Nd3+ Doped Silicate Glass Photonic Crystal Fiber with Random Hole Distributions

The fabrication of one kind of large core area Nd3 doped silicate glass photonic crystal fiber, and demonstration of the fiber's waveguidence properties were reported. This fiber owns a random air hole distribution in the cladding. The measured minimum loss of this kind of fiber is 10 dB·m-1 at 660 nm. These fibers can sustain only a single mode at least over wavelength ranging from 660 nm to 980 nm.     

Lutein and lutein esters in marigold flowers by high performance chromatography

Lutein and lutein esters in marigold flowers was quantitatively determined by high performance chromatography (HPLC) with ODS-C18 column. A mixture of CH3CN-CH3OH-CH3COOCH2CH2 with volume ratio of 55:1:44 was used as mobile phase at a flow rate of 1.0mL/min and detection was carried out at 480 nm. The column temperature was about 20℃. The contents of lutein and lutein esters were determined by analytical curve of lutein since lutein and lutein esters have the same spectral characteristics. Determination results of hexane extracts and saponified samples of lutein show that the saponification transforms the esters into free lutein. The increase of the content of dipalmitate and palmitate stearate reveals that the reaction includes transesterifications.     

Long-term effect of perinatal and postnatal asphyxia on developing human auditory brainstem responses: peripheral hearing loss

Peripheral hearing was assessed by examining brainstem auditory evoked responses (BAER) in children who suffered perinatal or postnatal asphyxia, particularly in those with residual neurodevelopmental deficits, to investigate the long-term effect of asphyxia on the developing auditory sensitivity. The BAER data were collected at least 6 months after the episode of asphyxia. Of the children who suffered perinatal asphyxia, hearing loss was found more frequently in those who exhibited residual neurodevelopmental deficits (17.1%) than in those who did not (6.3%), but this difference did not reach statistical significance. This implied that the long-term effect of perinatal asphyxia on the peripheral auditory system and its effect on the central nervous system may be relatively discrete or not closely correlated. The occurrence of hearing loss did not appear to be closely related to the degree of perinatal asphyxia, although hearing loss occurred more frequently in the children after severe asphyxia compared to those after mild asphyxia. There was no evidence for permanent hearing loss in the children who survived severe, prolonged postnatal asphyxia and exhibited residual neurodevelopmental deficits. These findings suggest that a critical period of particular sensitivity to the effect of hypoxia may exist during the development of the human peripheral auditory system. This period may range from some time prenatally to some time shortly after birth, probably the third postnatal month. After that, hypoxia is unlikely to lead to permanent hearing loss.

Investigation of Infrared Photonic Crystal Slab with Defect Waveguides

This paper deals with the two dimensional (2-D) infrared photonic crystal slab with an air-bridge structure featuring defect waveguides in which the optical propagation properties were obtained by measurements of transmission spectra. 3-D finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations have revealed the appearance of four defect propagation modes for the band structure and transmission spectra in the air-bridge slab. These defect modes were experimentally identified in the measured transmission spectra.     

非水解溶胶-凝胶法低温合成硅酸锆

以工业纯ZrCl4、 Si(OC2H5)4为前驱体,通过非水解溶胶-凝胶法合成了硅酸锆.采用DTA-TG和XRD等测试手段研究了凝胶热处理过程中的物相变化.结果表明:当前驱体溶胶中未引入矿化剂时,硅酸锆的合成温度高达1450℃;相比之下,溶胶中引入矿化剂LiF后在600℃下便开始出现了ZrSiO4衍射峰,在700℃合成的硅酸锆不仅合成率高,而且晶体发育好,实现了低温合成硅酸锆的目标.     

N,N′-二(β-十八酰氧基)乙基乙二胺二乙酸钠的合成及性能研究

用 N,N′-二羟乙基乙二胺、氯乙酸钠合成了 N,N′-二羟乙基乙二胺二乙酸钠(中间体),中间体再与硬脂酰氯反应制备了一种新型 Gemini 两性表面活性剂 N,N′-二(β-十八酰氧基)乙基乙二胺二乙酸钠。对产物合成条件进行了考察,优化的反应条件为:n(硬脂酰氯):n(中间体)=2.5,溶剂 V(水):V(氯仿)=1:2,pH=9.0～10.0,反应温度15～20℃,反应时间5 h。通过红外光谱和质谱分析确定了产物结构,并测试了产物的表面性能。结果表明,在25℃时,该产物的临界胶束浓度为0.24 mmol/L,临界胶束浓度下的表面张力为35.7 mN/m;即时泡沫高度为250 mm,5 min 后泡沫高度为220 mm;乳化时间为22.48 min(甲苯-水物系)和4.65 min(正己烷-水物系),亲水-亲油平衡值为5.4,等电点为 pH 3.3～6.5。     

Parametric Wavelength Conversion From Conventional Near-Infrared to Visible Band

The feasibility of distant wavelength conversion in photonic crystal fiber was explored. The one-pump parametric architecture was used to demonstrate translation from the conventional (1550 nm) to visible (500 nm) band.
