The increasing use of non-biodegradable materials and the difficulty in recycling most of the available packaging have been pushing the development of biodegradable packaging. In this study, the potential uses of agroindustrial wastes to produce biodegradable films with antioxidant capacity were investigated. Starch films were produced by casting method using bran from jaboticaba peel, mango peel, and broccoli stalk. The influence of the concentration or type of bran in the properties of the films was evaluated through a central composite design. The results were analyzed by response surface and desirability function. Except for elongation and water solubility, the fitted equations were predictive in all studied properties. The films prepared from a higher concentration of mango peel exhibited better antioxidant capacity, while the broccoli stalk had no significant effect on antioxidant properties. The optimal formulation of the film (2.8% of jaboticaba peel and 20.0% of mango peel) and their predicted response variables (0.8 MPa for tensile strength, 40.0 MPa for Young's modulus, 4.5 mg/ml for IC50, and 41.6% for inhibition percentage) were defined according to the results. The optimization was satisfactory and the film presented high antioxidant capacity and moderate mechanical properties, proving to be an alternative to replace plastic packaging. 相似文献

This work deals with the rheological, morphological, and thermal properties of composites having poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET), polyamide-6 (PA6), and their blends as matrices, and rice husk ash (RHA) as a filler. The study determines the effect of composition on the change in viscosity and rate of degradation during processing in a torque rheometer. Our data indicates that thermal stability and degradation during processing depend on matrix composition and filler concentration. SEM micrographs show both partial adhesion of the filler to the matrices and filler pullout. Optical microscopy shows particle agglomeration and that agglomerate size increased with filler content. FTIR investigates the shifting of absorption bands of PET/PA6 composite after the addition of RHA and attributes the selective dispersion of RHA to the formation of hydrogen bonds. Our data supports the idea that filler employed here is an option to develop polymer composites with improved properties. 相似文献

At the focus of abiotic chemical reactions is the synthesis of ribose. No satisfactory explanation was provided as to the missing link between the prebiotic synthesis of ribose and prebiotic RNA (preRNA). Hydrogen cyanide (HCN) is assumed to have been the principal precursor in the prebiotic formation of aldopentoses in the formose reaction and in the synthesis of ribose. Ribose as the best fitting aldopentose became the exclusive sugar component of RNA. The elevated yield of ribose synthesis at higher temperatures and its protection from decomposition could have driven the polymerization of the ribose-phosphate backbone and the coupling of nucleobases to the backbone. RNA could have come into being without the involvement of nucleotide precursors. The first nucleoside monophosphate is likely to have appeared upon the hydrolysis of preRNA contributed by the presence of reactive 2′-OH moieties in the preRNA chain. As a result of phosphorylation, nucleoside monophosphates became nucleoside triphosphates, substrates for the selective synthesis of genRNA. 相似文献

One key issue influencing a broader application of Bioglass 45S5 in tissue engineering is its inherent crystallization tendency, severely limiting the mechanical strength of 3D porous scaffolds. Despite numerous studies, Bioglass 45S5 crystallization is not yet fully understood with regard to the mechanisms involved or morphology of the crystal phases forming. Here we show how two cutting-edge imaging techniques, state-of-the-art transmission electron microscopy (TEM) with image correction including energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray nano-computed tomography (nano-CT), allowed us to visualize changes in microstructure from near-nucleation to almost full crystallization in bulk Bioglass 45S5. At early times of heat treatment at 660 °C the formation of phase-separated nano-droplets within the glassy matrix was observed. Later, besides surface crystallization, bulk crystallization of combeite spheres was predominant. The formation of the first combeite spheres, their coarsening with time and finally their merging at near full crystallization were recorded by in situ high-temperature optical microscopy videos. The 3D nature of these spheres was confirmed by nano-CT, while TEM showed that their internal structure was composed of sub-micron grains. X-ray diffraction analysis at early time points showed a much higher crystalline fraction in bulk samples compared to powder samples, highlighting the influence of processing and sample morphology. These results show the importance of using complementary techniques for gaining insight into the crystallization process in the volume. In addition, we show that TEM and nano-CT are suitable characterization techniques to visualize the crystallization even in fast crystallizing systems, such as bioactive glasses. 相似文献

The microstructural and textural evolution was analyzed during rolling at room temperature to obtain detailed information about the failure behavior in HSLA grade-420 steel. Electron backscatter diffraction measurements were carried out in both non-cracked and cracked areas after cold rolling to find a correlation between microstructural parameters (i.e., grain orientation, grain boundary characteristics and Taylor factor) and crack propagation. The results showed that the crack tended to propagate along grains oriented with {001} planes parallel to the normal direction with high Taylor factor value. The special boundaries associated with the {111}, {110} and {221} planes were indicated as crack resistance, while ∑ 5, 13a and 17a, which related to the {001} planes, were crack-susceptible. Transgranular cracking was subjected within grains with high Taylor factor, while mismatch in Taylor factor between neighboring grains could provide an easy path for intergranular crack propagation. 相似文献

