The oxidation of the 304-type (Fe18Cr10Ni) austenitic stainless steel was investigated in the temperature range 400–600 °C in 5% O2 and 5% O2 + 40% H2O. Exposure time was up to 1 week. Prior to exposure, the polished samples were coated with 0.1 mg/cm2 KCl. Uncoated samples were also exposed and used as references. The oxidized samples were analyzed by gravimetry and by ESEM/EDX, XRD, IC and AES. The results show that KCl is strongly corrosive. Corrosion is initiated by the reaction of KCl with the chromia-containing oxide that normally forms a protective layer on the alloy. This reaction produces potassium chromate particles, leaving a chromium-depleted oxide on the alloy surface. At 500 and 600 °C this results in rapid oxidation, resulting in the formation of a thick scale consisting of a mixture of hematite, spinel oxide ((Fe,Cr,Ni)3O4) and K2CrO4. The thick scale is poorly protective and permeable to e.g. chloride ions. The KCl-induced corrosion of alloy 304L in dry O2 and in an O2 + H2O mixture increases strongly with temperature in the range 400–600 °C. The strong temperature dependence is explained partly by the temperature dependence of the chromate-formation reaction and partly by the ability of the chromium-depleted oxide to protect the alloy at low temperature. At 400 °C, the oxide was still protective after 168 h.  相似文献

We proposed a possible way of promoting the binding of H2 molecules on covalent organic frameworks crystals via substituting the bridge C2O2B rings with different metal-participated rings, which can naturally avoid the clustering of metal atoms. First-principles calculations on both crystalline phase and molecular fragments show that the H2 binding energy can be enhanced by a factor of four with regard to the undoped crystal, i.e. reaching about 10 kJ/mol. Grand canonical Monte Carlo simulations further confirm that such substitutional doping would improve the room temperature hydrogen storage capacity by a factor of two to three.  相似文献

A Rapidly Solidified Powder (RSP) metallurgical FeCrAl alloy, Kanthal APMT, was exposed in dry and humid O2 for 72 h at 900–1,100 °C. The formed oxide scales were characterized using gravimetry in combination with advanced analysis techniques (SEM, EDX, TEM, XRD, AES and SIMS). The oxide scales were at all exposures composed of two-layered α-Al2O3 scales exhibiting a top layer of equiaxed grains and a bottom layer containing elongated grains. A Cr-rich zone, originating in the native oxide present before exposure, separated these two layers. The top α-Al2O3 layer is suggested to have formed by transformation of outwardly grown metastable alumina, while the inward-grown bottom α-Al2O3 layer had incorporated small Zr-, Hf- and Ti-rich oxide particles present in the alloy matrix. The scale also contained larger Y-rich oxide particles. Furthermore, in the temperature range studied, the presence of water vapour accelerated alloy oxidation somewhat and affected scale morphology.  相似文献

In this paper we investigate an application of the method of fundamental solutions (MFS) to transient heat conduction in layered materials, where the thermal diffusivity is piecewise constant. Recently, in Johansson and Lesnic [A method of fundamental solutions for transient heat conduction. Eng Anal Boundary Elem 2008;32:697–703], a MFS was proposed with the sources placed outside the space domain of interest, and we extend that technique to numerically approximate the heat flow in layered materials. Theoretical properties of the method, as well as numerical investigations are included.  相似文献

In the current work, a computational model of a microfluidic fuel cell with flow-through porous electrodes is developed and validated with experimental data based on vanadium redox electrolyte as fuel and oxidant. The model is the first of its kind for this innovative fuel cell design. The coupled problem of fluid flow, mass transport and electrochemical kinetics is solved from first principles using a commercial multiphysics code. The performance characteristics of the fuel cell based on polarization curves, single pass efficiency, fuel utilization and power density are predicted and theoretical maxima are established. Fuel and oxidant flow rate and its effect on cell performance is considered and an optimal operating point with respect to both efficiency and power output is identified for a given flow rate. The results help elucidate the interplay of kinetics and mass transport effects in influencing porous electrode polarization characteristics. The performance and electrode polarization at the mass transfer limit are also detailed. The results form a basis for determining parameter variations and design modifications to improve performance and fuel utilization. The validated model is expected to become a useful design tool for development and optimization of fuel cells and electrochemical sensors incorporating microfluidic flow-through porous electrodes.  相似文献

