Innovative designs of steel-casting systems developed by the NPP “Vulkan-TM” for metallurgical plants and foundries

This article examines the latest innovations from the NPP “Vulkan-TM” for stopper-less casting and the treatment of steel outside the furnace. It presents the main characteristics and design features of slide gates, equipment for the bottom-blowing of steel with argon, and equipment for making vibroformed refractory products.

Improvement of the processing of the wastes of nonferrous metals into high-quality secondary raw materials

A method for refining the wastes of nonferrous metals by milling with a controlled vibrational motion of a cutting tool is described. This method increases the yield of chip elements of nonferrous metals of a given size and shape by a factor of 2–3.

Mathematical model of the liquid flow pattern in an aerotank-sedimentation tank system

An analytical solution has been obtained for the mathematical model of the liquid flow pattern in an aerotank-sedimentation tank system with recycling in the form of a dispersion dependence on the model parameters: the Peclet number and recycling stream fraction. A technique is offered to determine the model parameters.     

Mathematical modeling in chemical engineering and biotechnology

This article reviews publications in Russian journals on mathematical modeling in chemical engineering and biotechnology. The major emphasis is on crystallization, mass transfer, and dissolution in chemical engineering processes, as well as steady and unsteady states in biotechnology. Two approaches to modeling in biotechnology are considered: structured and unstructured approaches.     

Nonequilibrium heteroepitaxy of silicon carbide on silicon

A method of silicon carbide (SiC) deposition onto silicon via a nonequilibrium disilicon carbide (Si₂C) vapor phase is proposed, theoretically described, and experimentally verified. Estimates obtained using thermochemical calculations show that a sufficiently large number of SiC molecules, which are transported by mobile Si₂C species, are obtained using this method on the silicon surface. It is established that homogeneous epitaxial SiC layers can be grown on a Si(111) substrate surface.