Recent advances in enhanced oil recovery (EOR) technology create new opportunities for CO2 sequestration. This paper proposes a technical–economic model for underground storage of CO2 emitted by a fertilizer industry in the Northeast of Brazil, in a hypothetical mature oil reservoir through EOR operation. Simulations based on mass, energy and entropy balances, as well as economic analysis, were assessed for the process of CO2 sequestration combined with EOR. This model takes into account the energy requirements for the whole CO2 sequestration process, as well as the emissions inherent to the process. Additionally, a breakdown cost methodology is proposed to estimate the main financial determinants of the integrated EOR with CO2 sequestration (costs of CO2 purchase, compression, transportation and storage). Project evaluation is derived from a cash flow model, regarding reservoir production profile, price and costs, capital expenditures (CAPEX), operating expenditures (OPEX), carbon credits, depreciation time, fiscal assumptions etc. A sensitivity analysis study is carried out to identify the most critical variables. Project feasibility, as expected, is found to be very sensitive to oil price, oil production, and CAPEX. Moreover, there is the contribution from the mitigation of the greenhouse gas (GHG) by storing a significant amount of CO2 in the reservoir where it can remain for thousands of years. 相似文献

The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance and to estimate costs of two round baling systems for harvesting understory biomass. One system was a cutter-shredder-baler prototype (Bio-baler). The other system required two successive operations. The first operation was cutting and shredding with a Supertrak tractor equipped with a Fecon mulcher head. The second operation was baling with a Claas baler. The machines were evaluated in three different pine stands on the Osceola National Forest in Florida, United States. Data collection included time study, fuel consumption and bale measurements. Material was collected from a sample of bales for heat and moisture content determination. On the most representative site (Site 2), the Bio-baler recovered 8.05 green t ha−1 while the mulcher and the Claas baler recovered 9.75 green t ha−1 (43 and 52 percent of original understory biomass, respectively). Productivity was 0.30 ha h−1 for the Bio-baler and 0.51 ha h−1 for the Claas baler. Density of the bales was 321 green kg m−3 for the Bio-baler and 373 green kg m−3 for the Claas baler. Average net heat content was 6263 MJ bale−1 for the Bio-baler and 6695 MJ bale−1 for the Claas baler with biomass containing 38 percent of moisture content on a wet basis. Wood gasification technologies to convert the biomass into fuel gas stand out. On the other hand, producing electrical energy from stationary engine is widely spread, and its application in rural communities where the electrical network doesn’t exist is very required. The recovery of exhaust gases (engine) is a possibility that makes the system attractive when compared with the same components used to obtain individual heat such as electric power. This paper presents an energetic alternative to adapt a fixed bed gasifier with a compact cogeneration system in order to cover electrical and thermal demands in a rural area and showing an energy solution for small social communities using renewable fuels. Therefore, an energetic and economical analysis from a cogeneration system producing electric energy, hot and cold water, using wooden gas as fuel from a small-sized gasifier was calculated. The energy balance that includes the energy efficiency (electric generation as well as hot and cold water system; performance coefficient and the heat exchanger, among other items), was calculated. Considering the annual interest rates and the amortization periods, the costs of production of electrical energy, hot and cold water were calculated, taking into account the investment, the operation and the maintenance cost of the equipments. 相似文献

Authenticated gum samples from three plant species from Tanzania were analysed and their potential for food, pharmaceutical and other applications was determined by comparing their physicochemical properties with those of commercial Acacia gums from Tanzania, gum karaya and the specifications demanded by the international regulatory bodies for gum arabic for food and pharmaceutical applications. The gum exudate from Dichrostachys cinerea meets some specifications (moisture content, solubility, insoluble matter and ash) demanded for the identity and purity of gum arabic as stipulated by the international regulatory bodies. The aqueous solution of the gum possesses solubility and viscosity similar to commercial gum arabic. Similarly, the properties of Sterculia quinqueloba gum meet a number of the specifications demanded for gum karaya, except that it contains high levels of tannin which would limit its usefulness in food and pharmaceutical applications. We investigated spatial and temporal migration of the Solimões, the Japurá, and the Aranapu River channels in western Brazilian Amazonia with Landsat TM imagery over a 21-year period. Additionally, we classified and monitored how channel migrations affect the distribution of pioneer vegetation and old-growth forest. The cloud-free study area was 153,032 ha — open water plus 3 km inland on each margin. The channel migration rates, expressed as percent dislocation of the open water body of the river year− 1, were lowest in the Japurá River (1.2%), and highest in the Aranapu channel (2.5%), the point bars at river confluence being the most affected landforms subject to geomorphic changes. Annual rates of lateral erosion and accretion of vegetated land along the three rivers were well-balanced. They averaged 0.79 and 0.83% of the cloud-free channel area over the 21 years. The Solimões River was more dynamic than the Japurá River, which can be traced to higher water discharge and sediment load. During the 21 years, the area covered by pioneer vegetation increased by 5.8% of the study area, while late-succession areas decreased by a similar amount (5.5%). According to local biomass estimates of the different vegetation types, these values suggest that C-releases by alluvial erosion would be much higher than C-sequestration caused by the creation of areas suitable for colonization by pioneer vegetation at our study site. 相似文献
