant-based diet group are more significantly related to the impacts of nutrition, physical activity and consumer health. In conclusion, Twitter® has proved to be an interesting tool for obtaining data on (re) produced food publications on social media and their results can guide the market and the academic environment in creating new products, services and marketing strategies to answer the needs of specific consumers. 相似文献
This work shows the preparation of ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer/banana starch/Cloisite 20A organoclay (EVA/starch/C20A) nanocomposites by melt processing. Wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis were used to characterize the obtained nanocomposites. Mechanical properties were also determined. In addition, the performance of the nanocomposite films under composting was preliminarily studied; it was conducted using the soil burial test method. Despite knowing that the starch is difficult to process by extrusion, nanocomposite films with high homogeneity were obtained. In this case, C20A organoclay acts as an effective surfactant to make the starch natural polymer compatible with the EVA synthetic polymer. The good compatibility between EVA, starch and C20A clay was also deduced by the formation of intercalated and intercalated-exfoliated structures determined by WAXD and FE-SEM. Physical evidence of the damage in EVA/starch/C20A nanocomposite films after the composting test was observed. It is worth noting that despite the absence of starch, the EVA/C20A nanocomposite film, used as a control, also showed surface damage. This behavior is related to the organic modifier linked to clay C20A, which contains molecules derived from fatty acids that can be used as a food source for microorganisms.
Bacterial alkaline phosphatase (BAP) was site-specifically and covalently immobilized on magnetic particles (MPs) using the enzymatic reaction of microbial transglutaminase (MTG). Betanin is a natural pigment with antioxidant properties used as a food colourant. This work describes the spectrophotometric and chromatographic quantification of betanin (2S/15S) and its epimer isobetanin (2S/15R) in fresh beetroot juice, food-grade beetroot powder and betanin standard diluted in dextrin. Absorption spectra of all three samples were deconvoluted using a mixed three-function model. Food-grade beetroot powder has the largest amount of violet-red impurities, probably formed during processing. The purification of betanin from these complex matrices was carried out by seven different methods. Ion exchange chromatography was the most efficient method for the purification of betanin from all samples; however, fractions contain high amounts of salt. Reversed-phase HPLC as well as reversed-phase column chromatography also produced good results at a much faster rate. The longer retention time of isobetanin when compared to betanin in reversed-phase conditions has been investigated by means of quantum-mechanical methods. 相似文献