Qualitative comparison of bird and bat wakes has demonstrated significant differences in the structure of the far wake. Birds have been found to have a unified vortex wake of the two wings, while bats have a more complex wake with gradients in the circulation along the wingspan, and with each wing generating its own vortex structure. Here, we compare quantitative measures of the circulation in the far wake of three bird and one bat species. We find that bats have a significantly stronger normalized circulation of the start vortex than birds. We also find differences in how the circulation develops during the wingbeat as demonstrated by the ratio of the circulation of the dominant start vortex and the total circulation of the same sense. Birds show a more prominent change with changing flight speed and a relatively weaker start vortex at minimum power speed than bats. We also find that bats have a higher normalized wake loading based on the start vortex, indicating higher relative induced drag and therefore less efficient lift generation than birds. Our results thus indicate fundamental differences in the aerodynamics of bird and bat flight that will further our understanding of the evolution of vertebrate flight.  相似文献

PURPOSE: To investigate the nature and reversibility of biochemical and functional changes in the retina encountered over a single generation of dietary n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid deficiency in guinea pigs. METHODS: Dunkin-Hartley guinea pigs were fed for 16 weeks after weaning with diets supplemented with safflower seed oil (n-3 deficient) or canola oil (n-3 sufficient, control). A number of deficient animals were repleted at 6 weeks with canola oil for 5 or 10 weeks, or at 11 weeks for 5 weeks. Electroretinograms (0.8 and 4.3 log scot td x sec) were collected at 6, 11, and 16 weeks after weaning. Conventional waveforms (a- and b-waves), oscillatory potentials, and receptoral and postreceptoral subcomponents (PIII and PII, respectively) were evaluated. Cone pathway function was assessed with 30-Hz flicker at the brighter intensity. Retinal phospholipid fatty acids were measured by capillary gas-liquid chromatography. RESULTS: Electroretinographic amplitudes showed statistically significant losses in b- and a-waves after 6 and 16 weeks of dietary n-3 deficiency, respectively. The response amplitude to 30-Hz flicker was reduced 42% after 16 weeks. Retinal docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) levels of animals maintained on the safflower oil diet for 16 weeks were 42% of levels in age-matched control subjects. There were significant losses in maximum response amplitudes (R(mPIII) and R(mPII)), although the major effect was a reduction in sensitivity of the receptoral response. Complete functional recovery was observed only in animals repleted for 10 weeks. CONCLUSIONS: Functional deficits in PIII and PII of the electroretinogram were apparent in first-generation guinea pigs fed an n-3 deficient diet. These losses showed a correlation with age and retinal DHA level, although varying degrees of dependence on the DHA level were found. All functional deficits were reversed after 10 weeks of dietary n-3 repletion. The results suggest that DHA may serve several functional and structural roles in the retina and further emphasize the requirement for DHA in the normal development of vision.  相似文献

Electron‐beam curing of thermoset resins used in fiber‐reinforced composites has been investigated. Two resins, a bisphenol‐A acrylate and methacrylate, were used as model systems. The temperature was monitored during cure to know the thermal history of the composite during cure. The thermo‐mechanical properties were measured on the cured samples. It could be seen that all these values were influenced by the nature (glass or carbon) and amount (0–50 wt.‐%) of fiber. A linear correlation was found between the maximum temperature during cure and the glass transition temperature. It was shown that it is possible to compensate for a lack of heat during cure in systems with too low exotherms. Some influence on the network homogeneity was also noticed when the thermal energy available during cure was too low.  相似文献
