This paper presents the results of an investigation and pilot study into an active binocular vision system that combines binocular vergence, object recognition and attention control in a unified framework. The prototype developed is capable of identifying, targeting, verging on and recognising objects in a cluttered scene without the need for calibration or other knowledge of the camera geometry. This is achieved by implementing all image analysis in a symbolic space without creating explicit pixel-space maps. The system structure is based on the ‘searchlight metaphor’ of biological systems. We present results of an investigation that yield a maximum vergence error of ~6.5 pixels, while ~85% of known objects were recognised in five different cluttered scenes. Finally a ‘stepping-stone’ visual search strategy was demonstrated, taking a total of 40 saccades to find two known objects in the workspace, neither of which appeared simultaneously within the field of view resulting from any individual saccade. 相似文献

The major effect of Lactobacillus inoculation on laboratory cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) silage was a change from a heterofermentative pattern observed in natural silage to a homofermentation. Small amounts of starter culture (1% v/w) were required to produce a high level of lactic acid (> 28 g kg?1 DM) and to reach a pH of at least 4. The Gompertz model was used to evaluate the effect of inoculation level on the lactic formation based on kinetic criteria. Also an empirical pH lactic acid correlation was proposed to monitor the progress of ensiling, based solely on pH measurements. The simulation model may be used to improve guidelines for silo safety and to evaluate the effect of lactobacilli inoculants. 相似文献

Large-eddy simulations (LES) of transition to turbulence in a horizontal annular cavity are performed, using a dynamic sub-grid scale model and second order schemes for time and space discretizations. Solutions for Prandtl number of 0.707 and Rayleigh number up to 7.5 × 105 are obtained. The onset of transition to turbulence and turbulence regimes are pointed out, as well as the dynamic characteristics of the thermal plume transition. The instantaneous and time average behavior of the flows, related to the velocity and temperature fields, are analyzed and compared with numerical and experimental results from other authors. We have designed, fabricated and measured electrically-driven active metamaterials which operate as external modulators for TeraHertz Quantum Cascade Lasers. The modulation is achieved by applying a voltage to the metamaterial layer which actively displaces carriers from the n-doped layer causing changes in damping and frequency location of the lowest metamaterial response. We demonstrate their operation at 2.4 and 2.8 TeraHertz and obtain a maximum modulation depth of ~60% with a large degree of modulation linearity. 相似文献

In this paper we present the results of the formation of black HgS (metacinnabar) from liquid mercury and elemental sulfur using the mechanical energy provided by a ball mill in different conditions. Metacinnabar formation was observed even after short milling times (15 min) and unreacted liquid mercury was no longer detected after 60 min of milling. The reaction mechanism was monitored with a scanning electron microscope. The impact and friction forces of milling on the Hg and S mixture resulted in the formation of metacinnabar by reducing the size of mercury drops, giving rise to microspheres, and lowering the surface tension to allow sulfur grains to become adhered at the reaction interface.After 60 min of milling, the metacinnabar formation reaction was observed to be more than 99.99% complete, yielding a Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure value of 3.1 μg/L Hg. The reaction product thus complies with the limits of the most stringent Universal Treatment Standard requirements, which allow a maximum TCLP concentration of 25 μg/L. 相似文献

Clinical depression is frequently unrecognized, even in health care settings. This study (a) reports high levels of major depressive episodes (MDEs) and depressive symptoms in a public sector women's clinic, (b) compares computerized voice recognition with live interviews, and (c) compares Spanish and English versions of the depression-screening instruments. Patients (N?=?104) completed face-to-face interviews and/or computerized voice recognition interviews in counterbalanced order; 38% scored positive for current MDE, and 67% scored positive for lifetime MDE. The mean score on the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression scale (CES-D) was 22.1 (SD?=?12.1), with 68% scoring 16 or above. No differences were found on either measure between English and Spanish speakers. Overall agreement between computer and live interviews was as follows: κ?=?.82 for both current and lifetime MDE and r?=?.89 for CES-D scores. Kappas between the MDE Screener developed for this study and the Primary Care Evaluation of Mental Disorders were .75 for live interviews and .81 for the computerized version. In a previous paper we proposed a model to study the dynamics of opinion formation in human societies by a co-evolution process involving two distinct time scales of fast transaction and slower network evolution dynamics. In the transaction dynamics we take into account short range interactions as discussions between individuals and long range interactions to describe the attitude to the overall mood of society. The latter is handled by a uniformly distributed parameter α, assigned randomly to each individual, as quenched personal bias. The network evolution dynamics is realised by rewiring the societal network due to state variable changes as a result of transaction dynamics. The main consequence of this complex dynamics is that communities emerge in the social network for a range of values in the ratio between time scales. In this paper we focus our attention on the attitude parameter α and its influence on the conformation of opinion and the size of the resulting communities. The sulfidation of chalcopyrite concentrate with elemental sulfur was studied in the temperature range of 325 °C to 500 °C.
The effects of temperature, time, and composition of the reactants on the sulfidation were determined. The X-ray diffraction
(XRD) and light microscopic analyses showed that the sulfidation of chalcopyrite forms CuS and FeS2 at temperatures below 400 °C. However, at temperatures above 400 °C, Cu5FeS6 and FeS2 were formed. The sulfidation of chalcopyrite proceeds mainly through the gaseous phase, and temperature has a significant
influence on the sulfidation rate in the range of 325 °C to 400 °C. The extraction of copper from the reacted material was

The in vitro activity of Bay 12-8039, a new oral 8-methoxyquinolone, was compared to the activities of 11 other oral antimicrobial agents (ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, ofloxacin, sparfloxacin, azithromycin, clarithromycin, amoxicillin clavulanate, penicillin, cefuroxime, cefpodoxime, and doxycycline) against 250 aerobic and 140 anaerobic bacteria recently isolated from animal and human bite wound infections. Bay 12-8039 was active against all aerobic isolates, both gram-positive and gram-negative isolates, at < or = 1.0 microg/ml (MICs at which 90% of isolates are inhibited [MIC90s < or = 0.25 microg/ml) and was active against most anaerobes at < or = 0.5 microg/ml; the exceptions were Fusobacterium nucleatum and other Fusobacterium species (MIC90s, > or = 4.0 microg/ml) and one strain of Prevotella loeschii (MICs, 2.0 microg/ml). In comparison, the other quinolones tested had similar in vitro activities against the aerobic strains but were less active against the anaerobes, including peptostreptococci, Porphyromonas species, and Prevotella species. The fusobacteria were relatively resistant to all the antimicrobial agents tested except penicillin G (one penicillinase-producing strain of F. nucleatum was found) and amoxicillin clavulanate. 相似文献
