The quality index, Q, defined as Q=UTS + klogE1 was introduced as a means to better interpret tensile test data. However, its use in the case of composite materials is often questioned. The difficulty arises from the fact that the elongations obtained are usually close to, or less than, unity. Based on a heat-treatment study of cast Al-Si-Mg/SiCp composites (359/SiCp) and an analysis of the tensile properties obtained, it is shown that the concept of quality index, as it is commonly applied, is inappropriate in describing the combined effects of UTS and E1, and it is much better, instead, to use the probable yield strength (PYS) for such materials. Respective expressions for Q and PYS have been obtained for the 359, 359/SiC/10p and 359/SiC/20p alloys studied. 相似文献

A pilot-scale fluidised pellet bed (FPB) bioreactor, which combines chemical coagulation, biological degradation, particle pelletisation and separation in one unit, was applied for onsite wastewater treatment and reuse. As a result of rational use of inorganic coagulant and organic polymer and moderate mechanical agitation, spherical particles were generated in the upflow column and a well-fluidised bed was formed. With a continuous supply of dissolved oxygen through a recycling loop, an aerobic condition was kept in the bottom section of the FPB column. Under such conditions the pellets in the FPB column showed the following characteristics: (1) compact structure and high density; (2) rich in microorganisms; and (3) high MLSS and MLVSS concentrations. Therefore, the FPB bioreactor achieved more than 90% removal of SS, COD, BOD and TP from raw domestic wastewater within a total hydraulic retention time (HRT) of only about 30 minutes. It also showed nitrification and denitrification ability and the TN removal could be about 50% as the recycling ratio was increased to 1:1. The treated water quality is generally competitive with the secondary effluent from a conventional activated sludge process. With these advantages the FPB bioreactor is recommendable as a compact system for onsite wastewater treatment and reuse. 相似文献

Chestnuts were dehydrated by using a combined method of osmotic dehydration followed by air drying. Samples were osmotically pretreated with sucrose (60% w/w) and glucose (56% w/w) for 8 h, air-dried at temperatures of 45, 55, and 65°C, at a relative humidity of 30% and at a velocity of 2.7 m·s-1 and the experimental data of the drying kinetics were obtained. Whole samples were dried with different peelings: (a) removal of endocarp and pericarp (peeled) and (b) additionally the internal rough surface (cut). In all cases, cut chestnuts show greater drying rates than peeled samples, indicating that a significant mass transfer resistance in the layer nearest to the surface takes place. Peeled samples pretreated with sucrose solutions behave in a similar way to untreated samples. For the rest of the samples, the cut samples osmotically treated with sucrose solutions and all the samples treated with the glucose solution, the drying rates decrease during drying. Drying kinetics are successfully modeled by employing a diffusional model that takes the shrinkage into account. The effective coefficient of water diffusion was evaluated and correlated with temperature. The quality of the final product was monitored by color change. In spite of the fact that the total color difference is not modified by the osmotic treatment, the L*, a*, and b* color coordinates of cut samples treated with sucrose and glucose solutions do undergo changes; the L* and a* coordinates change less than the b*. 相似文献

In this paper, the authors have developed and implemented a decentralized decision-making strategy using field-programmable gate array (FPGA) technology as a prototype for an integrated controller of a microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) array for air-flow planar micromanipulation. The MEMS array was proposed to be integrated in a hybrid multichip module containing the FPGA-based controller. Algorithms and architectures, used for the decentralized control implementation and the hardware resource optimization, are described. A charge-coupled device camera was used to make each MEMS like an autonomous system when the distributed MEMS chip was tested. Finally, under air-flow condition, the FPGA-based decentralized control system successfully performed an object manipulation. 相似文献

This paper presents the response of different kinds of schematic dwellings under daily periodic variations of the solar flux and the external temperature. The influence of the parameters which are characteristic of coupled heat transfer is studied (thermal diffusion and heat storage in external and internal walls, heat loses or solar heat supply by windows or airing).Calculations show that for an idealised regulation: (i) The energetical consumption depends only on mean variations of external temperature and solar flux and does not depend on the insulation location. (ii) For a building with a regulated internal temperature, the thermal inertia for the internal walls does not play a role. (iii) For an unregulated building, the internal temperature variations depends of the insulation location. The best location is the external one. The advancement of ultralong-haul transmission technology has dramatically enhanced the all-optical reaches. However, the actual situations of installed fiber and sites for terrestrial network often prevent implementing a purely transparent network, and thus, opaque reshaping retiming regenerating (3R) regeneration is required to guarantee optical signal reachability. Since 3R regenerators based on optical/electrical/optical conversion tend to dominate the total network costs, an efficient network design method that allocates a minimum number of 3R regenerators to optimum locations is essential to build a cost-effective photonic network. In this paper, we propose such a network-dimensioning method by combining the advantages of link-based and path-based design approaches. It first guarantees optical signal reachability for any possible traffic demand in each segmented linear link. After combining all the links, excessive regenerators are eliminated based on the optical signal quality check with -factor calculation for each wavelength path. A trial design of a large-scale mesh network demonstrated a significant cost savings of more than 30% in comparison with a conventional link-based design. In the trial, the impact of fiber loss coefficient over the total network cost was investigated quantitatively, addressing the importance of such quantitative modeling and analysis. 相似文献

Uncertainty in water quality model predictions is inevitably high due to natural stochasticity, model uncertainty, and parameter uncertainty. An integrated modelling system (modified-BASINS) under uncertainty is described and demonstrated for use in receiving-water quality prediction and watershed management. A Monte Carlo simulation was used to investigate the effect of various uncertainty types on output prediction. Without pollution control measures in the watershed, the concentrations of total nitrogen (T-N) and total phosphorus (T-P) in the Hwaong Reservoir, considering three uncertainty types, would be less than about 4.4 and 0.23 mg L(-1), respectively, in 2012, with 90% confidence. The effects of two watershed management practices, wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) and constructed wetlands (WETLAND), were evaluated. The combined scenario (WWTP + WETLAND) was the most effective at improving reservoir water quality, bringing concentrations of T-N and T-P in the Hwaong Reservoir to less than 3.4 and 0.14 mg L(-1), 24 and 41% improvements, respectively, with 90% confidence. Overall, the Monte Carlo simulation in the integrated modelling system was practical for estimating uncertainty and reliable in water quality prediction. Characterisation of greywater was conducted in two different greywater streams in the Netherlands (Groningen and Sneek). The concentrations of macropollutants and nutrients measured were very different in both streams; in particular the COD was 425 mg/L in Groningen's water whereas in Sneek it was 1,583 mg/L. The aerobic treatment of greywater in a fed-batch reactor led to a 90% removal of COD at different organic loading rates. Anaerobically, the removal reached 40% COD removal on average, the possible reason being the high amount of surfactants present in the influent. 相似文献

A modified CIECAM02 colour appearance model, named CIECAM02‐m2, is proposed to enable CIECAM02 to predict the simultaneous contrast effect. The structure of the CIECAM02‐m2 is a development from CIECAM02, and contains two different procedures for modifying the reference white; one is for lightness and the other is for hue. The model was tested using a data set accumulated in this study and the LUTCHI data. The CV values for three colour attributes between predictions and experimental data were used to evaluate the accuracy of the model. The low CV values obtained show the performance of the CIECAM02‐m2 model to predict the simultaneous contrast effect satisfactorily. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
