Five commercial structural adhesives were tested using the thick adherend shear test (TAST). These adhesives have mechanical properties ranging from those of high-strength, heat-cured epoxies to ductile, acrylic-based materials. Consideration was given to the adherend selection and dimensions to approach a uniform shear stress-strain in the bonded area, so that the test could be used with both stiff and flexible adhesives. Comparison of the TAST results was also made with those obtained using the butt torsion test. The TAST extensometry has been shown to be suitable for measuring the shear strain properties of the adhesives tested without modification. From the shear behavior of the five adhesives measured using the TAST method, and from the results presented in this paper, it can be seen that the TAST method is repeatable and reproducible for a wide range of adhesive types and adhesive properties. From these results, it is possible to generate comprehensive adhesive shear data. Also, the curves from the butt torsion test and the TAST were found to be consistent and give the same behavior of the adhesives tested.  相似文献

An aqueous surfactant-based extraction system was developed for the extraction of corn oil from corn germ with anionic extended surfactants. The surfactants used in this study were sodium linear-alkyl polypropoxylated polyethoxylated sulfates (C12,14–P10–E2–SO4Na and C10–P18–E2–SO4Na). Interfacial tension, critical microemulsion concentration (CμC), and optimum salinity values of the extended surfactants with corn oil were determined. In the extraction process, the ground corn germ was shaken with predetermined surfactant and salt concentrations at room temperature for 45 min. About 83%, the sum of total free oil and total oil-in-water emulsion, of the corn oil was extracted from the corn germ using a formulation of 0.4% C12,14–P10–E2–SO4Na and 1% NaCl. A solid/liquid ratio of 1/10 performed best for efficient oil recovery. The chemical compositions of the extracted corn oils were found to be similar to that of hexane extracted corn oil.  相似文献

The plane elasticity problem of two perfectly bonded orthotropic layers containing cracks perpendicular to and along the interface is considered. Cracks are extended to intersect the boundaries and each other in such a way that a crack configuration suitable to study the T-shaped crack problem is obtained. The problem is reduced to the solution of a system of singular integral equations with Cauchy type singularities. Numerical results for stress intensity factors and energy release rates are presented for various loading conditions and for isotropic as well as orthotropic material pairs. These results indicate that elementary strength of material type calculations for energy release rates provide a good approximation to the actual elasticity solution even for relatively short cracks, as long as the layer thicknesses are not very different.  相似文献

The dynamic properties of a structural tape used for adhesive bonding applications have been measured at different temperatures to determine its glass transition temperature and damping properties. For this purpose, free layer beams consisting of a base layer steel and the tape layer were vibrated using a resonant beam technique with free-free end conditions. To measure the dynamic values (elastic modulus and loss factor) of the tape, the necessary equations were derived and the frequency dependence of the beams was investigated from –55°C to +60°C. Three beams with different layers were tested. Results have shown that as the temperature increases, the elastic modulus of the tape decreases, while the loss factor of the tape increases up to 20°C and then decreases to a constant level. The results from the three beams are in agreement, showing that the glass transition temperature of the tape is about 20°C, which implies viscoelastic properties at room temperature.  相似文献

The shear stress-strain behaviour of two low-modulus structural adhesives has been measured using the butt-torsion test. The Nadai correction for non-linear shear behaviour is explained as it is necessary to understand how this correction can be applied to butt joints. The results for one adhesive were accurately used to predict the strength of a lap joint, and it was shown that the strength of such a joint can approach that of a conventional, modern, structural epoxy. Structural adhesives are usually reckoned to be those with a high strength (50 MPa and upwards) and (these days), a strain to failure of at least 10% in tension, and which usually have a tensile modulus of 2 GPa or so. However, adhesives which are significantly less stiff, less strong, but much more ductile are entering the 'structural' arena. In order to evaluate their effectiveness and use in design, it is necessary to be able to measure accurately their stress-strain behaviour. In this paper, the axisymmetric elasticity problem of an infinitely long transversely isotropic solid cylinder imbedded in a transversely isotropic medium is considered. The cylinder contains an annular or a penny shaped crack subjected to uniform pressure on its surfaces. It is assumed that the cylinder is perfectly bonded to the medium. A singular integral equation of the first kind (whose unknown is the derivative of crack surface displacement) is derived by using Fourier and Hankel transforms. By performing an asymptotic analysis of the Fredholm kernel, the generalized Cauchy kernel associated with the case of `crack terminating at the interface' is derived. The stress singularity associated with this case is obtained. The singular integral equation is solved numerically for sample cases. Stress intensity factors are given for various crack geometries (internal annular and penny-shaped cracks, annular cracks and penny-shaped cracks terminating at the interface) for sample material pairs.  相似文献

