In recent years, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) industries have taken a great interest in utilizing the benefits of RFID for supply chain management, inventory control and various other applications. This paper proposed an adaptive load balancing technique for RFID middleware systems to meet the demands of scalability and heterogeneity. First, we explored five basic load balancing policies, namely, information policy, job selection policy, transfer policy, initiation policy and location policy. Eighteen load balancing schemes were then proposed for RFID middleware systems that were combinations of various types of the five basic load balancing policies. Our empirical study suggested that these load balancing strategies performed differently under different workload statuses. Finally, an adaptive load balancing strategy was proposed. The load balancing schemes and the proposed adaptive load balancing strategy have been implemented in the RFID Middleware Load Management System (RM‐LMS). Abstract— A novel pixel design for vertical‐alignment LCDs with superior transmittance has been developed. The new liquid‐crystal mode, refered to as the hole‐induced vertical‐alignment mode (Hi‐VA), uses a via hole of an organic layer on a TFT substrate to achieve multi‐domain alignment. Compared to the conventional design, the Hi‐VA mode has a transmittance of up to 135% with a contrast ratio of 2000:1. Moreover, the new structure is free from ITO patterning or protrusion on the color‐filter side, which makes the fabrication process simple and low cost.  相似文献

This paper presents an effective and systematic trajectory generation method, together with a control method for enabling a biped robot to walk upstairs. The COG (center of gravity) trajectory is generated by the VHIPM (virtual height inverted pendulum mode) for the horizontal motion and by a 6th order polynomial for the vertical motion; an ankle compliance control (ACC) is also added into the robot control. The proposed methods are evaluated by simulations as well as being implemented in a robot for the performance verification. The results show that the proposed methods can generate stable motions when walking upstairs, and these can significantly reduce the zero moment point (ZMP) errors compared with other methods, enabling the robot to walk up steeper stairs.  相似文献

Firms that have implemented knowledge management initiatives are now interested in nurturing voluntary knowledge sharing organizations, called communities of practice (CoPs). Adopting the Triandis model on attitude formation, we identified and validated a set of organizational factors that was anticipated to have effects on knowledge sharing by CoP members such as perceived consequences, affect, social factors and facilitating conditions. One hundred and seventy-nine members from 70 CoPs of a large multinational electronics firm participated in this survey. Based on the PLS analysis, perceived consequences, affect, social factors, and facilitating conditions were found to significantly affect knowledge sharing in CoPs.  相似文献

Online Search with Time-Varying Price Bounds   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Online search is a basic online problem. The fact that its optimal deterministic/randomized solutions are given by simple formulas (however with difficult analysis) makes the problem attractive as a target to which other practical online problems can be transformed to find optimal solutions. However, since the upper/lower bounds of prices in available models are constant, natural online problems in which these bounds vary with time do not fit in the available models.We present two new models where the bounds of prices are not constant but vary with time in certain ways. The first model, where the upper and lower bounds of (logarithmic) prices have decay speed, arises from a problem in concurrent data structures, namely to maximize the (appropriately defined) freshness of data in concurrent objects. For this model we present an optimal deterministic algorithm with competitive ratio \(\sqrt{D}\), where D is the known duration of the game, and a nearly-optimal randomized algorithm with competitive ratio \(\frac{\ln D}{1+\ln2-\frac{2}{D}}\). We also prove that the lower bound of competitive ratios of randomized algorithms is asymptotically \(\frac{\ln D}{4}\).The second model is inspired by the fact that some applications do not utilize the decay speed of the lower bound of prices in the first model. In the second model, only the upper bound decreases arbitrarily with time and the lower bound is constant. Clearly, the lower bound of competitive ratios proved for the first model holds also against the stronger adversary in the second model. For the second model, we present an optimal randomized algorithm. Our numerical experiments on the freshness problem show that this new algorithm achieves much better/smaller competitive ratios than previous algorithms do, for instance 2.25 versus 3.77 for D=128.  相似文献

