Architecture engineering of hierarchically porous chitosan/vacuum-stripped graphene scaffold as bioanode for high performance microbial fuel cell

The bioanode is the defining feature of microbial fuel cell (MFC) technology and often limits its performance. In the current work, we report the engineering of a novel hierarchically porous architecture as an efficient bioanode, consisting of biocompatible chitosan and vacuum-stripped graphene (CHI/VSG). With the hierarchical pores and unique VSG, an optimized bioanode delivered a remarkable maximum power density of 1530 mW m(-2) in a mediator-less MFC, 78 times higher than a carbon cloth anode.     

Genetic Dissection of Light-Regulated Adventitious Root Induction in Arabidopsis thaliana Hypocotyls

Photomorphogenic responses of etiolated seedlings include the inhibition of hypocotyl elongation and opening of the apical hook. In addition, dark-grown seedlings respond to light by the formation of adventitious roots (AR) on the hypocotyl. How light signaling controls adventitious rooting is less well understood. Hereto, we analyzed adventitious rooting under different light conditions in wild type and photomorphogenesis mutants in Arabidopsis thaliana. Etiolation was not essential for AR formation but raised the competence to form AR under white and blue light. The blue light receptors CRY1 and PHOT1/PHOT2 are key elements contributing to the induction of AR formation in response to light. Furthermore, etiolation-controlled competence for AR formation depended on the COP9 signalosome, E3 ubiquitin ligase CONSTITUTIVELY PHOTOMORPHOGENIC (COP1), the COP1 interacting SUPPRESSOR OF PHYA-105 (SPA) kinase family members (SPA1,2 and 3) and Phytochrome-Interacting Factors (PIF). In contrast, ELONGATED HYPOCOTYL5 (HY5), suppressed AR formation. These findings provide a genetic framework that explains the high and low AR competence of Arabidopsis thaliana hypocotyls that were treated with dark, and light, respectively. We propose that light-induced auxin signal dissipation generates a transient auxin maximum that explains AR induction by a dark to light switch.     

Secreted HSP90α-LRP1 Signaling Promotes Tumor Metastasis and Chemoresistance in Pancreatic Cancer

The extracellular heat shock protein 90α (eHSP90α) has been reported to promote cancer cell motility. However, whether pancreatic cancer (PC) cells expressed membrane-bound or secreted HSP90α, as well as its underlying mechanism for PC progression, were still unclear. Our study demonstrated that the amounts of secreted HSP90α proteins were discrepant in multiple PC cells. In addition, highly invasive Capan-2 cells have a higher level of secreted HSP90α compared with those of less invasive PL45 cells. The conditioned medium of Capan-2 cells or recombinant HSP90α treatment stimulated the migration and invasion of PC cells, which could be prevented with a neutralizing anti-HSP90α antibody. Furthermore, secreted HSP90α promoted elements of epithelial–mesenchymal transition in PL45 cells, including increases in vimentin and Snail expressions, decreases in E-cadherin expression, and changes in cell shape towards a mesenchymal phenotype, but these phenomena were reversed by the anti-HSP90α antibody in Capan-2 cells. In addition, high levels of low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 1 (LRP1) were associated with worsened patient survival in pancreatic adenocarcinoma. We demonstrated LRP1 as a receptor of eHSP90α for its stimulatory role in metastasis, by activating the AKT pathway. In addition, silencing LRP1 enhanced the chemosensitivity to gemcitabine and doxorubicin in Capan-2 cells. Therefore, our study indicated that blocking secreted HSP90α underlies an aspect of metastasis and chemoresistance in PC.     

激光法合成纳米金刚石的高分辨电镜研究

在常温常压下,采用脉冲激光作用循环的石墨悬浮液,收集并烘干得到样品B,另一部分用高氯酸进行酸煮提纯提到样品A.对样品A、B分别进行高分辨电子显微镜（HRTEM）和显微拉曼光谱（Micro-Raman）分析.结果表明,部分石墨经激光作用后转变成了具有多重孪晶结构特征的、尺寸为5 nm的金刚石颗粒,同时还得到了非晶碳.高分辨电子显微镜照片证明,石墨转变成纳米金刚石的机理为快速成核长大过程.

油墨的吸收性是印刷质较短的时间尺度上分析油墨与纸张的接触过程,从而建立模型.探讨油墨吸收性对印刷质量的影响,并提出解决办法.     

高流动性星型尼龙12的合成与表征

在均苯三甲酸的存在下,进行十二内酰胺的水解聚合,合成了四种不同臂长的三臂星型尼龙12,对产物的分子量进行了测定,并对其力学性能和流变行为进行了研究。结果表明,星型尼龙12的分子量随着均苯三甲酸含量的提高而降低,与相应分子量的线型尼龙12相比,星型尼龙12的拉伸强度和弯曲强度基本保持,冲击强度保持率在80%以上,断裂伸长...