The improvement of cancer chemotherapy remains a major challenge, and thus new drugs are urgently required to develop new treatment regimes. Curcumin, a polyphenolic antioxidant derived from the rhizome of turmeric (Curcuma longa L.), has undergone extensive preclinical investigations and, thereby, displayed remarkable efficacy in vitro and in vivo against cancer and other disorders. However, pharmacological limitations of curcumin stimulated the synthesis of numerous novel curcumin analogs, which need to be evaluated for their therapeutic potential. In the present study, we calculated the binding affinities of 50 curcumin derivatives to known cancer-related target proteins of curcumin, i.e., epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and nuclear factor κB (NF-κB) by using a molecular docking approach. The binding energies for EGFR were in a range of −12.12 (±0.21) to −7.34 (±0.07) kcal/mol and those for NF-κB ranged from −12.97 (±0.47) to −6.24 (±0.06) kcal/mol, indicating similar binding affinities of the curcumin compounds for both target proteins. The predicted receptor-ligand binding constants for EGFR and curcumin derivatives were in a range of 0.00013 (±0.00006) to 3.45 (±0.10) µM and for NF-κB in a range of 0.0004 (±0.0003) to 10.05 (±4.03) µM, indicating that the receptor-ligand binding was more stable for EGFR than for NF-κB. Twenty out of 50 curcumin compounds showed binding energies to NF-κB smaller than −10 kcal/mol, while curcumin as a lead compound revealed free binding energies of >−10 kcal/mol. Comparable data were obtained for EGFR: 15 out of 50 curcumin compounds were bound to EGFR with free binding energies of <−10 kcal/mol, while the binding affinity of curcumin itself was >−10 kcal/mol. This indicates that the derivatization of curcumin may indeed be a promising strategy to improve targe specificity and to obtain more effective anticancer drug candidates. The in silico results have been exemplarily validated using microscale thermophoresis. The bioactivity has been further investigated by using resazurin cell viability assay, lactate dehydrogenase assay, flow cytometric measurement of reactive oxygen species, and annexin V/propidium iodide assay. In conclusion, molecular docking represents a valuable approach to facilitate and speed up the identification of novel targeted curcumin-based drugs to treat cancer.  相似文献

The geomechanical properties of the metacrystalline rock masses vary due to alteration. The Devonian aged Yedigoller formation crops out in the Asarsuyu valley (Bolu, Turkey). The aim of this study is to investigate the alteration degree of the amphibolite and metagranodiorites based on their geomechanical and petrographical properties. The P-wave velocity is 1,613–5,588 m/s and the unconfined compressive strength varies between 12.75 and 99.86 MPa. Several weathering products occurred due to carbonisation, oxidation and sericitation. These rocks, subjected to hydrothermal effects, are classified as “fresh” to “completely altered” according to the unified alteration index (UAI). In addition, the values of the loss on ignition, modified weathering potential index and chemical index of alteration were taken into account for supporting the alteration process. Since the main process is hydrothermal alteration, the rocks which were exposed to alteration are weathered on the slopes after excavation. Weathering classification and the chemical indices indicate this process. Thus, UAI is concluded to be more suitable and credible in order to evaluate the hydrothermal alteration process of such crystalline rocks numerically.  相似文献