The increased popularity of tablets in general has led to uptake in education. We critically review the literature reporting use of tablets by primary and secondary school children across the curriculum, with a particular emphasis on learning outcomes. The systematic review methodology was used, and our literature search resulted in 33 relevant studies meeting the inclusion criteria. A total of 23 met the minimum quality criteria and were examined in detail (16 reporting positive learning outcomes, 5 no difference and 2 negative learning outcomes). Explanations underlying these observations were analysed, and factors contributing to successful uses of tablets are discussed. While we hypothesize how tablets can viably support children in completing a variety of learning tasks (across a range of contexts and academic subjects), the fragmented nature of the current knowledge base, and the scarcity of rigorous studies, makes it difficult to draw firm conclusions. The generalizability of evidence is limited, and detailed explanations as to how, or why, using tablets within certain activities can improve learning remain elusive. We recommend that future research moves beyond exploration towards systematic and in‐depth investigations building on the existing findings documented here.  相似文献

This paper describes Team THOR's approach to human‐in‐the‐loop disaster response robotics for the 2015 DARPA Robotics Challenge (DRC) Finals. Under the duress of unpredictable networking and terrain, fluid operator interactions and dynamic disturbance rejection become major concerns for effective teleoperation. We present a humanoid robot designed to effectively traverse a disaster environment while allowing for a wide range of manipulation abilities. To complement the robot hardware, a hierarchical software foundation implements network strategies that provide real‐time feedback to an operator under restricted bandwidth using layered user interfaces. Our strategy for humanoid locomotion includes a backward‐facing knee configuration paired with specialized toe and heel lifting strategies that allow the robot to traverse difficult surfaces while rejecting external perturbations. With an upper body planner that encodes operator preferences, predictable motion plans are executed in unforeseen circumstances. These plans are critical for manipulation in unknown environments. Our approach was validated during the DRC Finals competition, where Team THOR scored three points in 18 min of operation time, and the results are presented along with an analysis of each task.  相似文献

Min and Agresti (2005) proposed random effect hurdle models for zero-inflated clustered count data with two-part random effects for a binary component and a truncated count component. In this paper, we propose new marginalized models for zero-inflated clustered count data using random effects. The marginalized models are similar to Dobbie and Welsh’s (2001) model in which generalized estimating equations were exploited to find estimates. However, our proposed models are based on a likelihood-based approach. A Quasi-Newton algorithm is developed for estimation. We use these methods to carefully analyze two real datasets.  相似文献

Matching features computed in images is an important process in multiview image analysis. When the motion between two images is large, the matching problem becomes very difficult. In this paper, we propose a contour matching algorithm based on geometric constraints. With the assumption that the contours are obtained from images taken from a moving camera with static scenes, we apply the epipolar constraint between two sets of contours and compute the corresponding points on the contours. From the initial epipolar constraints obtained from corner point matching, candidate contours are selected according to the epipolar geometry, contour end point constraints, and contour distance measures. In order to reduce the possibility of false matches, the number of match points on a contour is also used as a selection measure. The initial epipolar constraint is refined from the matched sets of contours. The algorithm can be applied to a pair or two pairs of images. All of the processes are fully automatic and successfully implemented and tested with various real images  相似文献

Reliability-based design optimization (RBDO) incorporates probabilistic analysis into optimization process so that an optimum design has a great chance of staying in the feasible design space when the inevitable variability in design variables/parameters is considered. One of the biggest drawbacks of applying RBDO to practical problem is its high computational cost that is often impractical to industries. In search of the most suitable RBDO method for industrial applications, we first evaluated several existing RBDO approaches in details such as the double-loop RBDO, the sequential optimization and reliability assessment, and the response surface method. Then, based on industry needs, a platform incorporating/integrating the existing algorithm of optimization and reliability analysis is built for a practical RBDO problem. Effectiveness of the proposed RBDO approach is demonstrated using a simple cantilever beam problem and a more complicated industry problem.  相似文献
